Not joining X to contact support

This app is great and allows a lot of customizations. But a couple of things need to me fixed:
1. I tried avoiding writing a review so that I might be able to improve the rating I give after I hear from the writer/support. I could not find a way to contact support through the app so I went to the App Store. When attempting to contact support through the App Store I am taken to X (Twitter). I am NOT creating an x account to contact the writers. So a not so great review they get for now.
2. When I add an item to my list that I already have in stock, it lets me know. That’s great but when I by the item or stock the item, I want the app ask me if I want to replace the existing in stock item or if I want to add to the existing stock. Currently it just adds to. If it’s an item like lettuce, I might buy a fresh bunch weekly.
3. When I stock an item I just purchased, the app puts it in my Bar storage, alphabetically the first storage the app finds. If the item is an item that has previously been stored, it should put it in the previous storage. If it’s an item that is new to the app, it should either prompt me to choose a storage or put it in some sort of undefined storage so I can choose storage later.
4. In my kitchen-fridge storage, I have an open item that I can neither mark as consumed or throw. When I swipe right to left, the consume a product screen appears but save is grayed out. If I choose to throw the product, save is also grayed out. If I choose to edit the product and change the quality to zero, save grays out.

Search results with substorage

This app seems to do mostly what I want it to do. I do have a request though. If I have several storages and substorages like shelves in a couple of refrigerators, if I search for chicken, the results show the substorage but not the root storage where that is located. Lets say you have two refrigerators that each have 4 shelves. I could have a root storage of refrigerator 1 and refrigerator 2. Then each root storage would have shelves 1-4. If I search for chicken lets say, I will get results like shelf 2, shelf 3 but I don't know which shelf belongs to which root storage. I would like it if it showed root storage-substorage to make it clear where the item is.

No Two Way Sync

Setup shared freezers with my wife but only changed I make, as owner, are reflected on both. If my wife makes a change or addition, that change is not made on my side. Could be great app but needs 2 way synchronization.

Top Freezer/Pantry app by miles

I started looking for a freezer app because I purchased some food labels which had a dedicated QR code; the label supplier had an app but is pretty dreadful. I then searched for an alternative and after several downloads and deletions I finally found FoodShiner - and it is free as I write this review. It does it all or certainly all I need. I can now use either my QR Code labels or the product Bar Codes. So a donation went off to the owner of the app to show my appreciation.

Perhaps the only food with Shortcuts integration

I want to thank you for making the shortcut integration.

I’d request you please add more options into this.

Like, adding a feature to select certain food items from a list. - there seems to be an option present, but it’s only returning list name and not items presents inside the list itself.

This is great feature for someone, like me, why is just providing the ingredients to ChatGPT app and its give me step by step instructions to check a simple breakfast.

Right now I am only able to send the entire list or soon to be expired. It would be great is there is a way to select the ingredients and upload to the ChatGPT app as input.

You guys are life saver to me. Saves me so much time. Helps me get started with different mix of smoothies and healthy breakfast and helps me lose weight.

Thank you for your work.

Love, love, love this app!!!

Would give it 10 stars if I could. 😀 function rich with ability to inventory your food in whatever location it is in the house, set status to show an item is open (and how much used if useful) and whether you’ve ending up throwing it away or eating it, set an alert to flag when it’s going out of date (including adjusting date if opening affects life), and push to a shopping list either automatically or manually. Then use the list to check off when bought and move that item to storage. And easy to share with the other half so we both manage it (although it would be great to do a share of all storages/shopping lists in one go rather than share each storage location/list individually).

It takes effort to set up (depending on how much food you have) but so worth it. For the first time I was able to check in real time at the supermarket if I had an item already and therefore avoid buying it unnecessarily

Plus it’s free, but well worth the ‘tip’ that I paid to them to acknowledge how happy I am with this app. Bravo to the developers and thank you so much for allowing me to get so organised 😂😂

Great

Finally an app that offers desired functionality with no subscription, and it's decently customisable.

Thank you so much.
Only downloaded yesterday so am still getting to grips with it. Wanted a database to help prevent forgotten items lurking in a garage chest freezer and wasted.
Looked at a few ‘recommended’ apps, but they all seemed to want to gather/sell on data and have links to 3rd parties/tracking across all media. A definite no from me.
Then I came across this one. Wow. A breath of fresh air. No tracking, hopefully simple to use and no ‘bells and whistles’. So thank you so much. Seems just what I need. Have only added a few items so far as I want to understand the process before letting loose. But, cautiously, looks brilliant, and if it saves wasted food then should be adopted by everyone.

Just Gets Better

I started using FoodShiner a few months ago. I really liked it, and sent the largest tip, but still found a few things that bothered me plus some bugs in the Mac app. The developer was extremely friendly and responsive, and rather promptly fixed the issues with an update. You can’t ask for more, especially from an essentially free app.

This app is extremely flexible, allowing organization and display of data in various useful ways. The notifications are excellent. There’s nothing else out there that comes even close to FoodShiner. One competing app that looks kind of decent has apparently been abandoned by its developer according to user reviews.

About the only remaining change I’d like to see in FoodShiner is the ability to reorder the list of storages (Freezer, Fridge & Pantry).

I encourage people to try the app and send a tip to reward the developer’s excellent work.

Response from developer

Hello RCL2, Thank you for using FoodShiner and with that trying to prevent food waste! I'm honestly overwhelmed by your outstanding review and really touched. FoodShiner already offers the ability to reorder list in the overview, just long tap on a list and with help of drag and drop you can change its order. In the embedded help manual (accessible from the overview), then in FAQ section there is also a clarification about how to reorder lists. If you have questions, ideas for future development or even problems on using FoodShiner don’t hesitate to contact me via support@foodshiner.app. Best regards Idriss M'Rabti

Love this app!!

This app makes it possible to easily keep track of foods, quantities, and expiry dates. Not only does it mean I no longer lose things at the bottom of my freezer, but when I’m at the grocery store, I know 100% whether I’m out of something or not. Less wasted food, better planning!

One tweak I’m really hoping to see in an update is the ability to choose the quantity when using the “move” function. For instance if I have 10 chicken breasts in the chest freezer, I’d like the option to move 4 of them to the fridge freezer. Currently, I have to delete them from one and re-enter them in the other location. (“Consume” allows you to choose the quantity, so I’m really hoping that “move” will follow suit!)
