Mostly great BUT…

I strongly dislike that they track personal info such as financial info, contact info, purchases, sensitive data, as well as other data like websites you visit etc. without giving you an option to opt out. Check it out in the policy agreement you are forced to sign if you want access all the good things they have to offer. It’s a trade off you have to decide on.

Great App, but Reliance on Meta for Commenting is Concerning

Goods Unite Us is an important and well-executed app. The concept is valuable for conscious consumers, and the interface is clean, minimal, and user-friendly. It covers a wide range of brands with enough information to help make informed choices.

That said, I have some feedback for improvement. It would be great to have a way to access more detailed information about the brands or the sources used for their political affiliations. While the app does a good job of summarizing, additional context could enhance transparency and depth.

Also, this is a critical point: the blog only allows comments via Facebook. Many of us have left Facebook (now Meta) as part of our activism against the platform’s practices. Relying on Facebook as the sole option for contributing to conversations creates a barrier for those who share your values but refuse to use that platform. It excludes a significant part of your audience who would otherwise engage meaningfully. Offering *Politically Neutral* comment systems, like email submissions, or an in-app comment section, would be far more inclusive and aligned with the principles Goods Unite Us seems to promote.

Overall, the app is a fantastic tool, but I hope the developers take these suggestions into consideration to make it even better.

Great concept, could use some tweaks

I love the concept here and I’ve been sharing it to other people. The icons with Donkeys or Elephants is helpful, when I’m in the store aisle and skimming. However, it’s not as intuitive UI as I would like. Doesn’t seem like you can build a list of your favorites, just use the “follow” button. I wish there was a way to build a list of favorites “buy these” and a “don’t buy these”, to save for later reference. It’s also difficult searching if there’s an umbrella company and you don’t know the umbrella company’s name. That said, I will continue to use the app and learn more about how to use it. I will continue sharing this as part of my app list for thoughtful consumerism along with the No Thanks app.

No “contact” allowance, means false info is uncontestable

I’m into a LOT of what this app does. If the information can be trusted, it’s great. They say they vet all info, but in 5 minutes on the site I found several debatable “facts”. For instance, this app says Under Armour is a supporter of Democrats. I’ve read multiple places, it’s VERY generous to Republicans. Correct or incorrect, there’s no way to challenge the info provided by Goods Unite Us, of if there is, it’s far too buried in menus. Even though I’d guess they overall lean towards the politics I support, they need to offer some way to contact, other than “debate.”

A really eye opening useful app

I have used this app several years. Being on a limited income, it can be hard to be politically conscious. This app helps balance my political buying power. I balance a company & it’s products political leanings , and the store I am purchasing froms political leaning. Many of the stores near me lean a certain way, so I try to buy products that lean the way I vote. Some products I won’t trade using, but as much as I can, I consider politically

A bit left leaning

Looking at their explanation of campaign finance reform, they assume most republicans are against. Hmmmm. Well, considering what just happened on Nov 5, and the amount of money wasted by the left, I wonder…….. Anyway, I’ll find another app, this is a bit blue/left for me.

Update when you look at their statement about what companies are supporting what candidate I find it interesting that for Donald Trump when they see a company donating $5 million it’s staggering, by the way, this was LP Transfer. But when you look at Biden, a.k.a. Harris, someone is donating 4.8 million and it’s referred to as nearly. If people using this app, don’t see the bias inherent in this and you keep reading the literature that they spout and it’s obviously anti-republican. Country just had a vote where they won the popular vote and the electoral college. This is an issue. I will not be using this app whatsoever due to it, racist and misogynistic viewpoints parentheses just kidding I know that’s liberals talking about Republicans even though Republicans increased votes in minorities in all).

Out of date

The app shows Joe Biden as the Democrat candidate in the 2024 election. It’s unclear how to “follow” a brand. I made a mistake and chose a wrong company when setting up my profile Quiz for the first time. There doesn’t seem to be any way to edit it. The help menu is useless. You can’t ask a question to find an answer.
Other than this complaints, it’s a very useful app to find out where a company spend its money and donations.

Response from developer

Hi Manasota, we're really glad to hear you find the app so useful! And thank you so much for the feedback, we're aware of several of these issues and are hard at work fixing them. We really appreciate your support and will get things sorted as fast as possible!

This App is saving my sanity!

Thank you so much for creating this app. I can now check up on my companies I financially support and see where they put their money as far as political parties. To me a 50/50 is fair. But if I see that one of my favorite companies donates to the Red party more than the Blue then they are going to hear from me and I will discontinue my support until they realign their donations. This app even lets me contact many companies directly with email. Love that aspect and would love to see that added to every company they list.

Please Update for 2024 Elections!!

Looks like a great app and I’d love to be able to use it. But seems that this may not have been updated since much after the 2020 election. So, I’m coming here to request that the data be updated for the 2024 election cycle.

I love that it’s free, but if the problem is funding, I’ll bet there would be people willing to donate or maybe you could charge a nominal one time fee (rather than subscription) and/or make the fee optional.

Hi Jill, thank you so much for your support! Working on our data is most of what we do. There are a number of issues that have given people the impression that we haven't been updating our numbers but rest assured they have. If you'd like to discuss anything further, send us a message at contact@goodsuniteus.com and thanks again!

Amazing tool to measure the ethics of well known American companies

Seeing which politicians are accepting bribes is a massive eye opener. Some companies I have done business with have been shown to not be as trustworthy as I once thought. So the app has already changed my shopping habits drastically.

One feature request would be to suggest alternatives.

I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the fact the app isn’t so private as I would like to have it.
