Flawed

If you have a faulty collecting app like this, you will have faulty data.
Insurance companies have been duped, or they want flawed data for excuses to raise rates.

Within 2 weeks of my trying, flaws in app already appearing. Though my trips clearly say I drive in the daytime, between 8a and 6p, without exception, it has 80% of those same trips labeled as “late night” time of day category.

As a former IT admin, I know of NO app that needs to be Always On, if coded correctly. A better approach is to let a user simply signify when they are taking a trip, like we do when we exercise…OR, to tie use to a vehicle - Not a phone. Always On begs data inaccuracy. So there is something else they are gleaning, though they say they aren’t.

I find it interesting the app is supposed to be about better driving, but it doesn’t really tell you PRECISELY what those are? Define “late night” and Time of Day? You won’t find it stated anywhere. Define what discount percentages are given at what point, time or trips? Is Time of Day a factor? You won’t find that either.

The paltry 5% savings isn’t worth my handing over my data, which my 45 year perfect driving record should be plenty, to substantiate. That’s how they used to determine things.

App records any trip in any car, not just yours

One of the main problems I have with this app is the fact that it tracks your mileage, even if you are the passenger in someone else’s car. If you set it to passenger it won’t affect your score if you’re on your phone or the person driving is speeding at all, but it’s still gathering info to track how many miles you’ve supposedly driven by the end of the year. Why isn’t there a device that goes in your car like the drive safe program so that it follows YOUR vehicle and not someone else’s? I got this app because it came with cheaper insurance company option but I don’t know that it’s even saving me money. It also does not have accurate speed limits so it says you’re speeding even if you aren’t. Super annoying

Needs a Report Function

I am a safe driver. I don’t speed, I have small kids in the car so I am very careful. But this app consistently has wrong speed limits for my area or is enforcing yellow speed signs which NC law enforcement states are just suggestions and not enforceable speed limits. Additionally there is no way to say if someone else is using my phone while I am driving. There should be an option for this so that I am not counted as driving distracted if I am not the one using my phone. This app needs a way to report incorrect speed limits and to mark how one’s phone was being used in the car.

Inaccurate speed limit information

I have the Routely app on my phone for my car insurance. It has inaccurate information for speed limits in places. For instance, it has some streets with 35MPH limits as 30, 25 or even 20. It seems to not differentiate between a school zone limit during restricted hours and unrestricted hours, making the speed limit always 20MPH.

The “Time of day” category is also an unfair thing to rate. When I drive, and likely when many others drive, is determined by work. It’s not something I can easily change to improve my score.

I would like to add that I have a decent score on the app, but where I am deducted for points, especially time of day that I drive and driving the posted speed limit as opposed to what the app thinks, needs to be fixed.

Not impressed

Today was my first day with the app and I have already run into numerous issues. I drove about 96 miles on my first trip and didn’t go over 60 mph the whole drive. When checking my trip summary I found that the app had recorded me going 103 mph. Seeing this, I’m having a hard time believing that this app can accurately measure my speed. On top of the inaccuracy of the speed, it also seems to think that every time I stop at a light I am getting knocked for “suddenly breaking”. Another thing I have noticed is that my battery is dropping rather fast. I haven’t been using my phone (because I have been driving) and my battery percentage has dropped 50%. If this thing is going to be eating up my batter while running in the background I’ll either have to get a new phone or just drop this service in general. I plan on using this for the rest of the week to see if things change, but if this keeps up it might just be worth paying more for my car insurance.

*Update:
I have been using the app now for about 3 weeks and my opinion has not changed. I have been given a bad driving score for the time of day that I am driving, which I think is ridiculous. I can’t adjust my work schedule to cater to the app. There is also a incorrectly marked speed limit on my commute to work so I get marked as speeding on almost every trip. I am also still finding that I am somehow traveling 20-40mph over the speed limit when I haven’t gone more that 5mph over my entire trip.

Slow

This app takes forever to update trips. I should be able to tap and go - NO I tap and wait. Tap again, tap again. Close it out, open it, close, open and again and again. It’s up to date but all it does is frustrate me. I’m calling my insurance company tomorrow and find out how much it’s gonna cost to get rid of this stupid app. Anything is worth it to not have to deal with this… the scoring is another thing. It doesn’t seem to matter what happens - I’m never going to get above 8.6! I drive to my job people - I can’t help that everyone works the same hours. It’s rush hour - can’t quit my job and just stay home.

Not worth it- does not reflect reality

My insurance company uses this app. This application does not reflect actual driving. Whenever I drive my truck I get dinged with sudden braking events - despite having none. The same route in my SUV - which I drive often does not cause this. Also, you have to remember to maintain the app when someone else is driving by switching to passenger mode. You would think the app could determine if I’m constantly interacting with my phone I’m not driving. It would seem that switching to passenger mode is simple until you’ve ran errand all day and find twenty events over 8 trips for distracting driving, but you never drove that afternoon.

Find a better way to save on insurance than to use this app.

Speeding

App says I’m speeding when I know for a fact I’m driving like a grandpa..if you can update your speed zones on the app please because I see multiple times where I’m going the speed limit which is 55 mph but the app is saying the speed limit is 35 or 45 mph. Other then that the app is great put your phone on dnd while driving and don’t touch your phone till you make it to your destination

New user

I only signed up for this app for the insurance discount. Last month I got dinged for distracted driving even though the phone was never touched. It stays on the dash face down the entire time I’m driving. I also got dinged for”time of day” even though I don’t drive at night. I’m trying to better understand the algorithm here so I can fix these “deficiencies” going forward.
The app is ok as long as the discount continues but I’m concethat the rate will go up due the these random issues.
