For me to write a review I must be furious because usually product failure does not bother me enough to make a rant online. However this app and this product is so awful that it enrages me that it’s even on the market and accessible for purchase. I have bought multiple Vivitar card readers that have broken without any damage by myself. They just gave out on me. The app itself has so many bugs it’s impossible to retrieve any content on it. This go around I can’t even see my pictures let alone download them. God forbid you want to download multiple at once, the app panics and shuts down like an eighty pound middle school quarterback with any sort of pressure. That last sentence probably took away any professionalism and legitimacy this review has from a prospective buyer’s eyes. However, what I am saying is spot on. If you can’t see it from my review I’m sure the other few hundred poor reviews will point you to a happier direction of spending your money elsewhere. Take care and save your money.

The app and device is ok overall… but it definitely needs improvement… if you select an image or whatever from ur camera roll, you have the option to send to ur reader, like you’d do if you were gonna send an image in a message… but yet you can’t… if you try. Selecting images and videos is tedious since you have to individually select each image… this app needs updated so that you can drag and select multiple images/videos/files at once… also with that being said, if you happen to set ur finger/stylus down too long on the screen while selecting images… you lose all of ur selections, and gotta start over this needs updated or improved as well… maybe by a prompt screen asking if you wanna cancel all ur selections… Please make these improvements. They’re definitely necessary in streamlining the app.
  • Suggestion and question

Developers… you should make it that you are able to drag select the files/images/videos that you wanna move. Also, if there is a way to send the files/images/videos to the reader, straight from the phone… what is it? The app shows if I select an image from my Camera Roll, and and then select the square with the upward arrow. When you click that, a window appears with the file list and two selections up top… cancel or confirm. Only problem is, “Confirm” is greyed out.
  • Won’t Connect

The connector came with a lightning cable connector to connect it to my iPad, but it didn’t work. The instructions led me to try millions of different ways but it only wound up working in my phone. When I went to click on certain pictures to download from my camera, it only gave me a few of the photos I had selected. I had to go back to the app many times to get the photos into my photo library on my phone. I had even asked my mom for help and she could not figure it out despite being very skilled with technology. It was not the best at all and I do not recommend in the slightest.
  • Complicated central

First of all, I downloaded the app. THATS fine I don’t mind doing that. I am on perfectly good wifi, it won’t connect from my phone. So I got on my Mac…the app cannot be downloaded on Mac. I plugged it up and I was able to click on an icon that pulled up nonetheless. Click it, and oh dear Lord you have to be kidding me. I had to click on each photo individually. Double clicking each photo, saving it, then having to exit out the photo and REPEAT. Took me nearly 2 hours of just SAVING the dang photo. I wish I would have read reviews before buying this. Definitely do your research and find what’s best for you. This obviously ain’t it.
  • Does not work AT ALL

The device works fine when attached to my Windows laptop. But this app shows NOTHING on my microSD card when attached to my iPad. I have formatted the card two different ways, and this makes no difference. There is no documentation, no explanation. There is no indication even of a way to move files from my iPad onto my microSD card - files on my iPad are never shown. There are no error messages. It just doesn’t work.

I have rarely been so completely disappointed and outraged by a product as I am with this one. If you’re reading this it is probably too late for you, but DO NOT BUY THIS DEVICE if you hope to use it with iOS/iPadOS.

I will keep this app installed for a while to see if it is ever updated and/or ever works in any way at all, other than as a waste of space on my iPad. I am not holding my breath.
  • Stopped working with Iphone 15

Vivitar app used to work with my Iphone 15 type c then it stopped working all of a sudden. The app used to automatically load when I plug it in but now it does nothing. Bummer because I use it for work to download videos to be broadcast on TV. The lightening cable work fine with a different iPhone. Can this be fixed?
  • DONT USE THEIR PRODUCT

I’ve got the universal card reader for Christmas and I was only able to use it once because for some reason when I plug it in I can’t get anything off of it so I called the corporate number just to find out that I can’t work on the current iOS system, but it’s compatible with the current iPhone……? I was told on the phone that can only work up to like iOS 13 that is a joke include her whole company as a joke I will be returning this, and I will be letting everyone know not to waste of money on the card readers.
  • I never write reviews but this was so bad I had to

I bought this card reader after losing two other ones and assumed it’d work like any other: you plug it in, iOS sees it and allows you to import photos and you go on your merry way. Not so with the Vivitar! You have to install this extremely poorly-made app to even access the contents of your card. However, heaven help you if your photos are anything other than jpegs (i.e. raw files). The app won’t let you save any raw files to the camera roll, claiming that iOS only supports jpeg, png, and a couple video formats. The app doesn’t even let you preview the images. You CAN save the files to the “documents” section of the app (again, without previewing them), and you could theoretically save them to iOS’s files app from there, BUT, dear reader, Vivitar’s crack developers have disabled the “share” button if more than one photo is selected making you have to individually select each file and save it to iOS’s Files app.

I would give this less than one star if I could. I’ll be returning the card reader and ordering something that works. A real bummer that it doesn’t just use the native iOS import functionality.
  • Spend the extra $$ for an apple reader

This is terrible. As a photographer who edits a lot on the go, I never have any luck viewing my images to quickly edit and send sneak peeks to my clients. I can’t transfer anything to Lr and it takes to much time to download to my camera roll, export, edit and export and by then the image quality is so compressed that it looks like I took from some where else. Bad app. Terrible card. Just spend the money for an apple reader.
