I really want to like this service/app. When I got my results, I thought they were helpful and interesting. And I was looking forward to taking more tests.
But then I received a notification that I had received results. And they were for a test I hadn’t taken. Weird.
I asked support about it, and the founder wrote me back to say their lab messed up. Someone else with the same name as me also signed up, and the lab attached the results to my account instead.
Two things happened:
1) They didn’t have protocols in place to attach results to an ID instead of a (relatively common) name.
2) Support actually disclosed the name that the errant results belonged to (even though it happened to be the same as mine), which strikes me as a privacy violation.
I had a back-and-forth over email with the founder/support but didn’t leave feeling assured about their privacy practices — possibly that they even violated some regulations, but I decided to leave that alone.
It’s too bad — I would have continued with them otherwise. I just don’t feel certain that my results wouldn’t be accidentally given to someone else. And that they might accidentally tell that person who they belong to.
