  • Probably the best dry fire training app/system out there.

The best $150 you’ll spend on dry fire training. Ingenious app recognizes many different Mantis target types, including IDPA and USPSA! The app accurately detects shots based on your distance from the targets. I practice at least 150 shots per day. In the first week alone, my accuracy increased immeasurably. My trigger pull is ridiculously smoother and more consistent. This app and system alone has improved my speed and accuracy more than anything else I’ve ever done and did it in one week. I’m still making progress each week, but that first week was eye opening.

The only feature lacking is a daily shot counter so I don’t have to go through the log and count up my shots manually from each exercise completed in a day. It only tells you by bar graph if you reached your daily shot goal or not. I want to see my daily shot count as I practice. Otherwise I’d give it 5 stars.

  • Useless

Update to my last review (I don’t see it anywhere)

This app is stuck in calibrating now , couldn’t of possibly imagined it could have become more useless than before (unable to detect target and detects shots with no shots have been fired)
  • Works only in very dim light

I’m very surprised by all the positive reviews. When using the app with an iPhone 13 Pro, if the ambient light is anything but very dim, the target either shows up on the screen covered with red spots, meaning the app can’t identify a laser hit on the target, or it registers random hits without any laser hits at all. In fact, the light has to be so dim that it’s functionally worthless. Forget about using it outdoors. I searched their website and tried adjusting the camera settings — no useful information and no improvement. A general web search shows others also have this problem. I strongly recommend you test the app before you spend any money on this company’s app or their “systems.”

    Developer Response

This is a primarily a camera issue--shutter must be open as much as possible in order to not miss a laser flash. We've made a new product called Phone Shades to address this: https://mantisx.com/products/laser-academy-phone-shades If you have further trouble, please send details to our customer support so that we can address the issue: https://mantisx.com/pages/contact-us
  • Better than expected.

I just got this yesterday and haven’t gotten into the more complex drills yet, but I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of feedback. I put the target on the dining room wall on one side of the house and was able to fire from the living room on the other side about 7 yards away. With Bluetooth headphones I could hear the score of each shot immediately and by mirroring my phone display on the TV, I could glance over and see exactly where it hit the target. Had a live fire session at the range today and can already see an improvement.

  • Motivation for getting better

Could have more info in the Instructions guide, like what shoot flash white option means. And 1 day statistics for when I shoot a lot, like the Mantis app has.
    Otherwise quite precise
  • Notes

I would love the opportunity to add person notes to the history. Weather it’s from a covered draw, concealed draw, what gun/holster arrangement. Maybe be able to catalog, track and evaluate different setups.
  • Like it a lot… but…

I do like the laser academy with the accompanying targets and apps. And it makes sense that one would have to zero the point of aim with the laser’s point of “impact”. But the calibration function is frustrating. It would be nicer if it would take an average of some number of shots rather than just one. Also, trying to align the “point of aim” with something I’m aiming at seems futile at best and is especially annoying when the instructions obscure the point of aim bullseye.

It also doesn’t seem to have a feature to set a firearm. So, the history is not very useful. The mantis X app has the ability to have separate history buckets for each firearm. This app should have that feature as well.

  • Still no sound after a year

There’s a thread on Reddit where people aren’t getting sound unless headphones are plugged into their iPhone or iPad. I still have this issue and that thread is a year old. I don’t know how you have bugs like this in an iPhone app when iPhones aren’t customizable, but here we are.
  • Lovely app for beginner shooters

First day using the app and I am quite enjoying it. Only my first day so I haven’t had any difficulties if any are to come. Great app if you are looking to practice on shooting techniques. It is helping a lot with the breathing and being surprised when pulling the trigger. Not doing it for a competition and just to make myself a better shot. It’s enjoyable.

  • Love it

Been using about a week and seeing great improvements in grouping and a accuracy. Love it. Highly recommend. Recommend you buy or download the targets. Great fun.
Also have one of their 9mm laser bullets. So far over 500 shots w no issues.
