  • UP lacks fundamental services and does not meet consumer expectations

In our current society, it is of consumer and industry standard to offer 24/7 and fast response times, especially in dealing with urgent and important matters. UP is the king of dragging matters out, I’ve had the worse possible contact from UP. It’s like they don’t remember your a customer.

Additionally, their buggy app will cause you to always see funds missing and reappearing or just missing and not appearing, without explanation too. I just recently had a payment of over 100 dollars taken out of my account due to a ‘Osko glitch’, causing my account to reside in negative figures making the account unusable until further resolution from UP Bank staffers. The live chat just takes hideous amount of time for a response and the call centre just puts you on hold for hours. This simple issue has yet to be resolved and I am still in complete confusion as to why and how UP has made two back to back mistakes, in incorrectly charging me, then giving me a automated response, which did not answer my problem.

Still currently down over 100 dollars for no reason.

  • I. Am. In. Love

I have been a loyal ANZ customer for over 10 years and have never faltered…. Until now. Everything about UP is just ahead of all the big banks in terms of it’s app features and all that it offers. I have used this for about 6 months now after my partner showed me, I was very confident I wouldn’t be converted but I was so wrong. I am completely converted. Everything about this bank makes my life easier but also it’s so fun…. Who would have thought… banking would be fun 😭 UP bank DID that!!!! You know the updates that banks send in an email about incoming features that we don’t read? Up uses a tree graph and simplifies it for us simpletons and I actually read it…. Because I enjoy reading their updates. They’re changing the game and I am here for it. I love it!!!!!!

  • Fantastic App but don’t like having to spend money every month to qualify for interest rates

i absolutely adore the Up app, the interface, their folders, round ups, being able to lock your account, and save up schemes, I think it is an absolutely fantastic banking app that is revolutionary compared to the other big banks, however I do not like having to make purchases every month in order to earn interest, i feel like this is promoting consumerism and in direct opposition to my savings goals. I prefer to use cash so as to monitor my spending and so when there is a requirement to make purchases in order to gain interest i feel like i lose control of my spending and it makes it harder for me to maintain my savings goals, hence i will be moving my money back into my NAB saver account despite how much I enjoy the Up interface. i will definitely be keeping my Up bank account and if they ever get rid of the monthly transaction requirement I would be very quick to transfer my money back over to Up bank!!

  • Customer Service and Interest Rates declined

I used to love this bank and this app.

Recently, things have taken a turn. The customer service portal is completely useless. I lodged a fraudulent charge 5 weeks ago and have been asking for updates for 3, which is entirely unacceptable. I haven’t even gotten a response other than “someone will contact you soon” nearly 20 days ago.

When I first joined this bank, it had really competitive interest rates. Now my other two accounts have higher rates, and given the level of service I receive, I am very close to transferring all of my money out of up and into one of my other accounts.

    Do better!!! Please.

  • Stable, decent features, simple to use, but not ironed out.

I tend to look at the app differently than a regular user would do. My view is that from an mobile developer perspective.

The app has been surprisingly good and stable, which is my #1 concern. Also, they’re quite transparent with their goals that you can see on their so called The Tree of UP.

For the computer nerds like me, UP provides a way for nerds to make their own banking app (or other product) with data from your own UP account.

For the non computer nerds, imagine it as importing your transactions into an Excel sheet but with your own website/app instead of Excel.

    Its not ironed out yet.
I do find bugs such as the Face ID going in an infinite loop (killing and restarting the app solves it), send message with a GIF crashing the app (memory leaking) and the split payment page turning into a page not found (restarting app solves it). But in a day to day usage, I tend to not notice any issues.

Their way of contacting is only by chat, which can be found in the app. In general, the replies are quick. I haven’t had something happening where I needed immediate contact, but I can imagine that it wouldn’t be a great experience in that case because it’s chat only, on your small phone screen. I’m sure phone calls happen too but it seems like they only want you to use that in case your card is stolen.

Still, 5 stars from me. I enjoy the app. Well done!

  • An excellent app, the future of all banking apps.

I have only been using Up for the last week. It is a truly excellent app and banking experience. It took me mere minutes to open an account, verifying my identity and issuing me a digital debit card through the app. The UI is great and easy to navigate. I am still learning some of the functions but thus far have opened a 2Up joint account with my wife, set up multiple saver accounts with auto transfers and looked into the brief spending insights that have been generated so far.

The saving accounts let you allocate cool and meaningful icons next to them. I have a profile pic set and my own Up Payid. In the joint account each transaction will have the profile pic of the spender attached to it as well as an icon from the business if available. It may not sound like much but it is an easy, modern user experience and so different to the other banks I use. I highly recommend trying it.

  • Would recommend so many good features

A lot of capabilities in the Up app. I like how it intuitively copies the account details (saves time) and you can make different savings accounts. The ability to split incoming regular payments into transaction / savings accounts is really good too. A feature similar to my old ING account is the roundup feature - I like this. I really like how you can input upcoming bills and balance reflects what is actually spendable after taking that into account. It also just looks clean. The breakdown of spending categories is great.
Only downside is sometimes when I go back into the app on a page that uses Face ID it keeping loops the face authentication and requires me to close the app. This is infrequent at least.
I’m also going to keep my old ING account and pay some utilities from that given their cash back scheme but if they ever get rid of it then I’ll transfer 100% to Up. Overall very happy. Messaged support in app and got a human response within 10 minutes :)

  • Amazing

The best bank I have ever had the pleasure of being with.
Only stopped using them since moving back to NZ :(
Please make available here I would switch back in a heart beat if I could !!
  • No nonsense Australian bank AND app

Both good bank AND app are important. Both just as important. Been using since day 1 and can’t fault it for my use case and I and do compare against offerings. Excellent.

    Developer Response

Thanks for leaving a review. Upsider since day 1, much respect 👊
  • Mr

Takes hours for payments to be processed, constant shut downs and service issues and I generally wouldn’t recommend if payment times and dates are important to you.
