Used to be a life saver
This app was amazing, for years. It had various missing functions but it was solid and I used it daily. At some point a few months ago something changed and it required a long-ago-created log in, that I couldn’t remember or access (it has an arcane two-different-login system), and I was busy (duh, that’s why I use it) so I let it go and reverted to paper lists. I keep missing it though (paper lists are ok but not enough), so I tried getting back in again - but found it was crashing. So I ran the update - and still, crashing. As in, it’s up for ten seconds and then closes itself. Completely useless. So I’m about to go find myself a new GTD app. Sayonara, Omnifocus.

I’ve used OmniFocus on the desktop for many years and generally like it, in spite of how overly complex it is. I use it on my iPhone constantly too and have learned to live with all its bugs and weird/confusing behavior.
The Apple Watch app should be handy to keep you on task with what you have to do. But it is worthless because the complication that is supposed to show you your due task count always displays the wrong count. Sometimes zero, sometimes 1 or 2 or 17 but never the number of tasks you’ll see if you tap it. This has been this way for over a year – check out their support forums for all the bugs with the watch app that they don’t bother to respond to, let alone fix.
I spent several days with their condescending tech support (after waiting 2 weeks for the first response) and had to answer the same questions over and over before they decided that it’s Apple’s problem and told me they’ll fix it when they get around to it and that I should go away.
It’s surprising no one can make a good Todo app but save your money and use one of the simpler and less expensive ones. It won’t be great either but it’ll be less annoying than OmniFocus.

Great concept but missing critical features
I have heard all kinds of good things about OmniFocus through reviews and articles. I recently signed up for the trial. I’m glad they offered one - as at the end it wasn’t for me.
Things that deterred me to look elsewhere included:
1) The lack of a sync feature either through the web, Outlook, and Windows. I do not have the luxury of having a Mac at my office and it makes it very difficult to manage my task list effectively.
2) Quick inbox entries do not exist. It always opens the standard task dialog. It’s not quick in adding entries.
3) Drag and drop is very difficult to use. It look some luck to sort the list through drag and drop via the iPhone.
While Todoist and Things 3 has its flaws, both appear to be better options in terms of quick and easy task management. Pocket Informant also does things similar to OmniFocus, but does so that a $10 discount versus the standard addition of OmniFocus includes other features such as calendar management and contact management.
If OmniFocus were to add a sync feature and include an easier way to quickly add tasks, I will give OmniFocus another serious look.

Solid, but Needs Drop Down Calendars
I fluctuate between using Things and OmniFocus. While I don’t think OmniFocus needs to become more like Things, I do wish it would drop the date wheel altogether and use a calendar drop instead. The solution used now is a mash of the two, and for efficiency sake and a more modern look, having a full calendar month to work off of is just better. Could also use a cleaner more consistent font size (maybe even an entirely new font) and better use of space, but it still is a super solid task app and I thank the developers for getting much of it right. So all said, OmniFocus does a better job with weekly review, option controls, wrapped text (very annoying omission in Things), and attachment support.

Omnifocus 3 best update to date
I’ve been an Omnifocus pro user since version 1, and I’ve got to say version 3 is my favorite thus far. I use Omnifocus everyday for work and personal life. The custom perspectives in version 3 are fantastic, and I particularly love the ability to add multiple tags to each action, a game changer for me. Also, their customer service, the few times I’ve needed them over the years have always been very prompt and helpful. The iOS and Mac version are well worth the investment.

Worth the investment of time and money
There are lots of effective solutions for project / time management...as long as you continue to use them. OF3 has the interface, feature-set, tools and support that will keep you dedicated.
Read the manual or invest in MacSparky’s videos. If you already work 60-hour weeks like me you may not be able to keep everything perfect in here, but the main satisfaction is knowing that nothing is lost...and you don’t have to remember what you need to not forget!!

Great app
I really love this app. Helps me stay organized and on top of my tasks. Really love the defer feature and now the tag feature. The sequential projects are so perfect for my workflow. This is the only app I have stuck with after trying several others. It has a learning curve but once you get the hang of it there is no other app that meets the bar. Only change I would ask the developers is to allow use of Apple Pencil to scribble in tasks. And perhaps improve the aesthetics and looks of the app.

Well thought through redesign
One complaint: OmniFocus 3 is still not available on Mac. Other than that I really enjoy this redesign.
Considering OF? There is a bit of a learning curve but those who invest time into developing their workflow get the most out of this app. There are plenty of blogs and tutorials online to get you going. If you’re tired of forgetting things all the time throw out everything you know about todo lists and really take some time to master OmniFocus.

Fantastic productivity manager with continual improvement
I’ve used OmniFocus since version 1 and have found it that it is indispensable in collecting, organizing, and completing the things I need to get done.
I saw the glowing reviews on version 3 and was expecting to be blown away. I was not. I downloaded the 14 day trial and as I used it more and more, I began to uncover the various features that convinced me to buy it.
One feature (that I consider small and simple to execute) that is still not included in the mobile version is being able to see the date that an item was completed. I have numerous multi-tiered projects that last for many months. When reviewing a project, the question as to when a certain task was completed often arises. I can see the completion date on the Mac version, why not the iPhone/iPad version?

Need to pay again for pro upgrade?
Let me say it clearly: I think Omnifocus is probably the most comprehensive task manager for mac and ios and I gladly payed the pro upgrade for both. I like the omnifocus 3 upgrade, but it is largely tasks instead of contexts, and some tweaks in functionality and UI. What however feels more like a rip-off is that not only a upgrade fee needs to be paid, but I also have to re-purchase the pro upgrade. I would have expected that at least the pro upgrade carries forward to the new version. And I am certain, the same thing will happen with the Mac app once available. For that money, I could (and probably will) switch to another app, like 2do or Things 3. I am sure the developers of omnifocus will claim that OF3 is a completely new app and purchase, but I do not agree and follow that “unlogic”, because this is not a complete redesign of the app. In summary, I like the app and some of the new functions (not sure about events mingled with the tasks). BUT I do not like having to purchase again the pro upgrade. That just does not feel right and existing OF2 pro users should have been appreciated enough to provide this option without an additional fee. Sad.
