No Text Size Customization?!?
Response from developer
Hey there! Firstly I want to apologize for this unfortunate misunderstanding. We do care a lot about our users with disabilities, and understand that readability is an important concern. That’s why Craft has a built-in Zoom feature, to increase your document‘s text size across the board. On iOS and on the Mac trackpad you can just pinch to zoom, on Mac you can also access it via the “View” menu or with “Cmd +” / “Cmd –“ keyboard shortcuts. It offers 12 zoom levels in addition to the default. We think this offers a better experience than just increasing the font size, as it increases all text sizes across the board. What we don’t currently offer, as our team pointed out, is the ability to customize text sizes for general formatting, as we want to keep writing simple. With Zoom, we rather give you and any other readers the option to choose yourself what’s a comfortable text size for your eyes. Let us know if you have any other accessibility-related feedback! /Moritz at Craft
I don’t normally write reviews but…
Very nice app, unsure free tier enough to keep it

The Only App That Works
Game Changing
Beyond school, I also use Craft to run my RPG club campaign. It has been perfect for sharing documents on how to build characters in Genesys, distributing character sheets, resources, maps, and providing updates after each session. Recently, I’ve started using it with my friends to collaborate on a world we are creating while playing.
Craft is very easy to use, beautifully designed, and intuitive. The only feature I wish it had was the ability to create columns of text without using tables on some pages. This might be possible, but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Regardless, Craft is a seriously amazing app!
I love it! The syncing is amongst the fastest I’ve seen and the UI is beautiful
My only complaint are:
- no underline option for formatting.
- the CMD+ doesn’t work to zoom on Mac.
- The preview of documents on the homepage doesn’t update properly.
As for features for the future, I recommend adding flashcards and something similar to the obsidian canvas plugin. But otherwise, I switched to craft entirely. For university notes, it’s near perfect and I do enjoy using it.
Great app
Genuinely recommend, a great app. Extremely customisable to let your pages be formatted the way you want.
Non-standard Mac App in a bad way
Craft has plenty to offer, and I am fairly heavily invested in it because of that, and I wouldn't be so frustrated by an app that wasn't actually useful. But I am quite disappointed by how it has evolved over the last couple years.
For instance, the early 2024 revamp of navigational/organizational features was a ray of hope for the first time in ages … with so many other updates devoted to collaboration and cross-platform features that are meaningless to this user.
Unfortunately, the "organizational" update made Craft worse for me in multiple ways. They added complexity without clarity. Inconsistent, odd UI conventions are the biggest theme. Like the almost perfectly undiscoverable way sidebar view toggle between "folder" and "document" mode: no labels and or menu commands, triggered only by clicking on tiny low-contrast cryptic symbols …or by a trackpad swipe?! It's not the worst
The app is full of controls and commands like this: novel, "clever" ones that usually aren't in any menu at all (not even a contextual menu).
It’s particularly maddening trying to work with notes in a list (so, you know, practically every organizational task). The Mac has had good, standardized UI conventions for list views and item management for decades. The Craft dev team largely ignores them, and just getting a great deal wrong, and the result is a confusing mess.
Craft was great, kinda just ok now.
Sadly the last year or so the interface and usability hasn’t been great. It has followed the trajectory of many other apps/websites in trying to leverage unnecessary AI stuff (I really didn’t want to use it), and tripping over itself when it comes to UX.
The sidebar navigation is a bit inconsistent (I swear it’s redesigned every 3 months), visual cues are often hidden too well, and things just don’t feel intuitive anymore. Maybe my eyes are getting old though.
You could tell at some point in the last year they decided to pivot the app from a personal tool to one catering to enterprise/business customers as well (eg. Excessive parts of the interface are about collaborating, with no opt out option).
Additionally, I had to cancel my (legacy) subscription due to personal financial reasons, and the recent (~50%) price hikes have meant that I can't afford to come back when things are better.
Funnily enough, it’s still the best note taking app I’ve used; perhaps if you’re a power user or part of a team all using it, you’d like it. Just doesn’t feel like its for an average jo like me anymore.
