Black magic insanity

There’s absolutely no reason this app should function as well as it does. Honestly it’s incredible how accurate it is. There are very, very few apps that genuinely blow me away, but this is one of them.

An amazing tool for Ideation

Being able to scan and have the background removed in a matter of seconds really reduces the time it takes to rapidly come up with an idea. I often go from 2D-3D-2D so being able to isolate the object with going into photoshop is amazing.

Nope

Would only buy it if I can focus on objects. Most of it came out blurry (including texts on documents) even though I have good lighting. I couldn’t try other objects since the free scans are reduced even if you didn’t save your scan. I’ll come back later when this is fixed.

Simple and Brilliant

Does exactly what it says and does it well. I was impressed with the first photo on the trial. Kept snapping away and playing with it. Then it asked me to pay. I paid up straight away. Get it.

So cool

This app is so fun! The times I used to need to do this I would have to spend forever in Procreate to remove the background (I’m not very good at it). Now it’s a breeze and all done in a matter of seconds.

Absolutely amazing

I did not really have any plans how to use Scan Thing but I liked the idea and how it works
Now I find myself using it often as I take pictures as reminders on what to buy or. References. The fact that the thing you want is the only thing in the picture and gloriously looking 3D - it makes you focus.

Good work, team!!

Nice

I instinctively tap it to focus (as the built-in camera does and so do most similar apps) this app unfortunately uses that to take a scan which is annoying.

The icon is lovely, the one-off payment is excellent, personally my first move is to look at in-app purchases and if there are any ongoing purchases I close it and keep looking.

On my iPad Air 3 it crashes frequently when I take a scan so I have to keep killing it. It seems to work better on the iPhone.

Fantastic app

I am absolutely gobsmacked by the effectiveness of this app in isolating objects in pictures. You can take a photo of an object, or even select one of your currently saved pictures, and (the unimaginatively-named) Scan Thing will crop out everything in the background. It even works with the television screen in the unlikely event of your wanting a cropped-out picture of the newsreader. You do have to be a little careful about the background if there is a complete lack of contrast between it and parts of the subject’s edge, but that’s no great surprise.
I’ve not made great use of the convert image to editable text feature, but from a quick play it also seems to work well.
In short, it’s a great app, and well-worth the small charge for unlimited use.

Unbelievable

I don’t often do reviews but this app has broken the mould.

I bought the £4.99 version before I had even tried the trial version and I haven’t been disappointed. I did this on the recommendations I had read.

This app does not contain my idea of “deal killers” (which lead me to delete ASAP)

The ubiquitous “create an account”
Multiple subscriptions from “reasonable” to “insane”
Ridiculously overpriced to start with.
No, in fact this is a self contained “buy once, use always” app and produces brilliant results.

Brilliant app, well worth the more than reasonable licence fee.

Great for teachers!!

As a teacher, I use this app all the time! Being able to copy printed text and turn it into digital text would be amazing in any year - but in a year of remote teaching, I couldn’t have gotten through it without that feature. Beyond being incredibly useful, it’s really fun too!
