Really CR? I thought you were above that.
  • A must-have for home maintenance sticklers

Great app that gives tons of insight into home maintenance and lots of to dos that you might not have thought of. The ability to store item information and receipts is great and love the customizability for to do items. It’s a little rough around the edges with some glitches here and there but overall works pretty well and I find it super handy!

  • Inadequate Support

A liked the functionality and options of this app until I ran into a problem. I was trying to add a custom item to the kitchen category. Surprisingly, a microwave is not a part of their pre-set. A custom item canNOT be added - no picture, no details. I wrote to customer support, got an answer that they knew about the issue and were working on it. It’s been a month already, nothing happened. To my follow up email, I got a rude answer that they would let me know when it’s fixed. So, for now, I am not motivated to keep adding items as their picture upload doesn’t work even for the pre-set items. That prevents me from adding critical information about the appliances.

  • So close

I really want to go all in with this app but I wish I could fully customize items. I cannot find a way to delete or modify the starting tasks that may not be relevant to my exact item. For example my generator requires a monthly maintenance run but the default task is every 3 months and cannot be changed.

Thank you for the suggestion! We are always looking to improve, so i've passed on your comment about editing our pre-set items to our production team.In the meantime, we do have a 'custom item' feature, where you can create an item and customize it as needed. If you have any other features you'd like to see or have any questions about using our custom item feature please feel free to reach out to upkept@cr.consumer.org.
  • Misleading

I downloaded this app with a referral from my homeowners insurance company with an enticement of “3 months free trial”. The app is helpful and teaches me things to do that I would not have thought about, however, I only got through the 1st month when they started charging me. There have also been some opportunities to speak with the developers through virtual chat sessions, however, I signed up for 2 of these and no one shows up and they get cancelled. So while this is a very helpful app, I’m not sure what to think of the company and developers.

Hi there, We're so sorry for the inconveniences our app has caused you. Please email upkept@cr.consumer.org with your feedback. We promise to straighten out the issues you have experienced as soon as possible. Thank you
  • Great Value

$4.99/mo with no ads with the potential of saving you $1000s in costly repairs from poor upkeep is a stellar value.
I only wish there was an option to pay for your subscription through the Consumer Reports website rather than through the app. I’d much rather have CR get the 30% cut that Apple gouges from app subscriptions.
Grading upkeep items as critical, important or extra credit helps prioritize home maintenance without getting overwhelmed.

Thank you for the feedback! Upkept and Consumer Reports are separate subscriptions, but we appreciate hearing the feedback on combining them! Our team is always looking for features to add to improve the app! Thank you for your suggestion!
  • Good in theory

It’s a great idea, and a great looking app - but for the cost, and the fact that notifications do not work (and have never worked) - one of the selling points is the app notifying you when to tend to certain tasks and maintenance routines. So without that functionality in working order, this is just a really expensive database of your appliances and some maintenance tips. Not worth it until the app is fixed, and even then, it’s overpriced.

Hey there, Thanks for your feedback! That's very odd that your notifications are not working. Sorry about that! Have you tried looking in the app's settings and your phone's settings to see if you have notifications turned off? Happy to trouble shoot this with you, so you can get the most out of the free trial. Our email is upkept@cr.consumer.org if you want to talk more. Thanks!
  • $60/yr forever for info in every manual and home repair website

This app is ridiculously expensive. I subscribe to Consumer Reports. I downloaded the app after reading about it in their print magazine. I finally got around to setting up Upkept nearly a year later and am told the app costs $5/mo. What?! I get charging for additional services like in-person support, but a monthly charge for an automated app is absurd, especially when it's developed by a publication I already pay for.

Hi there, I hear your frustration! We do our best to keep your costs low, but right now the monthly fee is needed to cover our costs to improve and maintain Upkept. The app provides over 250 personalized maintenance plans to caring for and maintaining your home. And if you want to see if its worth the money, you can try 1 month for free and decide if you want to pay going forward. Thanks!
  • No point in downloading

You might as well make your app $5 if you’re going to make them pay to use it anyway.
  • Monthly fee for use

I could only enter 1 item. Then the app won’t go any further before it demands a monthly (about $5) subscription fee. For $600/ year I could buy a new appliance or item! No thanks.
