  • Exactly what I was looking for!

This app is truly exactly what I was looking for. I wanted an app that would help me target verbs specifically - conjugations, irregular verbs, different tenses, & help me expand my vocabulary. This app has it all & then some! I love the reference list of verbs (including the detailed page for every verb showing different tenses, synonyms, & right on top the verb in gerundio & participo forms), the quizzes which you can even customize, & more. It’s really the best. & the app developers seem amazing! I emailed customer support with a question regarding the pro subscription & heard back directly from Jane who was so kind & helpful in her response! Highly recommend this app!

  • It’s so versatile!

I’ve had the Ella app for more than a year now and it just keeps getting better.
Brian refines it and introduces new features and updates regularly so learning verb conjugation will never be boring. It has an amazing number of quizzes and ways to adapt them to your particular needs at any given time.
My favourite features at the moment are - using my own list of verbs, hiding the infinites and including reflexive verbs in the quizzes. I also love the 30 recap questions at the end of each level- good for revision!
Finally, the customer service is great. If I have a query, I’m sent an acknowledgment instantly by Jane and very soon after I get an answer from her.
Thank you Jane and Brian. You’re a great team.

First language app I’ve come across in a long time that works for me and encourages retention, definitely recommend.

  • Spanish Made Easy (Well, Spanish Made Not So Hard)

It has been interesting watching my grandchildren learn their first language as I’m attempting to learn my second. Through a process of trial and error, “Me go bed,” has quickly transformed into, “I’m going to bed.” The Ella app was designed to shape its user’s language development in the same way. Step-by-step, trial and error, test and retest—it isn’t easy, but it works incredibly well. And, like my grandchildren, my efforts are sustained by success. I am slowly attaining a level of aptitude where I no longer have to analyze every subject/verb situation; now, the correct answer just “sounds right.”

Ella explains the grammar behind each building-block lesson, but my actual learning has occurred during the testing. In my own development, retesting until I make no mistakes is the surest road to comprehension. Other apps I’ve tried seem to have been built with the understanding that users will quickly fade away like New Year’s resolution fitness club memberships. Ella was designed for people who are willing to do the hard work to achieve success.

I have listed below all the changes I would like incorporated into the Ella app:

    Absolutely nothing.

I highly recommend this app for anyone who dreams of conquering the seemingly inscrutable mysteries of Spanish verb conjugations.

  • A great app!

I started learning Spanish to be able to speak to my nieces and nephews who are being raised bilingual. I felt limited with duolingo and similar apps, feeling like I was slowed down by the lack of focus on verb conjugations and explanations of grammar. This app does a really good job of helping you learn the conjugations and explaining them. I’m excited to see how this app grows! I hope the following improvements are made with time:
    1. Clarifications on when a word is common in different countries, like conducir is used in Spain for to drive, but manejar is used in Mexico.
    2. A little more forgiveness in translations. For example, being asked to conjugate “I start” and it accepting both empezar and comenzar. Or, a bit more distinction between two infinitives that have similar meanings in the translations so you can make sure you translate to the correct one.
    3. I would love to see this app in more languages! I’m very rusty with French and would love this app in French as well!
    4. I would love to expand on the focus on grammar. Possibly having separate sections for explaining different grammatical terms and how they’re being used, as well as a good explanation of the set up of sentences. I know this is an app focused on verbs, but I think that would be a great path for growth.

Hey there, Thanks a million for the lovely review, I'm delighted it's helping you so much in your Spanish :) That's also amazing feedback - thanks for sharing! 1. We plan on adding Latin American Spanish verbs and definitions in the near future. 2. We're currently looking into improving the app so it accepts multiple verbs that can be used in the same context, so hopefully this will be up and running soon :) 3. We do want to eventually explore different languages down the line but want to perfect the Spanish app as much as we can first, as we are both fluent in this :) 4. We're also currently working on expanding into grammar, but it will be a while before it's ready to add to the app! Thanks again for the feedback and I hope the app continues to help you with your Spanish :) Best wishes, Jane
  • Amazing

This is the first review I write on any site in my life. This is how good this app is.

On top of that, I had a problem and Jane wrote me back a lengthy really helpful email to help me.

App amazing, service amazing. This was worth my first review.

    Benoit.

Hey Benoit, That's so wonderful to hear. We really appreciate you taking the time to write your first ever review - and for us!! Thank you so much for the support! Best wishes, Jane :)
  • excellent educational tool

Having not spoken Spanish in some time, I realized I had forgotten some verb structures. There's nothing better for a review of the complex conjugations of Spanish verbs than this app.

it's very well designed, allowing you to practice and be quizzed within a particular verb with all the conjugations required for every grammatical tense. It's also organized for practice within each grammatical tense using both regular and irregular verbs. The quizzes are very helpful, correct pronunciations supplied, along with practice with spelling and accent placement, which I desperately needed.

The free trial gives you plenty of time to scope it out. I found it a very effective learning tool and I highly recommend ellaverbs

  • Exactly what you need, no more.

TL;DR: It’s better to know how to conjugate things to say what you want with a very limited vocabulary, than to have a vast vocabulary without being able to conjugate verbs in all their forms. This fixes that.

As someone with 5 years of formal schooling in Spanish I worked through all Spanish tenses and remember a good bit. (I’m conversationally fluent in present, and past tense)That being said I’m also in a very unique position where I know enough to get by but not enough to enjoy speaking because I always have to use work arounds a and I know some things I say are wrong. I wanted to do Duolingo, but I’d probably spend months to get to the material that’s new. My vocab is limited, but being able to create almost any sentence with limited vocab is much more functional that not knowing how to conjugate verbs to say a phrase the way you want to say it. Learning vocab will come very naturally and easily so long as you know how to properly conjugate the most common verbs. I’d much rather look up a noun that I don’t know than to find out how to conjugate a verb in a tense I don’t know.

Based off of what I have seen from this in literally 10 minutes. I suspect that if you were to learn on Quizlet the top 1000 commonly used vocab words, and pair that with this that you could become conversationally fluent so long as you had a speaking partner.

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for for years. Thank you developers.
