  • Like-able, but money pit!

Overall, I really do like the game. The design and style are great! Enjoyable and fun, but I do have some gripes/desires about the game.
I wish the base island was a little more complex and allowed for a little base building. Still the combat is fundamentally good, but it’s happened a lot where the proper color tiles just wouldn’t come. It got to the point that it seemed less law of averages and more intentional gameplay.
Also, the combat arena needs to be tweaked so as to allow more even match ups. More often than not I’m paired with someone way higher in level. Rarely, someone way below.
The game needs better ways to level up. The way it is designed gets more pay to win. To top it off, in game purchases are the some of the most expensive I’ve seen in games. It is ridiculous!!!!!! In addition, the percent of chance you have of getting higher class dragon, both from purchase and breeding, are insanely low. As for the purchases, it is robbery!!! I’m so sick of pay to play/win games! I really hoped this game would break the sad, modern trend!

  • AMAZING!!! Just some suggestions...

This game is absolutely amazing and it’s so addicting! I would just change one or two things about it. First of all, can you add the Night-Lights? They would be really cool! And could you possibly make them be able to age up to adults? You’ve made other dragons that don’t even exist in the How To Train Your Dragons movies or anything, so I think you could make the Night-Lights just start them out as babies and then age them up. I also agree with other players that the battles in the Arena, aren’t fairly matched. It would also be great if you fixed this one glitch. Sometimes when I’m in a battle, and I get through a wave, the screen freezes up. The dragons are still moving, but I can’t make any moves. And then I have to quit! So, it would be great if you fixed that. Thank you for reading this, and have a great day!

  • Arena Problems

I paid 200 runes this morning to avoid attack in the arena and when I just went to battle a turn or two my game said “network error” and when it connected, my entire game was lost (I was on level 20, almost 21) and I am back to zero. Pretty bummed as I spent a lot of time on it in the last week. Don’t think I’ll be starting over after all of that.

**Edited to add that when I reloaded the game, it gave me an option to choose between Game ID’s, which includes my original one! So all was recovered. (I use my Apple ID not Facebook or anything else!)

My husband and four year old daughter and I all play and love this game - we each have our own accounts. My main complaint has to do with the arena- and when I am starting to get close to making progress with my trophy points, suddenly there are only teams that are 10-20,000 points above me and if I pay runes to protect my team from attack, it’s like the game is rigged to know that I am close to getting more tokens/points/rubies and actively starts preventing my forward progress even though I have paid (with runes) to get a little head start. And then any progress I make is really negated unless I keep paying runes. Not sure if that makes sense but it definitely is consistent - each time I have spent runes on protecting my team from attack, I end up meeting only stacked teams that I can’t beat.

Over all, we love this game and it’s intricacies.

  • Good game but a few ideas.

Ok I personal love this game the animations/models are pretty natural for each dragon in game etc. here are my ideas for the game. 1st the alpha battles with the bewilderbeast screaming death and the green death are a bit harder to defeat and also the timer makes a bit more of challenge perhaps if it were like longer up to 40 sec than 20 sec it’ll give the players some time to take down the alpha at least in my opinion. 2nd I think toothless and light fury should be trained like Fanghook for example so that way the other dragons that can only be trained with trust Points could be trained easily. 3rd in game it would be great if we could trade like press a button of some sort and use coins to exchange for that specific item. Ok those are my ideas that I’ve got if the developers are reading this review I would like to at least have a response have a nice day and also perhaps you could allow us players to train the bewilderbeast p.s sorry this was a little long😅

  • Horrible HTTYD game/Bad puzzle game

I love puzzles and love HTTYD. Played this for 2 - 3 months and am frustrated to the point of deletion. Error in the middle of heated battle in the arena with error stating, “you have been inactive for too long”. What!?! Oh yeah! I was on the verge of winning 10 streaks in a row so we gotta make you lose one battle by throwing in an error. No I will not spend hard earned ruins to keep my streak because I’ll go do a quest while I’m out of energy, come back to the arena, and my win streak will still be gone. Now win streak gone and minus 350 ruins. Oh and freezing in the middle of battles, forced to exit the game, relaunch it, and guess what?! Win streak automatically gone. Contacted support, oh we can only give you 10 energy. If this game cannot keep up with the bandwidth, then get rid of some stuff to make it smoother. This is the most unstable puzzle game ever made. Very money hungry too! Deals for chests with chances to get dragons that is so slim. What’s the point? So disappointed that it had to be HTTYD. SMH.... Rise of Berk is also money hungry. Ludia spend more time making more movies and TV series that we rave instead of these games that disappoints us, the fans of HTTYD.

  • Won’t let me update

I have now been without access to this game for 24 hours. Not a big deal as far as I have other games to play, but if you want a good review, the game should at least open. I am an IOS user and every time I tried to open the game last night it said that there was maintenance being performed. Today, it has been there is a new version to download, but then it won’t let me update the game and puts me in the never ending circle of trying to update and not being able to do so. I mean. I guess it’s too much to ask for a decent game when you are paying for a monthly subscription (insert sarcasm here). Looks like I will be deleting this app and canceling my subscription. It’s too bad, cause I really used to like this game.

UPDATE- Changing my review from a one star to a three. Finally was able to update. Yes, I had more than enough internal memory to do so. Game is still glitchy, but I like the dragons. Probably won’t keep paying the subscription, but will keep the game unless future updates do not help the glitchy problems.

  • I do love the game but....

This game is amazing honestly. It’s my favorite game on my phone. However I do have one issue (even though personal) that I don’t understand. Why is it that toothless and the lightfury can not breed? With a game that embraces cross breeding the way it does I was expecting the two furys to be able to breed like they had in the movie and was extremely excited to get one of the night lights on my team. I do understand that they are still babies at the end of the series but couldn’t you make adult models for them for the game? I don’t see why not. They are the only two that have CANNON-LY cross bred. Like I said this is a personal thing but I really don’t see why it hasn’t been added unless you’re saving them for future updates or something. I’d love to hear back from the team as to why they haven’t been they haven’t been added yet.

Truthfully other than that personal issue I see nothing wrong with the game and find it extremely fun and addictive.

  • Frustrated

I love the game and so does my husband but it is frustrating. We both joined FC when it was released as it is the only way to get Skullcrusher and we like the added benefits. We also manage to get duplicates for the event dragons, most recently we worked hard and yes spent a little extra cash for ruins and got all 3 Deadfall Toothless dragons. We have 2 major issues with the game, 1 it’s ridiculously hard to get and keep enough of the 1* scales. You need them to hatch eggs to level up your dragons and you need them to train dragons. I’m sure if the Devs would offer them for sale like they do the ruins there’d be players who’d buy them, or offer more quests to earn them. And issue 2, breeding is a joke. When you can breed for a month or more trying to get a duplicate without success it gets frustrating. Maybe upping the success percentage a point or two would be something the Devs would consider. I have like 8 dragons waiting either on a duplicate or on scales or both in some cases and all but one has been waiting for a long time! But if not for the scales and breeding issues I’d give it a 5* review.

  • The only game I ever spend money on

I don’t normally get so sucked into a game that I spend money on it, but this one is different. I absolutely love the game play and collecting all the different dragons. The Pokemon lover in me is dying to collect all the dragons! I have been a player of the game from the very beginning and they have been working out bugs and improving things all the time. With the new added features of the clan fighting the Global Alpha and the new Thawfest Arena games, where you get to battle other players, it has only gotten even better! Sometimes the levels number doesn’t necessarily match up with the difficulty, sometimes the challenge is nice and sometimes its a little too tough. It may seem difficult to get the legendary dragons, but if you play enough of the events it is pretty easy to get them over some time. Overall I think it’s an incredible game and one that I play daily!

  • Pay to win

This game is a definite pay to win game. After playing for a few months I quit, then came back and quit after a week, then I came back when they added the arena and clans alpha battles.
I have a nice team of dragons, all level 30 and higher but I have stagnated on the main quest line. Quite frankly this is because you can’t make enough gold to level up a single dragon in a whole week of free play. You will get bored, which is why I left. It’s a pay to win environment, but hey, the dragons are pretty cool looking. They spam you with packages you can buy when you open the game, and send you mail that opens to something that wants your money. Pretty pathetic. That desperate for money that they have more spam then my email.

The arena doesn’t really add anything to the game since everyone’s defense team has its star doubled. This means you Can Not win unless you have very strong dragons. You get stuck on the first tier, even after playing for months, it doesn’t make sense. Every activity in a game should be open after a short while for beginners, not just the highest elite.
