  • Great Update

This app is great and has been a huge help with my learning. One thing that’s be a huge help is when constructing a word if it’s wrong you don’t get to see the correct answer before moving on. Just an idea.

Please keep up the great work. It’s a shame you don’t have a kanji section or app as I think your app style would make it easier to learn than other apps.

    Developer Response

Thank for your super nice feedback! Would love to learn more about your suggestion regarding "One thing that’s be a huge help is when constructing a word if it’s wrong you don’t get to see the correct answer before moving on." Feel free to email me in-app more with more details about it. Kanji - I'm currently writing a sister app that has Kanji practices. Hopefully I can push it out before you master everything :P
  • Dark Mode!

This app is absolutely amazing, even free. You should definitely add a Dark Mode!! ^_^
  • Amazing App

Lovely app, only get an ad after 5 mistakes which adds to the challenge instead of frustrating you, plus I really appreciate this app so I’m glad the developer hopefully gets something back. Learning hiragana very quickly.

Only thing I’d like the see added is the dakuten versions of the hiragana (I think that’s what they’re called, apologise if not I’m still very new). They might already be available in the app but I haven’t found them yet.

  • Lovely

Great to help memorize hiragana and katakana & gives options to make lessons a little harder too. Though I do wish they added dakuten it’s still amazing!
  • The best

This is one of the best apps I’ve used for learning hiragana and katakana characters!
  • Great!

I was looking for some Japanese apps to help me learn, and this has by far been the most helpful one that I’ve come across, it’s definitely amazing! It mixes up the different hiragana that your learning to keep your memory fresh instead of routined. I’ve just completed my Hiragana and I don’t think I could have done it as quickly as with this app. There has been no issues, glitches or bugs! It’s great!

  • Kana drill

Very helpful in learning hiragana. Thanks.
  • Excellent

Perfect for what it is, learning kana. There’s both hiragana and katakana, which is to be expected, but I couldn’t find any explanation of the dakuten/handakuten marks, which would be helpful for new learners. There’s a few vocab terms to learn associated with each sound, and it would be nice to be able to toggle the kanji for them, but I get that it’s not the point of the app so I understand why it was omitted.

Ads are pretty genius - you get the whole thing for free, and as long as you don’t mess up on the drills you never see an ad. But if you mess up 5 times you get a - brief/skippable - “punishment” ad. So you only have yourself to blame. This is approach is novel and appreciated, and encourages you to actually pay attention, as there are consequences for mistakes.

Simple but perfect for what it’s doing.

  • Excellent app for Katakana and Hiragana

Really nice interface, you progressively unlock rows of hiragana / katakana so you progress through the levels in a way that’s not too overwhelming.

Once you’ve unlocked them all it’s also a very useful app for quickly referencing ones you may not quite fully remember.

You can choose how many questions you get given per round in the settings which I appreciate, you can have short lessons or make them longer if you feel like putting in more time.

The app runs very smoothly. I also appreciate the clean look and the distinct lack of adverts - however if you get more than 5 answers wrong in a row you have to watch a (very short) advert, but I found this useful in the beginning as it forces you to actually pay attention to what you’re doing rather than just smashing out the levels.

Overall very useful app and it has been an essential app for me to use along side my other studies.

    Thanks

  • すばらしいのよ!

I learned my kana loooong ago, but I’ve been away from them for years, and I just needed a way to refresh and drill them. This helped me do exactly that. I like that it incorporates written prompts in both English and Japanese as well as audio prompts. It also includes some basic vocabulary words to get you reading groups of characters at once, which I think is highly useful. And with the way this app is set up, you can really drill yourself with a focus on recognition speed.

Like other reviews have pointed out, you don’t get constantly interrupted by ads. I think this app is great both for people like me who just need a refresher and for people who are just starting out. It’s like having flash cards without actually having to carry around a bunch of index cards - it’s all conveniently on your phone!

    10/10, would recommend.
