  • Has lots of potential, when it works

It’s great there’s a WebKit alternative to Safari. Especially one that can use Firefox or Chrome extensions like uBlock Origin and insist they do not include telemetry within their software.

However, I believe this browser has some distance to go before being ready for prime time. The app itself doesn’t feel as polished at the UI level.

The browser extensions on both desktop and mobile do not function as you would expect a native extension depending on the application, but it’s slowly improving. Ever so often something malfunctions which resorts to reinstalling extensions more often.

Frequently, this app crashes surrounding the use of the bookmarks feature. This issue has been reported, but was marked as not being able to be reproduced without help for providing follow up last I checked.

The aforementioned issues have caused me to go back to using Safari. I keep Orion around because of uBlock Origin support, and I hope in the future this app will improve since I believe there are a lot of good ideas contained in this app.

  • The best

I decided to give this browser a try after Brave completely imploded with new IOS update. Bless whoever recommended this browser to me. It has 0 of the bugs that were making Brave unusable. I love that it works like Safari so I can add links directly to my home page. The best part was that I was able to add Firefox extensions to it. Ublock and Sponsor Block works perfectly on it. Love it and it’s now my default browser.

  • Not ready for prime time

I tried Orion for a month as my primary browser, but unfortunately I had to stop for two reasons.

    1. It locks up a lot. Not while using, but when you use a different app and switch back to it. I have to force kill the app and restart. This happens 5+ times a day.

    2. It forgets what pages were open. This was the big one. For some reason a lot of the time it backs up a page in history when starting or resuming the app, losing the page that was previously loaded. This bug is very obvious when i find a number of my tabs are on the Start Page and there is no forward history. Worse, the previous pages aren’t in global History, either.

I hope these issues can be fixed because I would like to use Orion again.

  • Everything it claims, nothing more.

Truly is fast and secure and private. Needed: Easier transition tools: Import Bookmarks from other browsers. Import Logins and Passwords from other browsers. Import Extensions from other browsers. Basically, make it easy to move to Orion. This is the only reason I keep going back to Safari. All my stuff is there. Other: Selective image loading. Allow for example a search page result set to show images or a certain set of websites.

  • Nice and well thought of

I have been using brave for a while but due to some updates I changed to Orion and it was a very good decision. One complaint I have is that whenever I want to open Reddit links on the browser the tab just freezes, I can’t scroll down or interact with it, I have to open it using the app which I don’t want to cause I don’t want it on my Reddit feed.

Overall really good with just a little minor bug.

  • I really want to like this browser.

Extensions are buggy. Wanted to download FF uBlock Origin but the user agent failed and stopped working. Even delete / reinstall did not reset it. Downloaded the extension file and installed, but tried changing settings and they’re blank. Tried switching off dark mode but that didn’t help. Will keep it around for a while and hope the issues get addressed.

Update: The more I use this browser, the better I like it. I appreciate all the work that’s gone into it. Still cheesed off about the broken user agent. And the “private” flag is still showing even with tabs I don’t open as such. Still, it’s a solid effort.

  • Promising New Browser

Honestly I am very impressed with this browser and surprised I haven't heard others talking about it. I've used Safari and Firefox previously; however, Orion is faster, more stable, and more feature rich than both. There are a few things I would like to have added, feature parity wise, but overall the app is great, the devs are responsive and friendly, and it offers a new welcoming browser opportunity to IOS users.

  • Good

This browser and the ad-blocking are really good, in fact this is the fastest Web-kit based browser I have found on iOS with ad-blocking enabled. But there are two major problems with the ad-blocker that I think are lacking which can be found on other browsers or extensions:

    1) The lack of country-specific ad-blocking. Unfortunately, when I open any website that is not in English, I see a lot of ads squeezed through.

    2) The ad-blocker is not good in blocking annoyances on the Internet. For example, those “Switch to the App” pop ups and banners can still be found even when switching the ad-blocker state to Full.

And lastly, I think a proper fingerprinting resistance option in the browser would be really solid.

  • Nice

This is an attractive browser and seems very fast. Tracking protection by default, although I wish there was an easier way to clear cookies on exit. You can use it with the search engine of your choice, but if you hate ads like I do, try it with Kagi search from the same developers - paid search for a modest monthly fee and no ads in search results. Breath of fresh air.

  • Worth using, but kinda wonky

Animations are rough in places, keyboard comes in at a low frame rate, tabs are laggy. Tabs will save, but will all say “Start Page,” requiring a reload. Add-ons barely work. Can’t even use ad blockers like uBlock for Firefox.

The big reason to stick around: custom apps. I can click a Reddit link, it’ll take me to Apollo. No question, no pop ups, just does it seamlessly.

I’m willing to deal with jank, that’s a killer feature that made it earn my default choice.
