What an utter shambles of an app. Now that I have managed to learn Rutter Magnificat (but not with the help of this app!) I can properly see how shambolic this app actually is! Nothing, NOTHING, is in the correct order: the track order jumps from Letter E (in Gloria Patti, mvmt 7) to letter B (anima mea, mvmt 1) to somewhere in Fecit Potentiam (mvmt 5) … but I only know this now, after the fact….
Another reason I moved to other learning methods was because I couldn’t actually hear the tenor part at all, even when the balance was fully set to R. The other parts are just too loud to decipher your note.

Dear Hanbag72, I am sorry the ChoraLine App did not help you with learning the notes for Rutter Magnificat. It may well be the settings on your device mixed up the tracks when moving them into the 'Downloads' section (so you can rehearse even when you have no WiFi/Internet connection) as we have since tested this rehearsal recording on several devices and all is working perfectly. The app has been such an invaluable tool for me as a relative newcomer to choral music. The ability to learn my part on my phone has meant I can easily practice anywhere when i get the chance. There are always sections of each piece of music I get stuck on and the loop function means I can really focus in on these parts and not waste time going over parts of the music I am comfortable with.Show lessChoirCal94

Please do try clicking the cog icon in the top right of the screen where you will find the feature which enables you to slow the music down - but retain the correct pitch - when learning those tricky fast sections. When I joined my choir four years ago, they planned to sing Messiah at Christmas. They had done this annually for years so in order to catch up I used Choraline to learn Messiah. It was a great tool and I was proficient enough within a month to be able to join my choir for the Christmas concert. Love the cues that come along to help you get ready for your part and the music for the other voice parts to help you know where you are in the music. The Ultimate
Prior to this app, I worked much harder to get through the difficult sections of choral music I was working on. I Bluetooth this to my stereo receiver and have instant help! I am very thankful for this device. My Beethoven Mass in C is much better for it!DaBarrister

I used ChoraLine to prepare for a recording session of the Messiah in Abbey Road studios. It was easy to go to the exact sections I needed to rehearse. Great confidence booster
Initially I was introduced to Choraline through my regular choir (Malvern Festival Chorus) and, once I found my way around, found it invaluable for really getting to grips with learning my part. More recently it’s been a number one support mechanism for getting my Messiah part embedded with the Self Isolation Choir.
It’s true the App is improving all the time, allowing many different ways for the user to absorb their part and improve confidence.
My only recommendation would be to make all the different operational modes more obvious to the browser (drop- down info box? ). Certain features I have only discovered by accident .e.g facility for controlling speed of playback) so hadn’t been using the app to its true potential.
Improving navigation would make it a no-brainer 5* app.

This is the best app ever for singers who want to be ahead of the game, or at least comfortable with it. I’ve moved a lot and consequently been the new choir member who hasn’t done the works they have, so usually need extra practice. I found Choraline and haven’t looked back since. Aw well as the brilliant music support, the staff are very, very helpful, speedy and bend over backwards to get you what you want, as quickly as possible. I’m a new user of ChoraLine. Recently, our choir The Self Isolation Choir performed all 20 choral movements of Handel’s Messiah. It was a huge challenge to rehearse, particularly for myself and probably other choristers who had not previously sung some of the lesser known movements. ChoraLine came to my rescue and I honestly could not have learned my voice part without it. The app is easy to install and use and the instructor uses clear and simple prompts to help you along. For Handel's Messiah there is special guide, in the Free Gifts section, on how to use the rehearsal recordings available on the App for the SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) voice parts. ChoraLine is a very effective way to learn your notes & to sing at the correct pitch and we would recommend you follow the steps below for learning Handel Messiah. We would recommend, if you have not sung Handel Messiah before, you start by using the ChoraLine 'With Singer' recording where you can hear the words and notes for your voice part sung perfectly by a professional singer. When you are feeling quite confident in your words and notes you can move onto the 'With Instrument' rehearsal recording to perfect and fine tune your notes and pitch. Handel Messiah is a wonderful piece of choral music to learn and when you come to sing it at your concert you will have the adrenaline rushing through you and when you finish have a fantastic sense of joy and elation. I will never forget the first time I sang Messiah and having sung it many, many times, have never for a single second tired of the wonderful story and music. This is the help that I have always needed for my choral singing and only found out about a couple of months ago. I find the option with the voice more helpful than just the instrument as you can be learning the words at the same time as the notes.
