Very good app

Takes a bit to get setup, but once you do, it’s worth it.

It just asks you if you actually want to open the app, instead of stopping you, which I find much more effective as I can still use social media when I want to. It also asks how long you want to use it for, and will check back with me after that time so I can’t lose track of time and spend longer than I wanted to on social media.

It does have a subscription, which, although some features are free, you do need to get the most out of it. However, it’s only £20 a year and has a one week free trial so I can’t complain too much.

Very grateful I bought premium on One Sec

Crazy how these large corporations made social media apps so powerful that I'll subconsciously go on Instagram and snapchat without even thinking about it. I'm not a scroller and wouldn't endlessly scroll on social media but I would go on them to check notifications. Whenever there was pause in a video game, nothing going on in the moment in life, or I'm bored, I'd naturally pick up my phone and by default go to Instagram with 0 purpose. After I downloaded one sec and bought premium it made my unconscious habit conscious. It makes me ask myself in my head, "is there anything I absolutely need to do on this app?" If the answer is no, I get off. The habit has subsided too because my mind associates checking social media as one sec popping up. So grateful I got this because I'm a lot more mindful and in the moment than I was before and I'm a lot happier and less irritable. I highly recommend you get this app because if your someone like me who doesn't wanna delete their socials, this makes you in control of your decision to go on these high dopamine apps rather than the corporation being in control of you.

Great app, but…

This is a very clever application that does precisely what it’s advertised to. It requires a form of intervention before opening an app of your choice, and this is highly customizable. There are lots of interventions to choose from, and how long you want them to be. You can also have it choose a random exercise for you, and it supports website blocking as well, which is nice. You can also set up a bedtime schedule where it blocks all apps and websites. It provides an informative dashboard detailing approximately how much time you saved. However, I really can’t get behind the modern era of subscription based apps. Especially for the lifetime license costing a whopping FIFTY dollars, and SEVENTY for a “family plan”. I don’t have any problem supporting independent developers and paying for software, but I personally feel like this is overpriced for what it does. Most of it is just relying on the iOS shortcuts functionality anyway, and all the app is doing is showing a pretty GUI and recording the time. You could replicate something similar in shortcuts (although not entirely, like website blocking for instance.) If you don’t mind the cost, go for it, but I would probably pay $15 maximum for a lifetime license, not $50. Especially considering many people using this are likely college students.

Response from developer

Hello, please send us an email. We have special scholarship plans for people who cant afford the app. we want EVERYONE to be able to use one sec! support@one-sec.app – Frederik

I liked it until it stopped working

I’ve really loved this app and how it works, but recently some functions have just stopped working completely. I’ve deleted the app and redownloaded it but it still seems to have the same issue. The problem is that I turn on the block for certain apps, and within OneSec it says that the apps are blocked, but I still have access to them. So the blocking feature doesn’t work at all for me anymore and I don’t know why. I also can’t select specific apps to block anymore because the dropdown menu doesn’t work either. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Works as intended

Works sooo well. The 10+ sec wait time makes it feel so inconvenient to open Instagram. The free version is actually quite useful too as you have to wait for the deep breath screen even when switching between apps which I frequently do, (sending a text or something between reels, etc.) so I tend to give up sooner once the app is opened. Hopefully one sec continues rewiring my brain to think of IG as a task.

Finally an app with people that listen!!

I’ve been using this app for some time, it’s the best one I’ve found!! Seriously!! Life changing!!!
Yes I pay, but it is worth every penny.
When I first started using it my adhd brain found ways around the block, it’s hard to find will power in the moment!!! I messaged the people that run the app with my idea on how they could add some features in the app. Within a matter of weeks it had been changed and now there is absolutely no way around the strict block when I’m locked in hyper-focus. The only way is to go is into shortcuts which you can set up to give an extra long breathing exercise which snaps me out of my hyper focus and reminds me why I set it up in the first place!!! Great work guys, keep it up! The hours I have gained!! lol

Awesome!

This app took only 2 minutes to set up, and works GREAT! On the first day it’s saved me so much time! I’m only using the free version and it’s still great! Would recommend 100% so far! Have only had it for a few hours but so far it’s good!

Not easy to use

Impossible to figure out. For a non tech person. Incredibly frustrating tbh.

Good idea, bad execution

Although the idea is great and it works maybe 1/20 times for me (using free version on instagram) but it does take a few seconds to realize, (5-10) and in this time I’ve already seen what I want to see and end up ignoring the 6 second to wait and then just scrolling. I also found that I was using instagram more, because I had already waited so long to get onto the app I didn’t want to wait again so I just stayed on the app for hours at a time.
