I haven’t had any issues…I don’t think…
I can only speak English and recently I’ve been learning to draw a certain style for a couple of characters from a game (Bittergiggle and Sheriff Toadster, but mostly Bittergiggle, from Garten of Banban) that I really love. I’d been drawing based off of a certain artist from online to learn the style a bit and now I barely have to look at the original image to draw an adorable version of Bittergiggle. I decided to put the words in Japanese, making it look somehow even more adorable. However I do not know Japanese. So, I looked on my iPad’s apps and found this Translate app. I suppose I can only assume they are accurate. Maybe if my half-uncle (it’s a long story) from Japan comes over to visit my Nana and other family again, I can ask him if it’s actually accurate. I’m worried if it isn’t since there have been so many complaints about inaccuracy.

Travelling in Indonesia, it was happy to translate anything I typed in. But if I tried to use the camera, it would insist that the Indonesian words it scanned could be converted from English to Spanish!!! I tried to force the issue, but it wouldn’t let me select Indonesian as the source for the whole page, but only when I selected a single block (line) of text, and I had to change it from the default English to Spanish for every single line!!!

Is this app Точный?
Ok, first of all, I don’t know if this app is accurate. So I compare also the two translations to your app to Google Translate. A lot of times, I see major differences. Sometimes I’d I type just one word to translate, I get two words. But guess what? Google DOES NOT do that. Like for example, someone go on the Apple translate and type in the word, “translate.” I see two words. If you see two words you know I am right. Type it and you will see, “ Переводить, перевести.” Like, I just typed one word. Second of all, Google has more options of languages. Add, Serbian, Bangla, Finnish, Hindi, Greek, etc… This app should be use an accurate translator to help. Second of all, when I use the microphone to speak, sometimes it paste what I did not say😡😡😡. Я ненавидеть этот переводить. Я также изучаю русский язык. Я записываю слова в конспекты и в основном использую google translate, потому что считаю, что он лучше. This translator needs improvements. You see all the negative reviews so please improve your app.

Google translate a world better
Downloaded Apple Translator and two languages to work offline. After about a week system said Cannot translate download languages. Since then tried everything to perform this operation, over WiFi and 5G, deleted app, switched off phone, reloaded app - still no good.
Poor effort from Apple, lagging Google again who also provide character translation.

Kinda average
This app does what you need almost all of the time. I’ve never had a problem with the UI or it not having a language I need translating. Reason for 4 stars is because sometimes it just won’t work even when I’m connected to the internet.
Frustrating
I am travelling now, and I find this app endlessly frustrating.
I have downloaded the Spanish and English dictionaries to translate offline, but I find that without being online it will simply hang and never actually translate. Even when online, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it doesn’t like my VPN, then when I turn my VPN off sometimes it just doesn’t want to work anyway.
Just today, it randomly told me “translation not available” when I needed it most. As I said, I have downloaded the only two languages I need - why am I being told this!? I’m on an iPhone 14 Pro, so I’m definitely not on a slower or older model.
I loved the idea of a native app for translation, but I’m switching to Google it seems. When it works the content is good, but if I can’t rely on it what’s the point?

Bug: When downloading a language, a chosen language(s) does not download unless ‘Manage Languages’ window is left open until the language is completely downloaded. To explain further, if the language(s) being downloaded for ‘Available Offline’ is selected then user goes back to the Translate app, the language simply will not download. This bug is consistent with iPhone and iPad. It is not a network issue as it has been tested on a network with 1000Mb internet.
Feature request 1:
Capability to change translator voice (male/female).
Feature request 2:
Capability to have live conversation with three or four different language speakers at the same time.
Feature request 3:
Capability to share AirPods wherein live translations of designated conversation partner is shared while iPhone is in pocket. For example you are conversing while moving around a city, transport or doing any other activity.
Feature request 4: Own voice can be used as the translation voice.
