  • On the way to greatness, but with hiccups

    This app is pretty intuitive and I love how easy it is to set up devices with the onscreen instructions and built-in manuals.

    There are deficiencies, however, with regards to what you can do with a lot of their devices when writing automations. One example, is that you can't toggle notifications of sensors (motion, contact, etc) so that you're not pestered with them when you're at home.

    I've had to many create more automations as a workaround, which brings us to the 128 shortcut and/or automation limit.
    I wouldn't be hitting this limit if they just enrich the list of "actions" in automation.

    Another issue is scrolling hiccups – probably a result of having too many automations.

    If you have too many motion sensors going off frequently, you know, because your family is actually living in the building the sensors are installed in, you'll keep getting battery drain warning notifications about that per device! No way of turning it off.
    I have (custom) wired up a lot of my devices to 3v DC adapters so I'm not expecting power issues.

    Finally, regarding the company: I accidentally emailed their support team from a long-standing email address that never sends outgoing mail, just receives them. Within a week I'm bombarded with spam emails for the first time. They leaked my email address!!

  • A good app, but it could be improved.

    My cameras are linked in with Google Home, but the cameras do not show up in Google Home, so I use Tapo on my phone and iPad. I find the app intuitive, however I have two frustrations.

    First, my iPad Pro sits on a Magic Keyboard, and as the app forces the device to operate in portrait mode, it is cumbersome to use. Is there a reason why you do not permit the app to operate in landscape orientation? My wife’s Samsung Galaxy Tab s9 allows her app to operate in landscape view, so it is clearly possible. Please consider adjusting this for iPad use.

    My second frustration is that the app logs me out more readily than I would like. I find it bothersome that I need to use this app at all (as using Google Home would be ideal), but the fact that I need to sign in again to use the app is unnecessary.

    Aside from these two issues, the app is workable. It is reliable and intuitive to navigate.

  • Very happy with this camera Tapo C11

    I am no stranger to indoor and outdoor cameras as a regular consumer.
    I have a family and dogs and have tried numerous brands and different solutions and always seemed to be let down in certain situations like connectivity or reliability.
    I am very happy with Tapo C211 cameras. I bought those to try them on since they were on great sale and I’m telling you that they work great, very good quality and seem reliable when it comes to connectivity and notifications.
    I definitely recommend them.

  • Excruciating and infuriating!!

    Not sure if it’s the app, the camera (a C200) or Apple iOS that’s the root cause but whatever it is is driving me nuts. I lost count how many times I tried to add the camera and how many different settings combinations I tried and how much googling I did to find a solution. But I eventually managed to connect one camera. Now trying to add a second camera and it’s just same nightmare all over again. I’m giving the app 2 stars as once you get lucky and manage to get a camera connected, it’s an ok app. But getting to that point…all I can say is good luck.

  • Very user friendly

    I find this app very user friendly and everything works well - the timer schedule, energy monitoring etc. I'd recommend it.
  • Amazing!!!!

    I bought this camera to watch my kittens while
    My husband and I are at work. We have two dogs who have never been around such small kittens so we just wanted to keep a watchful eye on the kitty’s. We put them in our empty guest room and use this camera to peek in. One of the kittens does not use the litter box properly every time and one of them doesn’t get a lot of food bc he is pushed out of the way. This camera has allowed us to have such peace of mind when leaving our newly adopted babies. The quality is great and even the night vision is amazing!! I love the amount of features the camera offers and is so nice to be able to move the camera around to see the entire bedroom! Something our others camera do not have! Definitely will be buying a couple more of these for our house soon!!! If you’re debating on buying it, just buy it. You will NOT be dissatisfied!! Amazing quality and provides such peace of mind 🐈‍⬛🫶🏻

  • TP-Link's Tapo app: stable & mature

    Having some experience of different companies' home automation devices & apps, I can safely say Tapo is the best I've interacted with. The interface is clean & simple enough that anyone can use it, with advanced features accessible through a sensible, logical set of menus. The app is stable & feels mature. If you think this sounds like faint praise, you probably haven't had the misfortune of dabbing with some of the other home automation software out there.
    There's a clear sense that everything has been designed for simplicity & ease-of-use. There's the right amount of handholding for connecting new devices. Creating groups, rooms and automations (if you need or want them) is a breeze.
    Some companies' home automation software is a nightmare: buggy, wiggy, crashy or bloated, leaving you wishing the device you bought could be used without the excruciating pain of forced interaction with their awful, awful software. So congratulations TP-Link, I genuinely enjoy using your H/A software. Coupled to reasonably priced products & devices, you're miles ahead in the home automation space. H/A doesn't work without the software-based user interface and you hold a crucial competitive advantage thanks to the Tapo app.

  • Wyzecam replacement

    Have 3 Wyzecam V3’s which work ok but needed another camera to surveil the side of the house where the wifi enters. Need quick notification time in case someone cuts the line. This Tapo Magcam C425 seems to work as well as I could expect. The app found and automatically added the Kasa smart switch receptacle which is really great to minimize apps. As far as the camera goes I don’t think the battery is replaceable so when it no longer takes a charge the whole thing is toast. Hopefully this will be years. The Wyze outdoor battery pro has a replaceable battery pack but needs a hated subscription for features the Tapo app has for free.

  • Easy to use!

    This device was easy to set up. The installed app is also easy to navigate. I especially like how I was able to incorporate my kasa devices so that I only have one app to use. Setting up the camera with a new sod card was a breeze. All you have to do is put in the new sd card and the camera does the rest. Highly recommend this camera for anyone looking for a camera that gives quality images and easy to setup.

  • Terrible Design

    This is a terrible app. Constant nag screens about battery life. These cameras are on solar or AC power so the battery isn’t an issue. Get rid of these warnings. Why these cameras can’t be on constantly like real security cameras is a mystery. Sometimes one camera will run for an hour at other times it stops every few minutes. Ridiculous! Don’t bother with their overpriced Internet service. It actually works better if you just use it natively. I found the battery cameras that use a hub are more reliable than the Wi-Fi direct versions. There also seems to be a conflict with the Mac addresses, so I wasn’t able to use more than one WiFi camera of the same type without network conflicts. The battery hub cameras work the best but you’ll need to buy separate solar panels to keep the batteries charged, otherwise you’ll have to get a ladder take them down and charge them every month. It also takes about a day to get a full charge.
