  • Chessable PRO doesn’t register

Bought Chessable PRO and got in contact with support. I’m not getting PRO in the app when the main reason I got it for is offline mode. I’m paying money and not getting what I’ve paid for

  • THE Ultimate tool

I have just started my journey with Chessable this year in the beginning of january 2024 so i'm still in the early stages of discovering all the wonderful features of this plateforme.

I am an old timer, 54 years old, I used to be active at the end of the 90's , my top rating in standard chess is around 2200 USCF, expert level.

I have been playing mostly blitz /rapid on lichess But I had to try chess.com premium membership one more time and I am happy I did. i've been a member before but there was always something stopping me from playing;, wife, kids, job, school etc but this years 2024 is special because I am newly retired so nothings going should stop me. I wanted to start fresh with a new handle on chess.com and I like the 💎 membership for the ability to analyze my games. By browsing the features on chess.com, I stumbled upon The chessable platform. I instantly fell in love.

For the first time in 40 years I was seeing some classic books that I own in paper form presented in a way that is taylor made for aspiring chess players young and old !!

I got so excited that I gave myself a late Christmas gift and a early birthday gift 🎁 😁 ! and I took advantage of there fabulous christmas sale !! Up to 50% off ! and I bought 7 bundles (books +vidéos).

And Suddenly, studying the Endgame is more fun, exciting and much more instructive ! I love the Chessable videos, its like having a GM or a IM comme to your home, when and how you want !! no more physically moving the pieces on a chessboard or having to turn the pages to get the answers to the quizzes !!

    examples:

i bought the extraordinary classic book Dvoretsky's Endgame manual
presented by GM Erwin L'ami it is a fantastic
bundle (book and video) For 300$ you get a 24 hours video cours with a GM !! + a fantastic book that is full of instructive examples and quizzes (for advance and master/expert level players) . I challenge anyone to get a 24 hours course with a GM for 300$
its not going to happen, some charge this per hour .

    - I got also I purchased
The checkmate pattern manual bundle that
is awesome by IM John Bartholomew, after going through the book I realized that after 40 years of playing this game, I still really don't Master the art of checkmating.
this bundle is as much for débutants than it is for master/Expert level players. very well done course....There is a fantastic selection of smorgasbord quizzes for more advance players, the positions are presented in order of difficulty so for debutants it is a must have
for 150$ you get a 10hours video course with a IM and a extremely instructive book
with hundreds of puzzles and quizzes
Anyone who gets a better deal anywhere else to please let me know...

    I also purchased a other classic :
    - The art of attck in chess bundle
where you get a beautiful book and a 31 hours instructive video with the very entertaining GM Simon Williams.
I have just started this one and Simon is a blast as always 😄

    - a other classic I got is:
Mastering chess strategy with GM Johan Hellsten. it is a extraordinary bundle
    also with 16h video
also i have just started the video
i own the paper book at home, it's very very good

    - also The classic Endgame Strategy by Shereshevsky presented and revised by GM Sam Shankland bundle with a 16h plus vidéo

I own the original copy of that book, its very precious

these are just some of the bundles that I purchased and I am a very happy camper.

Also I have to say that the team at chessable went out of there way to please me and they made sure that I was 110% satisfied. At the time that I am writing this review chessable has a full 30 days money 💰 back Guarantee-no questions asked- and they lived up to this standard, There were a few books that didn't resonate with me (note because they were not good) more because in some instances I found other bundles that I wanted to invest my time and money in and they issued a refund immediately NO QUESTIONS ASKED ! I was able to choose my own personal bundle library of personal GM's and IM's at my fingertips, that's more than awesome !

I would like to end on this note; like I stated in the beginning of this review, I have just started my journey with chessable ! I don't know 🤷‍♂️ where it's going to lead me, am I going to be able to reach Grand Master levels, I don't know ! I just want to have fun at this point in my life and create games with less blunders hopefully 😁 1 thing I know for sure is that chessable just brought me back to when I was 14 years old and I aspired to greatness !

    thank you for reading

and thank you to all the chessable team including chess.com !

    a big fan

What an absolutely incredible review! We're truly overjoyed to hear about your chess journey through both Chess.com and Chessable, and that you've found the courses so engaging and valuable. Dvoretzky's Endgame Manual is a total classic! Your support for Chessable means a great deal to us, and we simply couldn't do this without members like you. You make Chessable possible! Thank you!!
  • We need opening explorer in app, it’s the most important feature of the whole site

It’s so frustrating after playing a match and wanting to check the line having to dig through all the lines in a course. Opening explorer makes that so much quicker. Right now we have to either bring laptops to tournaments, or open chessable website in the internet browser on our phones instead of the app which is ridiculous.

And don’t even think about making it a pro feature, we’re paying hundreds of pounds for these courses - we have to be able to see the moves. It’s annoying enough that we can’t export the course as pgn and use the far superior Lichess app, but I understand that would make it easier for people to leak content.

Thank you for this feedback. We understand how important the course explorer feature is, and how useful it could be on the Chessable app. We'll explore this for the future, so please stick with us for the updates to come!
  • Idiotic not having save var to replay feature

I purchased about $500+ in courses:
    • Spellman books
    • Gustafson Lifetime repertoire
    • 25 best Morphy games
    • Attacking repertoire for club member from Midas

    I can go on…

The said, I was under the impression, this app had MOST of the features its web counterpart has. I do not use the website counterpart, only to make purchases..

I am strictly an iPad person, I do all of my work here, studying.. literally everything. However, when I investigated the website version, that’s when I found out how lack luster the iOS version is.

Very idiotic to me, and infuriating.. that designers of this app, decided to:
❌ 1) NOT ADD a “favorite variation” feature
❌ 2) NOT ADD Replay your “favorite variation or variations” on repeat until —> we decide to move on.

How idiotic of them. I refuse to spend any more money until you improve this barebones app.

Why bother investing in developing an iPad app
    • paying for design
    • paying for assets
    • paying for a developer

and then.. your idiotic selves release a barebones app forcing us to arbitrarily, learn one way —> extremely infuriating when I’m trying to learn.

Hi Lost in Tactics! We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. The app is being actively developed and not feature-complete yet, so you will not be able to do everything that the website does. However, the website version www.chessable.com works perfectly on most modern/updated smartphones via your integrated smartphone/iPad web browser. Please write to us at hello@chessable.com and we'll be glad to assist.
  • Pedagogically Strong But Interface Can be Cumbersome

The built-in review functionality reinforces learning! But the interface (iPhone, iPad & browser) is not really intuitive - takes some getting used to.

It can be difficult/impossible to back up through the course hierarchy/structure. There is no progress indicator.

Yes, it’s good but not polished yet.

We appreciate this feedback on the interface. When viewing your Chessable course dashboard, you can view the fraction of variations or moves you've learned for a given course, including how many you have left to study. To visit a certain section of a course, you can tap on it on your dashboard, then tap on the three lines icon at the top left to view all sections. If you need assistance, or if you have suggestions on how the app could be better, please let us know at: hello@chessable.com
  • Failure to get membership.

Terrible process to get the pro subscription with different errors when doing it via their website as well as through the app.

Theses courses are the best way to interactively learn chess!
  • Excellent site and resource, clunky app

I’ve been using Chessable for a while, very happily on my computer browser, but this iOS app is clunky, slow and has a few recurring issues: saying you’re offline when you’re not, not displaying the green ‘next’ button when you finish reviewing a line and want to go to the next, and often just displaying the ‘loading’ dial indefinitely. Needs improvements to come up to the level of the excellent learning platform it is.

  • Chess study is now fun

1st I need to say that this app is for the serious player wishing to improve. 2nd I enjoyed learning chess on this app as it made studying easy. With the openings it explains the strategy and reasons behind the moves. The endgame review was something I was looking for a long time.
The one thing that stands out to me is that it needs a second step in the review button where you can choose which course to review. Right now it skips from course to course with no rhyme or reason. Overall a great app.
