  • Overall Review

Roadie have been updating the app so commonly in the recent weeks and here are the pros and cons.

I have been hustling with Roadie for quite a while and I love it.

    Pros:
    - Simple instructions
    - Pays good for a hustler
    -Convenient
    - Multiple gigs at same time from same shop/pickup-place
    - Both email and phone support are available

    Cons
    - With the recent update it’s hard/impossible to get multiple gigs from the same store if you get accepted to only one and you can’t see any other gigs until you’re done with the one you have. it’s not convenient to drive 30 miles back and forth for $15 (one gig) but if you can get more gigs then it’s worth it.
    - Cancellation fee is so low (I question offering a gig a lot because you would have to wait even for an hour now or you would only get $4 for cancellation fee) sometimes you might drive for 10-20 miles to get a $20-$45 gig but if the waiting time is a lot or the item isn’t available you only get $3-6 cancellation fee.
    - Customer support is improving but it needs to get better. Waiting time shouldn’t be more then 3-5 mins. It used to be an hour but now u can expect 25-30 mins but that’s still an issue because you don’t have someone to guide you if you face an issue in store, with drop out or with cancellation.

Hopefully Roadie consider my review and respond to it.

    Thanks

  • Pretty Rough. I guess they gave up on widgets.

Still no iOS widgets, but they didn’t mention it in the latest release notes...
I wish that were the only issue with Roadie...

Deeply depressing that the developer response to my initial review stating that the Roadie support is useless is to say “remember we have 24/7 support”

I don’t know if it’s Roadie’s servers and back end, or mostly the app, but there’s always something broken (or slow at best) going on with this system. Obviously the store employees are not trained to deal with or understand anything with Roadie, and the pickup directions are wrong (or opposite) at almost every single pickup.

Payments are getting smaller and smaller per run and you WILL NOT be informed of the vast majority of available gigs in your area (assuming the notifications are even working on a given day). Roadie will say that depends on their top secret algorithm, but either way it is not giving drivers the best opportunity to find worthwhile assignments.

Roadie text and phone support appears to be outsourced, and also understaffed and undertrained. Support is almost useless, and often takes so long to respond that your gig is already ruined. When they do respond —sometimes hours later— it’s usually just repeating what is in the FAQs within the app and not relevant to your issue.

I want to love this, but their priority is certainly not looking out for the drivers.

  • Great when it works but has some flaws

Let me start by saying I love this app and the delivery process but there are a few problems that need to be addressed.
    1. The offer process takes too long and fails to process multiple pickups. There have been several occasions when 2 or more offers are available for pickup at the same location and which the dropoffs are headed in the same direction but I will only be accepted for one and never get a response on the others.
    2. There is no customer service. The text option is only available if you’re in the middle of a delivery. The phone option has left me on hold for 35+ minutes on several occasions which has delayed my deliveries. Emails are not answered at all.
    3. Toll reimbursement is an issue. In my state, we have cashless tolls which does not provide a paper receipt. We have an electronic database that will load a record of the toll but it takes up to 24 hours. I have tried numerous times to send in that “receipt” by email. I was able to reach one person that acknowledged they received it but several unanswered emails afterwards and after 2 weeks, have still not received a reimbursement or an answer from customer service.

  • If you hustle, you will succeed

I read through a bevy of reviews of Roadie here and I’m not sure why people are complaining about certain aspects of Roadie. I find the app to be transparent in showing up front gig pricing, and intuitive on sourcing multiple gigs that happen to be headed in close proximity to each other.

As far as people with payment concerns, anyone claiming Roadie isn’t paying out is just not telling the truth. I received direct deposit from the app just as it’s described, initiated on Tuesday, and posted to my account early Thursday morning. Any claims of non payment are unsubstantiated.

If you live in an area where there are gigs, you really shouldn’t have a problem putting some money in your pocket, I’m loving driving for Roadie, freedom and flexibility are really important.

  • Good cash when they actually have jobs. Don’t depend on this app for consistent cash flow.

I downloaded this to make some extra cash on the side. I have a pretty good job so don’t necessarily need the money. Seems at first there were a decent amount of gigs in my area. The first week I took gigs and got paid $110ish for the week of work all of a sudden there were absolutely no gigs in any of the areas I went to. I travel between 2 states and pretty good size metropolitan areas so I know there are normally gigs available. I’d be lucky if there was 1 but like 20 miles away and not really worth the $10-$15 to go there. I saw other reviews of people having the same issue. Not sure if they do that on purpose. But it’s an odd coincidence it happens to more than a couple people. Just don’t expect this to pay all your bills.

  • Pay structure

I wish the pay structure was less confusing. You have to scroll for days to see each transaction for the regular pay and tips which are labeled individually. Also, in our area for Walmart grocery delivery Roadie has lowered our base pay on all gigs by $3.00. They are guaranteeing at least a$3.00 tip on every gig even if we don’t get a tip from the customer. The only problem with this for the drivers is now the tips are starting to get pretty good and I get tipped on most gigs. I really don’t need a guarantee that I will get a tip. So if a customer tipped me more than three dollars Roadie takes three dollars of the tip and adds it to my base pay which brings my pay back up to what I was making before and then gives me the rest of the tip which they call an additional tip. So basically Roadie is using three dollars of my tip money to bring my base pay back up to what it used to be and then they give me the rest of a tip. So basically Roadie has lowered my pay. During these hard times and so many people have lost jobs and are turning to gigs to make ends meet this makes it really tough. I am appreciative of Roadie that I have this opportunity to make extra money but I’m just disappointed that they have decided to do this especially during these times.

  • Better but needs improvement

This app will let you pick multiple gigs at once without switching from one to another and being able to capture all pictures at once. However, the old app has this option that you can see what items are for the specific gigs picture but this one does not let you see the picture. This is helpful once you get to the location you can see the picture and drop all the correct items. Instead now I have to verify with the pick up list that I’m dropping off all the items.
Second. When taking proof of delivery the app does not recognize that you are in the location and you get the message that all other users seem to be struggling with.

  • New App Is Disappointing

I love driving for Roadie but I’m pretty underwhelmed by the new app. In addition to the recent reductions in payouts, the app has become very cumbersome. 1) Once you are “approved” for a delivery, you can no longer see how many items are in the order. This makes it very difficult to know if you’ve gotten the whole order at pickup. You can only see the number of items BEFORE you are approved now. 2) The pickup photo and delivery photo screens are almost indiscernible. It’s very easy to mix them up. 3) The app never seems to be able to detect your location accurately. Before taking the pickup photo...”Are you sure? You don’t seem to be at the pickup location.” Before taking the delivery photo...”Are you sure? You don’t seem to be...” YES, I’m sure! 4) This last issue is the worst. Previously, if you got pinged for a second order/delivery while you were at the same store, you could accept it, view both orders, pick them both up at the same time, then go deliver them. Now, you must pick up the first order, go deliver it, THEN COME BACK TO THE SAME STORE to pick up the second order, then go deliver that! This is extremely inefficient. If the Roadie team can tweak these four areas, it will go back to being a 5-star app.

  • Roadie has become extremely greedy and not worth your time.

I have done more than 1,100 Roadie deliveries over the past three years. End of last year they cut the pay rates roughly 40%. Last week when the country started locking down cities they cut the rates another 35%, you know, to help drivers make less money at the exact time they need their income more than ever. Way to share the pain the country is dealing with during the carona virus! They also decided to change their terms of service to say that mileage reimbursement were already included in California deliveries because they are worried about being sued after AB5 law was passed regarding illegally designating workers as independent contractors. So imagine average 45 minute deliveries that used to pay a measly $17 now pay $8 and that amazingly includes mileage reimbursement which they have never ever paid in the past. What a greedy company improving their exploitation of the working poor. I encourage everyone to boycott this greedy company.

  • Can’t use GPS before accepting gig anymore

I do not like how you can’t use your GPS before accepting a gig to see exactly how far a starting and ending point is from your current location. The old Roadie app lets you do this! Please bring this back! This isn’t fair! That’s not something that should have ever been removed. This made me feel secure knowing that roadie was on our side for the drivers to not be hustled like other driver apps... when it comes to mileage and time, etc. I understand that it shows the location of the gig on the map... and the total mileage for the gig itself... but it helps MASSIVELY to know how far a gig is from my current location! Bring this back please!

Also... bring back our progress for badges! This made driving more fun and motivated me to keep driving in order to earn badges! I can’t find my badge progression anywhere in the new app! This was fun! Bring it back!
