Great confidence booster

Initially I was introduced to Choraline through my regular choir (Malvern Festival Chorus) and, once I found my way around, found it invaluable for really getting to grips with learning my part. More recently it’s been a number one support mechanism for getting my Messiah part embedded with the Self Isolation Choir.
It’s true the App is improving all the time, allowing many different ways for the user to absorb their part and improve confidence.
My only recommendation would be to make all the different operational modes more obvious to the browser (drop- down info box? ). Certain features I have only discovered by accident .e.g facility for controlling speed of playback) so hadn’t been using the app to its true potential.
Improving navigation would make it a no-brainer 5* app.

Choraline App

This is the best app ever for singers who want to be ahead of the game, or at least comfortable with it. I’ve moved a lot and consequently been the new choir member who hasn’t done the works they have, so usually need extra practice. I found Choraline and haven’t looked back since. Aw well as the brilliant music support, the staff are very, very helpful, speedy and bend over backwards to get you what you want, as quickly as possible. I can think of no downsides, only good ones.

Great range of classics

This app makes learning complex music so much easier now that rehearsals are all online. Thanks!

Hallelujah!

I’m a new user of ChoraLine. Recently, our choir The Self Isolation Choir performed all 20 choral movements of Handel’s Messiah. It was a huge challenge to rehearse, particularly for myself and probably other choristers who had not previously sung some of the lesser known movements. ChoraLine came to my rescue and I honestly could not have learned my voice part without it. The app is easy to install and use and the instructor uses clear and simple prompts to help you along. I can’t wait to use it again for our next concert.

Thank you ever so much for your review and we are delighted you found the App easy to use and to learn to sing your part in Handel's Messiah. For Handel's Messiah there is special guide, in the Free Gifts section, on how to use the rehearsal recordings available on the App for the SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) voice parts. ChoraLine is a very effective way to learn your notes & to sing at the correct pitch and we would recommend you follow the steps below for learning Handel Messiah. We would recommend, if you have not sung Handel Messiah before, you start by using the ChoraLine 'With Singer' recording where you can hear the words and notes for your voice part sung perfectly by a professional singer. When you are feeling quite confident in your words and notes you can move onto the 'With Instrument' rehearsal recording to perfect and fine tune your notes and pitch. Handel Messiah is a wonderful piece of choral music to learn and when you come to sing it at your concert you will have the adrenaline rushing through you and when you finish have a fantastic sense of joy and elation. I will never forget the first time I sang Messiah and having sung it many, many times, have never for a single second tired of the wonderful story and music. Thank you again and our very best wishes from us all at ChoraLine

I wish I had discovered this years ago!

This is the help that I have always needed for my choral singing and only found out about a couple of months ago. I find the option with the voice more helpful than just the instrument as you can be learning the words at the same time as the notes. I really can’t fault it and will be sure to get my part for everything I sing from now on.

Does not work on iPad Pro

Downloaded with the first 16 tracks missing. Support sent me the same automated reply 4 times. No help. I deleted and tried again. Same hopeless download. I have deleted the app and asked for a refund. Not happy. Not happy.

Sad little app created by amateurs who don’t know what they’re doing.

I downloaded the app and my first choice is to either join or log in with an existing account. I tried to join but got the message I already had an account. So I tried to back out and try what I guessed might have been the right log in. Only I couldn’t. You are locked into that screen OR you can go back to the App Store. No other options available. I tried to go to the help section as identified on the App Store page, but it just took me to their main business webpage with no obvious link to the help page. If you can’t get past the log in screen, you are dead in the water.

Amateur hour. In the worst way.

Great resource

I am an unconfident singer and Choraline is a great resource to help me feel on top of my line when rehearsing major worlds. I especially like the works that have a professional singer singing the lines as it helps with diction, inflection etc. The people at choraline were really quick to respond and help with my questions. Strongly recommend

The recordings are brilliant, the app not so much

The recordings from Choraline are an excellent resource, but the app is very primitive. I have found it much more useful to downloading the mp3 files and use an App like Anytune which is much more sophisticated.

UPDATE. Having had a response from the developers that say that their app is just fine and exactly what people want here are my detailed comments.

Issues

1. The slider to move through the music is clunky and imprecise
2. You can’t mark a particular set of bars for yourself for repeating and learning, you can only use the split they have given you and the clunky slider. This wastes a lot of time.
3. Breaking the music into chunks within a movement means that it is impossible to practice timing across one of those breaks because there is always a delay. I’ve had to stitch the mp3 files back together for that.

Good points

1. You can slow down the music to practice (as you can with other apps, the one I use is anytune but I’m sure there are others).
2. The narrator gives bar numbers a cues which are very useful (these are on the mp3 so are still available is you use the mp3 files in a different app)

Like I said, the recordings are very useful, the app is still very basic.

Response from developer

Thank you for your comment and we are pleased you find ChoraLine rehearsal recordings an excellent resource for choral singers who wish to practice and learn the notes for the music they are singing with their choir or choral society. During the development of the ChoraLine App we tested each stage with choral singers from three local choirs and the comments were always to make it as 'user friendly' and as 'easy to use' as possible - based on the feedback to date we believe we have achieved this aim. The tempo is based on the rehearsal piano accompaniment as set out in the guidelines in the vocal scores and the App has the facility to slow the music down when learning your notes for the faster sections and a loop function so you can practice over & over until you have perfected your part: - High quality audio produced by a BBC sound engineer - Hear your part played note-perfect on an instrument that's clear and prominent - The music is split into achievable sections, making it easier to learn at your own pace - A narrator calls out 'verbal signposts' to guide you throughout - For the most popular works (Handel Mesiah, Mozart Requiem, Faure Requiem, Carmina Burana, The Armed Man) you can learn by hearing your part sung to help with pronunciation of your words, rhythm and harmonies. _ The is also a Free Gifts section where you can hear samples of ChoraLine voice part rehearsal recordings for Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass for the first movement in Handel Messiah, And the Glory of the Lord.
