  • Not Worth It

I’m paying $4.99 a month for a calendar to remind me what to clean. I’m not a fan of the subscription model for such a bare bones app. I already pay for a print subscription, plus another subscription for the Consumer Reports website. There should be a one time flat fee for the app instead of nickel-and-diming your supporters to death. I will be canceling.

  • Great in theory

I’ve tried downloading and deleting multiple times over a few weeks and never can get past the first few pages without a error. Different download, different page for the error.
  • Helps me stay organized

I really like this app. It helps me stay organized and on top of maintenance that is easy to forget. There are two things I wish the app did (or maybe it does, but I don’t know how to use it.) The first is for reoccurring maintenance to appear without you having to manually uncheck them as completed to get them added back to your list for that month.

The second is to be able to move items to a different month. Otherwise I really enjoy using it!

Hi Jmeg24--Thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback. Any upkeep that is monthly will show up in each month that it needs to be done. There are no tasks that need to be done more than once a month, so there should be no need to uncheck a task as done in order to keep seeing it. Because Upkept automatically schedules all tasks for the year to ensure that seasonally specific tasks are done exactly when they need to be, and distributes the work evenly throughout the year, there is no way to move tasks around right now. If you're having a different experience with the app and want to share more details, email us at upkept@cr.consumer.org
  • Really good start, needs more custom options

I really like the design of the app and the suggested automated tasks.

Unfortunately we have some items that aren’t listed as options (whole house humidifier requiring filter changes for example) that make it unlikely to keep up with the app since we’ll have to find another way to remember those.

I also don’t like that we can’t add year installed/manufacturer/brand for some items like hardwood and carpet since we know them.

Lastly, I’d much prefer one flat fee, even if hefty, than monthly sub.

  • Good but needs custom items!

Love this idea and the execution is pretty darn good. Can the developers add custom “items”? For example, what if I want a quarterly reminder to check the batteries on my electric mouse traps? Hard for CR to know every consumers wants, so best to just give them the power to DIY those parts :)

Great job otherwise. Looking forward to this helping me.

Hi Tiger, Being able to add custom items is definitely something that's in consideration for a future version. The more we hear about what features people need most, the better we can prioritize, so thanks for letting us know it's something you're looking for.
  • Good, not great yet

Pretty neat app in telling you the routine maintenance required for a home. The functionality right now is pretty basic, just a calendar of tasks you should be doing by month. Not sure a calendar is worth the monthly subscription fee. Low hanging fruit that can make it more useful and valuable are pulling in user manuals for the appliances you add and adding in or linking videos in addition to the descriptive steps. Additionally functionality to consider maybe recommendations or near by pros that can do the task for you or maybe product recommendations from consumer reports.

Hi Duckypod, Thanks so much for your suggestions. We love hearing what users want more of in the app, and we're always looking to improve the experience of maintaining your home with Upkept. We so appreciate you taking the time to send us your feedback.
  • Great idea and good app but expensive

This app does what I’ve been looking for for a while but sixty dollars a year is far too much for this sort of information that they have to produce once. Would have been great as a one time payment app but gotta monetize everything.
  • Helped save my fridge!

I never thought to check the gasket on my fridge until this app told me to. Turns out there was a tear the size of a nickel and because of this app I was able to identify it and get it repaired before the entire unit died.

  • Only works with a subscription fee.

Only works with a subscription fee. Doesn’t tell you until after you make an account and add 1 item. Pretty shady practice especially from consumer reports

Edit: no you were not upfront on your Instagram ad. Which lead right to the download. And I’m sure it a method of a decent amount of traffic to your new app.

Secondly. Regardless of wording on the install page. There’s too many accounts I need to have in todays world. The least you can do is notify me of the cost BEFORE I give you my personal info. Now. Even though I’ll never use the app, I have an account floating around. And should consumer reports ever get hacked there’s just one more avenue for my personal information be out there

Hi Aasquith94, We value your privacy and we would be happy to delete your account if you contact us at upkept@cr.consumer.org so we can remove your information. We work to be very upfront about the cost and subscription. You can see the price mentioned both on our site and in the app store page before installing or using the app. We realize that this explanation of our business might not have made you any more satisfied with the cost of of Upkept, but I would like to assure you that I have shared your feedback with the appropriate staff management.
  • Worthwhile and Very Detailed

I don’t know how people are complaining about the cost of the app, which is very obvious even before downloading it, and it comes after a *90-day* free trial, which is very generous as far as apps go. Even then, is $4.99 a month, and as a first-time homeowner, that’s nothing to save me the hassle (and inevitable cost) of figuring it all out myself. Still more, the details are exhaustive as to completing each task. I’m really enjoying it so far, and I look forward to future updates. Great work (UI is real nice) and worthwhile.
