Celebrating Small Steps for a Shaky Soldier

The past decade has been filled with immense chaos on so many fronts. Political turbulence, the surge of social media, and the erosion of traditional family values left me feeling alone and isolated. For so long, all I knew was to bunker down and hope it would pass. Each time I timidly ventured back out to reconnect, I was met with a cacophony of noise, distractions, false insults, and hollow praise—no helmet or thick skin felt strong enough. Psychologists try to help, but they face their own constraints. Then, reluctantly, I downloaded Fabulous. I expected a barrage of trite motivational quotes and hype music, reminiscent of Rocky heading back to the ring. I dreaded this. I didn’t want to fight again; the world has enough conflict. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. I read a calming passage, and my only task was—wait for it—to drink a single glass of water when I woke up the next day. I laughed, truly. For the first time in years. From the depths of my soul, I laughed. I finally realized that the chaotic ricochet of life’s distractions were like rubber bullets—and I already had thick skin. Earning a certificate for drinking a glass of water two days in a row might seem silly, but it’s working. It’s still early days, and these are small, shaky steps for this little soldier, but I’ve drunk my water and brushed my hair. Finally. Fixed? Not by a long shot. Fabulous? I’m certainly feeling so—for now, at least!

I keep coming back

So many times I have tried to conquer the first mountain, but this time is different because I took a break to try it all on my own. I put in the effort and research to learn what works for me by juggling apps and spreadsheets. But the answer was right here all along, waiting for ME to be ready. OCD would not allow me to just do someone’s else’s program, and ADHD made it hard to stick to any routine on my own. This just works. I press play, and its like a Pavlovian response. I had to figure out first on my own what I wanted, then add it to the routines. These were all things I had been tracking and struggling to do, and this just guides me through what I have chosen so that I follow through. The focus aspect for ADHD (and even PTSD) cannot be overstated. The calming ambient music, the full screen tasks, the simple check marks to move on to the next one and the satisfying noises they make allow me to calmly be in the moment. If I am distracted, the music is still playing. The task remains on my screen. I don’t forget! My two cents for anyone starting this app for the first time is to take it slowly, actually follow the program. If you’re OCD like me and already have fifteen tasks you do every morning, just add them and follow your own path. Its finally working for me not only because I am ready, but because its SIMPLE. It replaces a few apps for me and, again, the focus aspect cannot be overstated. It just immerses you in the moment.

Life changing

I start using the app a few years ago and it helped me change my mindset and the way i treat stressful situations.I always recommend it to friends and family members because i really believe is a great app to have. Learned a few interesting facts, learned a lot about balancing and what a healthy lifestyle means. The app gives you tons of options to choose from when building your routine, you can add, remove or create new habits and take part in different challenges. And you can track your own journey which is great (especially if you are competitive with yourself)! I went through periods when i used it daily and periods when i only used it once a week or less, but the periods when i dedicated myself to using the app the most, helped me change my mindset, helped me manage stress and difficulties easier and i believe i have a calmer and more positive approach now to everything in my life because of it and i somehow find myself going back to the app when things to south because i know it gives me structure,a routine and time for selfcare and i love it.

Scam - Stay Away

This app is a total con. After paying $1 for a free trial and realising that the extent of the program was “put a glass of water on your bedside table”, which most functional adults already do, I deleted my account. Since I never ticked the “auto-renew past trial” option upon sign-up, I never bothered to check my subscription to ensure it was cancelled when deleting my account (which you would assume is a given when completely deactivating an account).

Not only did the app the proceed to attempt to charge me for this waste of an app, Fabulous had also subscribed me to a membership to Clarify, an app I’ve never downloaded in my life.

The way this app operates completely counters App Store policy and it’s beyond me that Apple allows this scam to be available on the App Store. I’ve already contacted “customer support” and am yet to receive a response after several days. Everyone who works on this app should be embarrassed to have anything to do with this sham.

It's unfortunate to hear that the experience with the app didn't meet expectations. Each app is designed with specific content and development needs, which is why separate subscriptions are necessary. For any concerns regarding subscriptions or charges, detailed information can be found at help.thefabulous.co. The Fabulous Member Care team.

Fabulous indeed!

I was seeking an app to help me stay on schedule. As an entrepreneur with ADHD it is often very challenging. From going to bed at a reasonable hour, each night, to waking up at a reasonable hour, to having balanced structured meals that are healthy, to have my spiritual time, exercise time, and just me time. I also needed to find time to do service, which helps me get out of myself by helping others. I’ve never had a structured schedule, my whole entire life and I’m 55 years old when I started the section on evening routine and I was about to type in the fourth change that I wanted to make the app actually would not let me, I loved that it said we never want to take on more than we should. I’ve only been using for less than a week and I can tell you I’m going to bed now. Two hours earlier. I am making it to the office earlier. I am doing better with the morning routine but I still have a long way to go. I actually stopped working. Looked at the app clicked it and that is something different. One of the best things this App has suggested to me was on my iPhone pro 14 max to take any interesting and fun apps off of the homepage. It’s worked. It literally works I just keepspiritual thing on there, my daily calendar, reminders list or to do list. I have a long way to go with this app is reminded me is that there is absolutely no rush. I will appreciate life more by doing certain things less get the app and pay for it. Well worth it.

No customer support to cancel subscription

EDIT
Customer service did eventually come through with the requested cancellation and refund, and pointed me towards the customer support page. Still, I feel they could have made the subscription management more prominent, and enabled users to unsubscribe in one click.
***************
I tried to follow the directions to cancel my subscription but couldn’t find out how. I contacted customer services who still haven’t gotten back to me for several days, apart from a holding email saying they have a large backlog of messages to work though. In the meantime they have taken 2 payments! For an app that is marketed to be helpful to folks with ADHD, they should make it easy to cancel the subscription in once click. They also say it’s simple to manage or cancel your subscription before you sign up, but once you sign up it’s confusing and no timely customer support. Very disappointed and stressed by this experience.

SCAM. They will subscribe you to two apps without your knowledge

I subscribed to fabulous as I wanted to be more motivated and committed to my daily tasks and routine. I downloaded the app and a week in a realised it just wasn’t the app for me so I canceled the subscription in time for the week free trail. A month goes by and I completely forget about the app altogether until a $52 charge comes out of my account from Fabulous. I re-download the app to check that I had canceled, which I had in fact. But it turns out they had subscribed me to a second app that I had never downloaded at all and it took my money without my knowledge! I have tried emailing the company 4 times now in the past 3 weeks and still haven’t had a response. Super shady and unfair for users being promised a life changing app. Just added more stress to my life. Do not trust this app

Great, but there’s just a couple things that I would change

Great app, really enjoy it. Has changed the way I do things.

One thing that maybe a concern: there’s a feature au quite like that I don’t use. It’s the Fabulous Moment, where the timer ticks down for your list while playing music. Why don’t I use it? It makes my phone really hot and drains my battery. Not a huge problem at the moment, but so don’t understand why it drains so much power or makes my phone so hot.

Also, I’d like to have a freedom about where activities from my Journey can go, which routine they go in. I do my exercise later on in the day, and I’m not going to move it to the morning, for example. Although I would really prefer not to have an afternoon routine at all, and replace it with a really long morning routine, but I can’t delete it. Is there done behavioural science in the way?

Slow and steady wins the race!

I think this app is incredibly practical. It doesn’t allow you to plot head first into a multitude of new habits, but instead helps you to focus on one at a time. My brain needs this approach, as I too often go head first and take on too much change, resulting in failure. I’m living my nightly coaching, as it’s stopped me scrolling my phone. It also puts me in a really positive headspace for sleep. So far, this app really works for me.

Love the research quotes

I'm impressed with the concept and the intention of this app (at least, with what I perceive them to be), so that counts for a lot of stars. I'm on, like, day 4 of having the app. However, I find the app itself to be somewhat frustrating. For example, the iPhone version of the app makes it pretty hard to log in by visually obscuring the place to enter your pw, for the sake of making the screen pretty, and by making the phone think the pw field is for email, which makes it totally inconvenient to log in with the 1Password password manager. Another example: The iPhone app and iPad app, logged in with the same hard-fought credentials, don't know anything about each other. I might as well be 2 different people. For the number of devices I have, thinking of wealth distribution, maybe I should be even more different people. But this thing isn't free. It's not even what I would consider cheap, soooo .... I expect seamless integration across devices. The first lessons mention taking small steps and going slow to build new habits, but the interface itself is not structured like that. It offers a whole candy store of more tips, some to read, some to hear. I feel like this app got started by scientists, but captured by marketers who revised the plot. Maybe future releases will make it more intuitive and on track.
