Bugs galore, and somehow worse than the free AoS?
Gave the dumb $3 subscription a try for the builder (you have to swipe right to see the subscription for just the app, not the more expensive Warhammer+) and wow. For something they’re charging for, unacceptable. There are bugs in the point calculation (create detachment, add something to it, delete detachment, points don’t update), there’s an annoying welcome screen EVERY TIME the app is launched from cold, creating armies for Combat Patrol doesn’t even work right with no option to go by power levels that I can find, and even worse no in-app functionality to report these issues or bugs.
I’m not sure how, but the completely free AoS app works significantly better, including its army builder. I fear though it’ll only somehow get worse if they did start charging for it (not that our $50+ books should be enough to pay for it, though…).

Counter intuitive and broken - start again GW
The app can’t add up, it’s badly designed in that it tells your in large what army you’ve got but gives you hardly any space to see the units. It’s easier to find the error/updates log than it is your character sheet. When you add a unit to your army sometimes it doesn’t add it. It doesn’t add up the points correctly and doesn’t change round the weapons for the whole squad where the rules don’t allow for different load outs within a squad. It’s really hard to use actually. Would prefer a free excel spreadsheet tbh. Go back to basics GW, and design from the user perspective - seems you’ve put more energy into locking info you get in a codex than creating something that helps play the already complex game. And you wonder why everyone uses BattleScribe 🤔
Make the codex rules free. I’d still buy them for the lore!!! And for crying out loud let Eldar players build the new autarch on the front of the codex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another reason to use BattleScribe … it allows for legends!

Definitely not worth it
GW rakes in enough money to have a functioning app - the only reason they don’t is because they are more interested in money over enjoyment or functionality. Such shame the free versions from smaller companies show this app up. I will definitely be cancelling my subscription here and spending my money elsewhere. Get it together GW

Lack of Tablet Support and Bugs Linger On for Years
For an app that requires a subscription to use in any form, along with paid purchases outside of it to unlock content in the form of books, this app does very little. There are bugs that have been in place since books dropped that have not been fixed, and no way to actually submit feedback or bugs for them. Case in point, you cannot build a valid Orks list because of a bug with the Troops choice for Boyz, and it’s been like that since their book release a year ago.
The support on iOS is laughable compared to other platforms, and there is no iPad support at all. Given how often tablets are used at the tabletop, the app simply delivers no value for the high price they demand for it.

Great Start
This app has a great foundation. The functionality is good and it has gotten better over time. There are still some bugs. The data is also not as up to date as it should be. In my opinion the app should be updated the day a codex, dataslate or chapter approved drops. This should be the main source of information as opposed to a secondary. I don’t think they would, but if I could just get each of the codexes unlock for a fee. They would end up making more. Overall it makes looking up data sheets very quick if you own the codex. Keep the good features and updates coming.

Very poor UI and the UX not very good either.
There are some good aspects. Firstly the fact it is very quick to look up a specific rule if you know the name of it. But if you want to browse it’s a very plain black and white page of endless text. When you unlock the codexes you have purchased, they don’t show at the top, nor are there any different graphics or colours to quickly find your codex, you have to scroll through endless identical white and black text options until you find the one you want.
Trying to make an army list is also a bad experience, when I try to change my aggressors loadout, the whole app crashes. On top of that, several equipment options are missing. BattleScribe and wahpedia are miles ahead of this app in terms of user experience and user interface.

It’s still not good
After having tried this app when it first released I gave up on it and decided to come back when it came with warhammer + still doesn’t work. Unit entries that are missing options. Still Crashes and Bugs. For a not inexpensive addition to what’s becoming an ever more expensive hobby I’d settle for pen and paper over This dumpster fire. Luckily there’s a free app that does what this app apparently tries to do

Has potential
Thus could eventually be great but paying money monthly for a list builder that doesn’t even calculate points correctly is a sham. Wait for them to work the kinks out before investing because currently you can make illegal lists and it will stay legal (for example you can take a 5 unit Sisters squad and give them all heavy weapons and the app thinks it’s fine) also when you add up the points the app is wrong BUT if you back out and look at the points from the other screen they’ll be correct but as soon as you go back into the list they’re wrong again. Really needs an overhaul.

Sadly, not great
I really want this app to be successful because I’m not interested in carrying a bunch of books around with me to play a game. I love codex’s for their lore and art, but I would love it if these aspects of the hobby became digital. Unfortunately though this app has been a work in progress for a while now and it is really unintuitive in its design. Updates have a habit of messing things up and it’s generally not a useful tool compared to the free options out there. This isn’t news, but the rules are still behind further pay walls, I had hoped when I initially heard about the app way-back-when that the monthly subscription service would give access to the lore and rules of the codex. But you also need to purchase the codex’s and as we progress in this edition more rules are becoming unavailable. I’m not bothered by the cost going up if the service improves to match it, but right now it doesn’t.
As I said, it’s a work in progress and I don’t doubt it will get better, but the app in its current form isn’t great. I’m sure the app development team have a lot on their plate so I wish them the best in getting app where they want it to be.
