  • Good game

Nothing wrong with the game but the price is about 6 times what it should be. $10 would be fine, $20 would even be reasonable if twice what other games cost. To be honest I was actually thinking of buying it for $30, I am a bit of a Civ fan having played all of them from the first so I feel sure I would get my money’s worth (and props for the demo that let’s me feel sure of that).

But $60, sixty bucks! This is not commercial software. Yes, it is a normal price for a PC game but on iPads $10 is about the max. Yes many go with buying in game content and I do prefer to pay less up front but that means 20 or 30 could work, not 60. At least throw in some expansions if you have to go with that price. I would really like to play this game but it is just badly overpriced at the moment.

Update after dev reply. Guess $60 was too high hehe. I still think $20 would likely be an optimal price level for you. There are none of the overheads involved with selling the PC version (box, cds, manual, posters, profit margin for stores etc) so all the income becomes essentially profit. Regardless I have taken the bait and forked out $30. Since I got my money’s worth out of all the previous Civ games, I am sure I will with this version too!

  • Mixed feelings

Civ will always be a favourite game of mine, but civ 6 elevates tech and a classic game to a weird new level, where I hope updates will provide a user friendly experience, the current layout honestly confuses me, I understand the basics, but traditional actions, are more complicated, greyed out, if there's a city issue, it's great getting the notification, but a pop up with easy to click actions to relieve city issues would be helpful.
I partly was expecting what's advertised with the PC version, other countries (like Australia) and the option to diversify genders of other great nations. I would love scenario where the game is based on a premise of peace, and the ideals humanity is currently lacking, it would be great when s battle takes place, we get zoomed in to see the battle unfold, or even when clicking on a city, we get to see it operating as a city with units currently fortified in the city. Please developers consider an update with full featured and some tweaks. ✌🏻

We hope you' ll hop into 1.0.6. This version addresses a LOT of your feedback. We've made some visual tweaks, added all Civilization and Scenario Packs, and optimized for newer iPhones like the XS/XR/X Thanks for writing this review. It helped us lead our developers in the right direction to make a better game.
  • As good as the desktop

As far as I can tell this is pretty much the full Civ 6 base game. Amazingly good port, I’m surprised at how well it works on the iPad. Smaller screen but not much of an issue with pinch and zoom. Basically the full desktop version with some modifications to make windows work better in the form factor. Surprising to see niceties such as key shortcuts (if you use a keyboard with it) and even DLC mods!

Civ can be a mouse heavy game if you let it, but here it’s not an issue with the touch screen and the port. I do use the minimap more than I do on the desktop because it’s so easy to touch and pan. Some trimming has occurred, such as leader animations and I’m not sure what else (not much as far as I can tell). But no loss, it’s the same game essentially.

Overall worth every penny I think, Civ is a classical pinnacle game and to have this level of play in this format is worth the price of admission, giving hours of game after wonderful game play. I’ve wanted to play at night but didn’t want a laptop or desktop, this fits the bill perfectly. The only thing I can hope for is to see Rise and Fall and other DLC ported to the iPad, completing the port.

  • Great game, good port, price gouging.

First two points for the creators.
    1. Can you please release the DLC which includes Australia as a playable nation? That’s half the reason I upgraded from V to VI.
    2. Your FAQs say that US$40 is roughly the price for the full game. Why then did I have to pay AU$80? The AU$ is NOT half the US value. We are paying an Australia tax here and I’m really unimpressed by it. You lost a star rating for that - price gouging is not cool.

    To the rest.
The game is a pretty much complete port of the PC version. It plays really well, the only time I’ve experienced real lag issues is in the late game with 7 or more civs still active. Given the age of my pc, I don’t really notice a big difference between late game Civ 6 on iPad and late game civ 5 on pc, so its not s big deal for me.
The game itself is terrific, lots of new features, great graphics, great playable civs, fairly good AI.

All in all, its tops. If you like Civ at all, you’ll like this, it is the full thing. Only gripes are the lag in the endgame and the fact that Aus is not yet in the game. And obviously the price. I’d wait for a special. I’m happy to pay AAA prices for a AAA title. I’m not happy to have to pay more than America simply because I’m living in a different country. Sort that out or I’ll be chatting to fair trade.

  • Perfect Game to Port For IPad

I was very skeptical about this release, especially after the “revolution” attempts. I was expecting a watered down experience from the PC game. However the only difference in this IPad version and the PC/MAC version is quality of graphics. Seriously, that’s it. Every feature is identical. And you will quickly come to have blinders on to this singular defect as you delve into games intricacies. Now there is a downside to the game that is simply the fault of the device you’re playing it on. The technical limitations of my IPad Pro compared to my heavily modded PC does show in games with Standard map size, 7+ other civilizations, and an assortment of City-States. I found the game to get bogged down in the time waiting between turns with those aforementioned settings by turn 200. While I would love to play on the Earth map, it simply isn’t worth waiting 5-10 minutes per turn in the end game. I found that Tiny map, 3 AI players, and no city states are the settings in which the game can be enjoyed to the fullest. Also, the game has support for mods, as seen in the menu, but I have yet to find a way to actually get them on the IPad. I’m also eagerly awaiting the IOS release of the Rise & Fall expansion.

With all this said, get the game for free and try the 60 turn limit trial before deciding if the somewhat steep price of $60 is worth it to you. As a Civ fanatic, it certainly was worth it to me.

  • Great game but some issues

Just like many others I totally didn’t expect to see this game make its way to the iPad but it is most definitely a welcome surprise. The gameplay has been translated excellently to the iPad and just as you would expect from a Civilization game it has the same addicting qualities that keep you thinking “just one more turn” straight into the late hours of the night.

The issues of the game mainly relate to the performance, unlike many of the people reviewing the game I realise that expecting the visuals to be at the same standard of the PC version is wishful thinking. That being said I have experienced a few crashes into the later stages of the game as well as the iPad (9.7 inch model) being unable to keep the charge at 100% when attached to the mains due to the power consumption being greater than the power supplied. With regards to pricing I believe that for a AAA title such as this, a higher price tag is totally justified however at the same time I feel that £60 is too steep and that the current sale price is more in line with what I’d expect a AAA title to cost on this platform.

All in all I’m very impressed with the quality of the port to the iPad, now if you could also port over Civilization 5 with all its DLC, I (and many others) would buy it in a heartbeat.

  • Problems with iPad Pro

Can’t believe such a major game has finally been brought to the iPad, and as far as I can see, it should work perfectly on the iPad Air 2. However, I find it quite ridiculous that the game hasn’t been optimised for the larger screens of the iPad Pro models (10.5” and 12.5”) from the outset of release, I can’t really get my head around this, it’s almost as if the developers forgot that they needed to modify the visuals for the larger, most recent and powerful iPads. The blurry visuals can be quite uncomfortable to look at for a while, and the game interface is oversized, but I really hope that an update is released to solve this problem as soon as possible. Following on from this, in my opinion, the game, despite being a full 'computer grade' game, the £28 price tag is rather heavy for an iPad app and I’m sure is the main factor that will put people off buying it. I’m sure £15 or so would suffice and would attract more people to buy it. Personally, I do plan to pay the £28 because I can’t see the developers reducing the price, and it is amazing that such a great game has been brought to the iPad. To conclude, please please please developers optimise the visuals ASAP!! You wonder why you’re getting some bad initial reviews...

  • Civilization as it is

I’ve read the reviews and wondered about this potentially huge game in regards to graphics, size and immense gameplay, and how it would play on the iPad Pro.

I was so pleased it provided 60 free moves to test the speed, graphics and play by play based effectiveness as many other reviews commented on the lag they experienced, but they never mentioned which platform of iPad/mobile device they were using.

I found no such issues of any lag, graphics looked absolutely sleek and crisp, movement flowed as it should, smooth, so I can confidently state that if you were looking to purchase this for your iPad Pro, you would have zero issues as I’ve come across none to date. Absolute blast of a game too, I’ve always loved the series ever since the first!

  • Unbelievable

I can’t quire believe that the whole of Civ VI is here on iPad! Just a year ago I was asking on Reddit whether it would ever be possible for a port of the whole game and was told that there was absolutely no way. And here we are!

I have just one small critique at this point, and that’s that the graphics look fuzzy on the larger iPad Pro. This may be simply what is necessary to get the game to work, but if there were any way to sharpen up the graphics (not detail, just antialiasing), I would certainly appreciate it.

Well done to all the people who made this happen!

  • If you know Civ games you know this

This is the full game of civilization 6 as you would play it on Mac or pc (without the expansions). I bought it for the $30 price (before Jan 2018) and if you are thinking it sounds like a steep price for an iPad game, just remember you’re getting a full game that’s also at least at time of release $60. I’ve always loved the civ games as to me it’s one of those games you can relax really relax with. But I don’t like playing games on my Mac and always thought games like this would be perfect on an iPad with touch screen and voila they did it and it works wonderfully with touch gestures. Love I can chill on the couch with my iPad with this game. Graphics are great, haven’t played on Mac but from what I hear it looks liked if you put it on low setting. It has only crashed on me twice (it auto saves every turn) so no lost game time. I will say I’m playing on iPad Pro and it runs perfect. I really hope this will be the forefront for more big games to start develop on iPad, games like Cities Skylines would be perfect too.

Bottom line I’m impressed and not regretting coughing up $30 for this games as I’ve already put in countless of hours and many more to come.
