Can it be free for students?

I’m going to be a freshman in college and I’ve been looking for apps that might help me stay more organized vs having to find them while I’m in college and change my entire workflow. However, I no longer have the luxury of a heavy cash flow to pay for app subscriptions. I wish we could have a free plan for students who desperately need professional tools like this but can’t afford them. Many companies do this and I think this’d be a great way to advertise your app and company. I did buy a physical planner but am not sure how much use it’ll get as I often loose interest in them after a couple months and wanted to try something new on my iPad Pro. However, as cheap as the subscription is I don’t want it slowly chipping away at my monthly allowance. I’m only going to keep this app if we can have a free student plan or a one time purchase plan because in that case I’d DEFINITELY buy this!! The wealth of features and flexibility amazes me and this app definitely seems underrated but my only qualm is the subscription. Please add more subscription and purchase models. Thank you!!

Sorry to hear that! Please reach out at support@pencilplanner.app and we help you resolve the issue. It's likely the case you aren't using an Apple Pencil and need to double tap the draw tool and enable "Draw with finger"

Wow

Something that I am trying to do is write more reviews and provide some good feedback. Let me start by saying thank you. I was talking to my brother and wife about six months ago for an app like this. I was told that it would not take off and would not work. I was crushed and did not pursue. Let me say that I am extremely proud of how you have integrated apple calendar. I think this is the best blend for people who want to have a dedicated calendar with the use of their Apple Pencil. My only complaint is that this is subscription based. I would have preferred to have the option of a one time payment for life. I would also like to see that for the year option that it may be broken up into blocks perhaps looking on Etsy and some of the digital planners for template or ideas. I think this app has a lot of hope and I am a believer so much that I called my work friend and he bought the app immediately. This app has the opportunity to change peoples lives and it has changed mine. Thank you for the app and cannot wait to see the updates.

Thanks for the feedback and the support! We understand the natural hesitation with a subscription. This model is to ensure we can continue to provide the best experience possible, and we are refining it over time. We are also working hard to ensure that even if a subscription lapses all the entered content will still be accessible to every user.

Awesome concept and constantly improving!

I’ve tried to integrate using my iCal app along with my personal planner for years. While I love getting notifications, writing out my to-do’s is the only way I feel organized. The Pencil Planner app is the first interface which allows me to combine the best of both worlds. Though it’s fairly young compared to other apps, I feel as though this is a great fit for anyone who needs the writing aspect to their planning. I even sent a question/recommendation to the Pencil Planner team and the next update had my suggestion incorporated. Overall, I’m very impressed and would recommend to anyone :)

This is good, but they removed a function I found useful

You can longer click on a day or week to go to it without toggling modes. You used to be able to write and navigate simultaneously. Now they have a navigate mode and a note mode. It makes no sense as to why they would do this.

There’s a glitch in the new update. If you go straight to the weeks view and select the eraser and then draw in the all day field (the one that syncs with day and month) it will write with the peg on the first stroke. It then carries the bug over to day And month modes. Drawing on the month calendar with the eraser created a pen stroke on the first one before swapping to the eraser function. It does this very each day’s box.

The change to a less streamlined, more inconvenient mode of use combined with the introduction of a bug and no positive features makes me question if a subscription with this company is warranted. I’m leaving it at 4*, even though I think I’m going to abandon this app. I can’t help but picture giving them money for a subscription having them rollout more “fixes” that make it less and less usable.

Thanks for the review and feedback! You'll be happy to know everything you describe is fixed in an update coming in the next day or so - keep an eye out for 1.0.5. If there is any other feedback you have or issues you run into, please reach out at support@pencilplanner.app

Great tool! Saves trees

This app seems made for iPad and was just what I’ve been looking for to replace my old method of paper planner. Some obvious benefits over the paper method being able to change pen color, erase with ease and tap on a date in the monthly view to reveal more detail. A few changes for the future I’d like are a feature to move an appointment to a different time slot (tap and drag). Also I synced with my iPhone and have some problems there but it is probably my fault. I use my iPad to write out the plan and use my phone for easy reference. But since the screen is much smaller I have more than once accidentally scribbled on or erased a calendar entry that I was trying to view. With no undo button on my phone I was stuck having to manually fix the mess. Is there a setting for “view-only”? And for some reason my phone would only allow me to view the calendar in portrait mode, no landscape. Overall I love the app and will continue to use as well as recommend to others.

Good for work

Good App for integrating my online calendar with my notes from my diary. Great that I can use my Apple Pencil, it makes becoming paperless easier. Would prefer if I could change the modules for each day, for example would like to be able to make the diary section wider and would like to be able to add small sections for info I might need that day instead of it being all ‘to do section’. A section for writing the extension numbers I need would be useful, these are usually on the back of the front cover of my paper diary. I have added them to the ‘ongoing to do’ section but it would be nice if I could personalise it a bit more or the titles of each section as I’m not a fan on the reflect section, but that’s just personal preference.

Just keep want me to pay

I like the ability to write my calendar so I want to try out the app. But before I even finish writing the first letter, it kept telling me to pay and view plans. I don’t feel like paying something I don’t even know. It makes me feel uncomfortable so delete right away

Response from developer

Sorry to hear you were unsatisfied! Note that there is a 3 day free trial provided to anyone who wants to try risk free. Cancel any time before the 3 days are up to continue to have access during the trial period.

Is going pro worth it?

Going pro is totally worth it, being able to write in my calendar events instead of type, being able to add whatever I want in, is super convenient and makes planning fun.
It’s super handy that it syncs up to my iPhone calendar so I can keep track of all my events!!!

Thanks for the review, and we agree 100%! ❤️

Almost perfect!

I am a high school assistant principal and this app has finally helped me make the switch to digital planning. I still have to switch to a note taking app once the daily notes page runs out of space (happens nearly every day), and I would like to be able to search my handwriting (like I can in OneNote), but these are the only things keeping it from being my one stop shop. Extra note pages are on the roadmap, along with other excellent looking features.
