Like many on Reddit I started using this app and it was great, no issues with verifying my identity and made my first transaction and scheduling recurring weekly buys. I also applied for the ability to send and receive bitcoin on the app. This is when I and other redditors ran into an issue, they will lock your account and eventually refund your money with no explanation other than a canned response. No appeal, no additional documents requested just a complete account closure. If you choose to use this app despite the warning do a few small canary transactions first and see if you can withdraw before putting too much in. Sleazy banks don’t even behave like this.

Not as advertised
I am skeptical about all these good reviews after my own experience. They have an ID verification before you can buy bitcoin but all of sudden they require another ID verification if you want to withdraw your bitcoin. The verification for sending bitcoin failed for me surprisingly with the same ID provided. You need to wait another month to *try* to be verified again. And they don’t tell you anything about why the verification will fail. And the ID verification takes more than 3 days as advertised. This is the most untrasparent platform I have ever used and the whole things feel sketchy. Even Coinbase is way better. Stay away!

Best Bitcoin App Out There!
River is the safest, most responsible, and most amenable place to buy, sell, save, and spend Bitcoin. River app also has the best Bitcoin lighting payment network so when you pay with Bitcoin you can be sure it will go through right away and with reasonable fees. Great job River!

The best way to stack sats.
There are many ways to buy bitcoin, but I think River is probably one of the best. They seem to put a lot of effort into their iOS app, and I think they have the best widgets for monitoring the price.
Also, their web version is great, and it helps you get a snapshot of your cost basis and an easy to export way so you can move between Web and mobile, which I really appreciate.
Last and certainly not least when it does come time to withdraw, they support lightning, that’s huge.

Do not use this company for bitcoin
I’ve had my River account for several years. I received an email a week or so ago, saying that my account was under review and I could not use it. River continued, however, to make withdrawals and purchases of bitcoin out of my bank account even though I was unable to access my own account in anyway. I made numerous phone calls and sent numerous emails asking to please clarify what was going on. This morning I received an email stating that my account had been closed, today is February 28, 2024. It gave no reason specifically for why my account had been closed. Just listed a bunch of possible reasons that the account had been closed. The email also stated that they would be keeping my money until March 21, 2024, and then the money would be returned to my originating bank account. Not only is it a reflection of terrible customer service the way this was handled but also, an extreme lack of transparency. In addition, if you’re closing my account today in my account is unable to be accessed by me beginning today, then you should be sending my money back today.

I love their app and website
They’ve done a great job at making DCA’ing into bitcoin very easy. There is no fee after 1 week of a reoccurring order, which is nice. However, you’re limited to 3 reoccurring orders at a time, which is kinda annoying. Their fees for spot buying and selling are relatively low I think it’s like 1.2% or something for orders less than 250,009, which is still probably competitive for an exchange. Their spread is quite high meaning their price is always higher than the actual current spot market, but in the long term if you’re DCA’ing imo it’s better to have the free fee if you’re doing a large amount of orders.

I sent $1000 to River. They took over a week to review my account, telephoned to confirm me. By this time it was at least 10 days later. My account was worth $1065!! Woohoo cool I’m making money!!! Nope! River decided I couldn’t deal with them. Like that other commenter -oh we can’t give you a reason. They closed my account and are only sending me back my initial investment, not the $65 my coin made. Oh and they will refund my money in a month??! Don’t trust this company!!! They are stealing from people. I repeat CROOKS!!

Great app and company
The app is very smooth and this a Bitcoin only company. They have an impressive custody set up that is all in- house. They have competitive fees and allow you to withdraw your Bitcoin using the lightning network.
