  • Great! 🪺

This is definitely my fav birdwatching app out there! There is so many options even without the subscription and it is easy to record bird calls and take pics! This apps ID is almost always correct and it offers lots of information about each of the many bird types it has. The bird expert AI option is very helpful and provides as much info as you need. Although this is a great app, some of the birds are missing pictures! Other than that this is an awesome resource. Definitely recommend for all bird watchers!

  • First test

I just downloaded the app while I was inside my apartment. Just for fun and to see what happened, I aimed at a ceramic rooster that I have in my entertainment center (it’s stylistically designed). I didn’t even think about the little barn owl behind a candle that was also in the surroundings, but the app immediately recognized it and identified it correctly (even though it isn’t a live bird, but an accurately designed ceramic one)! I’m going outside later to see how the sounds are picked up. First test, I am thrilled with this app!

  • The built-in camera is not good

The camera within the app doesn’t really magnify the bird image as much as the advertising leads you to believe. I had to get close to my bird feeders in order to get any kind of identifying image. As much as I tried to enlarge the image while taking the picture, it wasn’t enough for me to see the bird clearly. It did make an identification, but the bird is tiny in the resulting photo.
The rest of the features in the app are really good and informative.
Amendment: If I use my iPhone photo app to take a picture of the bird I can zoom much closer to it, then import the photo into Picture Bird and use AI to sharpen it. This wasn’t clear when I first started using the app. So I might keep the app after all.

  • Pretty nifty app with a few exceptions…..

Works well when you have enough time to capture the image/sound. It would be nice if it had an instant zoom toggle for capturing images that are further out and when capturing sound, it’s not easy to isolate the bird you want identified from other birds in the background. Maybe add a feature where you can splice together recorded sounds so that it would identify the bird you’re trying to isolate. all in all it’s a good app though.

  • Unbridled Picture Bird

The accuracy and utility of this bird identification application amazes me again and again. As a wildlife photography enthusiast, I’ve had the occasion to research my subjects in depth. Picture Bird gives me far more detailed information than I could ever hope for, and has rarely, if ever, led me astray. My colleagues use similar apps which, when delivering suspect information, give me the opportunity to shine by correcting them. I highly recommend this bit of digital genius to any and all! …g

  • Not quite sure yet

I have used this app 3 to 4 times and I feel that two out of three were the same chirping as the actual bird. I know you do have to get close to the bird which is sometimes hard to do but overall I am very satisfied with what I have received. I also enjoy all the other information that comes along with the bird that you identified. I hope they don’t start charging soon for this app!

  • This is an amazing Program!!

I can’t believe the accuracy of this program. I took several pictures of birds in a willow tree 100 feet away with a hand held 200mm lens on a Nikon D3000. I enlarged the portion of the photo with the bird image, producing a very blurry picture of a Cardinal, a Blue Jay and a Mourning Dove. The program accurately nailed all three.

The ability to hear the songs and calls of the birds, as well as the ability to have the program identify birds by recording the song from your smart phone is an added bonus.

  • Such A Helpful App

This is such a cool app that I tend to tell everyone about! I use most of the other apps that are put out by MIT.

I love bird watching, and if I don’t have a clue about what I’m looking at I can just take a quick picture and identify it in seconds! And if I can hear the call of the bird, and I have no clue what I’m listening to, I can just take a 5 second audio clipping and most of the time I get the answers I need.

Even if the bird call is far away and you can barely hear it, the microphone tends to pick up most sounds….

  • Fun!

This app is so much fun! And it’s easy to use. Take a photo. Zoom in on the bird subject. App scans it, sharpens it and in seconds you know the species of bird. You can then save it to your Collection. The app guides you through each step. There also is a bird community in your area you can join for free. Share photos and info with fellow bird watchers in your neighborhood! This app has so many features I think the cost is well worth it.

  • Identified with just a feather

We found a large feather outside our house and we wondered what kind of bird lost it. We figured it was a bird of prey because of its size but which species? I didn’t expect this program to work on just a feather but gave it a shot and it immediately identified it as a Great Horned Owl!! This makes sense because we’ve seen a couple of them and heard many owls while hot tubbing at night. One really spooked my wife because he was sitting just 8-10’ directly above her on the edge of the roof staring at her for a long time. It was completely silent so it really startled her when she noticed it. She had no idea how long it was there before she realized it. They are truly shockingly enormous when so close.
