DONT BUY THINKWARE

The app is useless, the ADAS is lame and the cloud features pretty much non-existent.

All the previous reviews suggest they simply do not care about updating the app which is the control centre of the dashcam.

Really regret buying the U1000 now, and can't even return it without taking a hit! Stay away from Thinkware, you have been warned.

Expensive

I agree this is very expensive not to be able tobe connected to thinkware hotspot at all times to access cloud features at all times from anywhere hope to see features in future updates please revise your app if my car has a hot spot in it I should be able to connect anywhere but you have to push WiFi button every time you want to connect to app on camera

Works, Mostly

Once you get everything to connect, most of the program works. It took multiple tries to make the first connection with the camera, but seems to be working now. Attempting the change the password on the camera’s WiFi locked me out, forcing me to reset the camera (deleting everything). There are also some camera settings that cannot be adjusted from the app (like audio recording) that you have to do on the camera itself. And, if you click off the app on your phone for more than a couple seconds, you lose the connection for some reason. There are no preview images for the recordings, but it does mark the time they were taken and if it was a front or rear camera.

I tried making a Thinkware account through the app to see how it worked and if it added functionality, but it turns out there are password restrictions (very limited special characters) that it 1) doesn’t inform you of and 2) doesn’t reject your new password if it contains those characters - instead it just blocks you from being able to log in. Try choosing reset password? Nope. Doesn’t work.

In the end, it works to change some settings and get the videos off the camera wirelessly. However, there are bugs and limitations.

Used Nexar app before this

Thumbnails would help a lot. There is a huge guessing game when trying to find an incident that wasn’t auto-tripped or manually recorded. Also a little buggy connecting with WiFi. Eventually smoothed out. App definitely needs more work with the user experience. I used the Nexar app to use my phone as a dash cam before purchasing the Thinkware and it was way more intuitive.

7 months of use review

I have been using an F800 Pro 2 channel for about 7 months. By far, this software is the worst part of an otherwise okay experience. Finding videos is absolutely painstaking and tedious unless you pull the sd card and look on your computer. There is also no way to turn down the mic input as it seems to be way too loud. Thinkware’s own voice sounds incredibly loud during playback. Also if you are connected to the dashcams wifi, it always disconnects after about 5 min.

Lost a customer

I rarely submit a review, but seeing how everyone here is unhappy with the app, it shows the overall provider's customer service quality. I was thinking of buying the u1000 but I will not because everyone is not happy.

Buggy and has WiFi connection problems

I just bought Thinkware’s top of the range U1000 dash cam and this app is buggy and also needs to be manually reconnected every time you get in the car. Why?

This app is meant to be the control centre for the Thinkware dash cam range but it doesn’t work well. If I pay $1000 for a product I expect the software to work. Please fix it urgently.

App needs work.

The camera only connects to a cell phone WiFi or iPad WiFi. Camera will not connect to a home WiFi while parked outside a house. The app also must stay open and on the screen otherwise the camera disconnects automatically from the cell phone WiFi. The App also alerts on Speed Zone Cameras when there is absolutely no cameras around. Would be nice to quickly mark a clip to share once parked in a safe locations. Probably could find other revisions needing to be made with this app but it is why comes to mind right now.

Where’s the cloud access ??

Supposed to be able to view the dash cam via the cloud which you can not do . Instead you are evidently supposed to connect the dash cam to your cell phones WiFi hotspot , now get this , then you leave your cell phone in your car ( because that is super convenient) then with your cell in the car and your dash cam linked to your cell phones hot spot you can access your dash cams images via the cloud from anywhere in the world.

Needs serious improvement

No swipe to go back? I have to reach to the top of my phone to hit the back button instead of just swiping from the left edge of the display? No options for what spoken notifications I want? No warning that parking mode will only work if the unit is hardwired? No automatic download to phone of recent incidents? No automatic connection to my phone when it turns on? I have to manually connect every time I want to check the videos? This software needs some serious improvement for the amount I paid for this camera that doesn’t even do parking mode unless I pay more money to buy a hardwiring kit. Maybe you should make that clear in your advertising or at least provide a hardwiring kit in the box...
