  • Terrible voice recognition

I get you want to have accurate shaping of the pronunciation of the words you’re learning but there’s zero feedback in why something isn’t being accepted. Frequently I’m getting words rejected and sometimes when I try to repeat a phrase it’s different words in the phrase that are being rejected. I’ve tried using the app una very quiet place ti ni avail. Same results. It’s extremely frustrating to always be focused on whether or not the app is going to accept the words or not rather than focusing on the language learning. Also when I arrow my ti review the missed words at the end of the lesson the app completely freezes. Nothing works. I’m using an iPhone 14 pro. This isn’t a hardware issue. I made the mistake of prepaying for the lifetime subscription during the holiday sale. I will be asking for a refund. It’s unusable.

  • Updating to 4 stars!

I really appreciate the dedication the developers have for improving this app. The content is great and they are making big gains in voice recognition. I like that now you can tap to hear what phrases are supposed to sound like, but unfortunately the app still misses some of the words you’ll say for no apparent reason. That is very frustrating : )

Developers, get that word recognition to 100% and give me a pronunciation report card and you’ll have me as a customer for life!

  • Great but needs refinement

I’m a paying subscriber and use it to learn Spanish. I’m an intermediate Spanish speaker and have used it in a job for over a year and a half and so I am keenly interested in improving my pronunciation.

The basic learning structure of this app is great and it certainly has a lot of potential. There are three areas where it needs to improve to deserve a 5 star rating. The first two areas are frustrating. First, the app’s ability to hear words is limited and it frequently claims that I did not say words that I definitely said. Second, when your in the review stage of a lesson the app often freezes for 5 to 10 seconds before letting you attempt to pronounce a sentence. Lastly, the app does not provide a rating of your ability to pronounce. For the app to truly shine it needs to correct the technological failures and provide a detailed analysis of how you’re pronouncing a language correctly and incorrectly. The detail progress report is particularly important because it’s hard to maintain motivation to without feedback on your progress.

I hope my review helps the app’s developers focus their efforts. This app could be something incredible if it rapidly and accurately measured and assessed pronunciation.

  • Potential? Yes; Execution? No

This app has great potential for teaching someone Spanish. Fun whimsical scenarios keep it interesting.

The problem is the execution! I wish I had not paid $44 for 3 months.

The app freezes and frequently needs to be shutdown and restarted. Trying to learn when it doesn’t work is pretty frustrating.

The app doesn’t say pronunciation back to you no matter how many times you’ve got it wrong. Keep saying wrong and getting Nice try. No matter how many times you say it wrong in a row the likelihood you are going to stumble upon the correct pronunciation is between slim and none… because at some point you’re going to be using a different language venting your frustration.

In the review (after the lesson) the sound button doesn’t more 3/4 of the time before it freezes and forces you to restart but passes you on the lesson no matter how well or poorly you did.

There are certain words in the scenarios no matter how many times you say them, change pitch or inflection, loud or quiet, hold your device close to your face or far away and it simply does not recognize you are saying the words. For instance ¿Què? Or any word that follows it. I could say the entire sentence and the app tells me I said one word.

  • Huge delay in mic

There is so much to like about the platform and what they have developed so far, BUT… is it really a conversation app if I have to wait 10 seconds between responses for the mic to load?

I also wish there was a way to uncover/cover translations (at least in the immersive part) so that I can see if I understand before just reading it (maybe it changes as you progress and I haven’t gotten far enough?). Currently I have been attempting to cover translations with my thumb when reading the Spanish part meant for me, but it seems like I should t have to since I pay for the app.

But more importantly: THE MIC (specifically on the front end of the response, not necessarily they assessment of pronunciation)

    Developer Response

Hi there! Thanks so much for your feedback. 1. Regarding translations, if you head over to 'Settings' (top right) when you're inside the conversation, you can remove translations showing up by default so you can practice without using it. 2. We're constantly improving the speed of our speech recognition/mic interactions, and working on some new releases to make this better for you soon :-)
  • Great app and idea but a little buggy

I find this is a great app to supplement Duolingo and keep practicing phrases with a cool chat bot. My only complaint is the app is a bit buggy often crashes on me at the end of lessons which is a bit frustrating.
  • I Have No Idea Clue

I wouldn't know how this program is. I tried to sign up to try it and get an "unexpected error." I got the gmails stating the app usurped permissions, but it doesn't sign in. I have to admit, this is a first for me; where a Trial app that's incredibly expensive (should you decide to go with the subscriptions) gives errors right off the bat. Not the best way for a first impression. I'm beginning to think all the positive reviews are paid reviewers or employees. Zero stars if it were possible to give.
  • Lotta potential but buggy

I tried to message customer support but it only allows contact through Facebook and the message won’t send.

I started using the app recently and while I think it has a lot of great potential I find it really buggy. It doesn’t recognize things I say correctly and gets stuck in a loop during review so I have to force quit.

Also I find the mic activation so slow that it doesn’t allow for good pacing during a conversation.

Is there a way to fix these issues? Otherwise I’ll probably just cancel and ask for a refund. Thanks!
  • Nice concept - but need to smash some bugs

I like the speaking aspect and the engagement of the user. I think there is a great market for this however this will require a couple more releases, some bug fixing, and new features to be enjoyable to use.

However, I’ve encountered a couple of rather annoying bugs that make me need to restart the app - totally hanging in the app.

The voice recognition sometimes works - and when it doesn’t it keeps repeating that you didn’t say it correctly.

Also related to this, in the review section I had the one sentence that I couldn’t get through before - because of the unrecognized speech - and the system hung…had to close the app completely.

Another annoyance for the product team - if I do not know the answer or the word, the app does not give me the answer or a hint. How am I to know what I am supposed to say if I just keep getting the “repeat, try again” screen but no help.

Final message - to the engineers. The time it takes to activate the mic “wait - mic activating” is seconds. The performance could be greatly improved.
  • Looking for help

I purchased a 1 year subscription online and when I go to the app to create an account, there is no option to enter in my promo/license. Instead there is only an option to purchase another one. This is very frustrating and I would like help in getting this figured out.
