  • Updated : Great system

Update : App quit working on my iPad, but it’s a really old one running an old version of iOS so I can’t really blame Brilliant. They reached out and tried to help, which I appreciate. Word on the street is that they may be going out of business. Hope not as it really is a great system.
Original : Love the Brilliant system overall. I have several of their controls throughout my house and was a relatively early adopter. However, after the most recent update, the app now just crashes at launch on my iPad. Have tried removing it and reinstalling, restarting the iPad, etc.

  • Fantastic system, but little gripe

I've got two Brilliant panels in my house, both work great! One needed to have the base replaced but support is fantastic and they handled replaced it right away for me. Ties almost all my systems together and I'm very happy with it.

Look forward to new integrations and for them to fix the inconceivable oversight of not including international timezone/weather info. Literally only US zones and zip codes are available.

  • Not very brilliant

App logs out from inactivity. No way to save password in key chain on iOS or use Face ID. Then verification code by email goes to junk mail because they can’t setup the email Marc properly with mandrill app.

Had to go through all this because one of the hard set lights supposed to always be on turned off (have other smart bulbs on that circuit and needed it to stay on).

  • Fake app rating (per usual)

I’ve never had an installation app work so terribly before in my life. I CONSTANTLY had to close out of the app to connect a device, turn something on. Connecting the brilliant panel to alexa was the most confusing thing. The app says “successfully connected, you may now use alexa.” And of course, the voice command didnt work. So after 5 minutes of closing out and clicking around, I found a secret menu that enables me to turn on voice mode….a setting that I mistakenly trusted the app for being turned on WHEN IT TOLD ME SO. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I’ve never wanted to hate an app more. Never setting one of these up ever again.

  • Fantastic Smart Home System - Better than Savant!

Spent over $50k on A/V and Savvant system for our second home only to be blown away with our new brilliant systems in our primary. We installed 7 of the single grange throughout the house approx 4 inches above certain light switches. We don’t even use them as “light switches”, instead we use them as smart home “mini panels” that connects to our rings, Sonos, climate, and Lutron lights!! These are amazing!!

  • No Watch App

To me, this would be so much more convenient with an apple watch companion app. Most of the time, it’s less effort to use the switches on the wall than use the app. Sure, it’s nice to be able to control things from outside the apartment, but I haven’t had much need for that. Things would be so accessible and quick from the watch though, and I would be really happy with it if that was a feature.

  • Great concept - fails to execute

I bought this thinking this would be an end all solution to hardwire connect many smart devices without a phone. Well, it works… sometimes. Sometimes I need to reboot the panel, aka remove from the wall and reinstall, wait a couple minutes, and then see if Brilliant can then detect devices whereas on my phone I can see them. This seems to happen frequently with Lifx and Magic LED strips. It’s really unfortunate because for a $500 device you would think it would be able to reasonably refresh as to whether a device is online or not. When things don’t work like activating a scene to turn all lights off on the house yet to it not do that and then cause you to pull out your phone to do it is lowkey annoying.

  • Work in progress

The app is not elegant but works fairly well on phone, terrible on iPad. Integration with HomeKit is extremely limited, only light switches get exported. Controller camera is very low quality so video on app is mediocre. Otherwise the control looks great and does what it is supposed to.
