Good until it goes wrong

Just used this on one trip so far. Whilst in the country I was visiting it was great to know that I wasn’t attracting exorbitant fees and it was all smooth. That was until I tried to top up my funds and it kept going wrong. I phoned the helpline and the only advice they had was to try from a computer browser. (Rather than in the app)

I did and I still had no luck. The helpline suggested that I tried calling my own bank. I did that, I should also at this point declare that I work within the payment card industry. I was able to get my bank to trace exactly what was happening. We did see the attempted transaction. However Mastercard was not responding to the 3D secure challenge (a form of 2Factor verification)

This left me having to use my normal debit card. I couldn’t top up my travel card. It sort of left me disappointed that the Hays side of things couldn’t give me answers and caused me to have bank charges that should’ve been avoided.
Otherwise it would have been five stars.

A bit of advice if you are considering this card. Check before travelling that you can top up from your source of funds.

Sorry to hear to hear you have experienced issue with the App, Mastercard have been carrying out intermittent maintenance which could have affected the App verification function. Perfect card to use on your travels.

Used the card for the 2nd year on holiday and would highly recommend it. Occasionally there are issues with loading money on to the card but it soon resolves itself.
I love the fact if you forget your PIN number then you can check it on the app. With so many PIN numbers and passwords to remember, this is a great feature!

Top up refusal

Currently in France on holiday and it totally refuses to let me top up my account. Spoke to customer services after being on hold for 20 minutes and then told to wait 24 hrs and try again, same issue still not allowed to top up. Emailed them twice and still nothing resolved!!

Always the same answer (must be carrying out maintenance) when you leave a review that you don’t like. I have emailed them and after they asked for me to leave my number and a time for them to call yet they still fail to call to resolve the issue. Not getting anywhere after constant emails and complaints about there inefficiency to resolve my problem. Will be cancelling on my return back to the UK.

Inconvenient glitches

Works intermittently. Started off working really well, then after about a week it was failing to load money from my bank account. To be fair, after an email to customer services it started working again. Then after about another week it wouldn’t allow me to log on to check my spending and balance. Again, following another email it started working again. So, customer services works really well, but the glitches are inconvenient.

Brilliant card to use abroad

Instead of using your own card abroad, you can use the Hays travel card you can see on the app how much money you’ve got, and you can also keep a check on the money being used, easier than trying to access your own bank abroad.
So if you need to use the card abroad, use the travel card and once you are home, you can transfer the money back to your own account or I have used the card back home in the UK after transferring the money back to sterling, well recommended

Frustrated

Recently got one of these cards on advice of the cashier at the foreign exchange counter, at first the card worked well and was able to load with currency of the country I was travelling to. A few days later while on my trip I had to reload the card again, this is where things went wrong! The app would not allow myself to load any more currency to the card no matter what the card or if I was using Wi-Fi or 5G, this was not an isolated issue as the person I was travelling with had the same problem. Long story short you would be better off taking cash or traveler checks with you as you don’t know when or where the card will stop working. I’m only giving this a one star as it won’t let me go any lower, and the customer service I received was very poor to say the least.

Good card

Generally accepted where other credit/debit cards are accepted. Only had a couple of occasions when it wasn’t able to be used, eg a theatre in New York - had to be a credit card to purchase tickets. Used in NY and in Norway so far and not had any problems to speak of. The biggest problem was initially trying to add funds in the US but the problem was with my phone roaming, not the card/app. Doesn’t allow for Norwegian Krone so we switched to Euros from US dollars as some shops in Norway accepted Euros. It’s easy to switch funds between currencies. Heading to Rome next and have loaded more Euros - fingers crossed it will be accepted with no problems. I wouldn’t recommend it as your only option but it’s definitely worth having as your main card.

Little disappointed

We used this card in April in the USA & only issue we had was it couldn’t be used in Publix
(supermarket) , thankfully we had cash with us !
The App is not good it keeps saying enter password but there is no where to enter just a forgotten password so you tap that & it says they will send temporary password to email, it doesn’t !
Very frustrating & means you can’t see your balance or do anything with App as you simply can’t access it ! So you have to delete & start again not ideal if you are having a shopping day & need to see balance . I will use up what I have on app but don’t think I will use again unless app is improved . As of today August 2022 it’s still doing same thing !

App sometimes frustrating

I have been on holiday for a week and have used my card successfully every day without any issues. However on several occasions when I have wanted to check my balance, I have gone into the app and although I have set it up for face recognition, all I see is ‘forgotten your password’?

I have not, of course - but if I click YES (because the app offers no other option), the promised email with a temporary password to allow me to change my password never arrives.

Therefore the only option is to delete the app and reload it. This is unacceptable and frustrating.

Absolute failure!

This card has been a nightmare only loaded once after persevering to upload for around an hour! Couldn’t upload throughout my holiday tried about 30 attempts and still kept failing 😡 call customer support and kept getting cut off 3 times.. even tried a bank transfer and it came out of my bank and then returned to my bank after 5 days! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦‍♀️
Customer support are suppose to be calling me to discuss my non GB charges that resulted in having to use my own bank card due to this issue.. never will I use this card again! Been a total stressful time whilst away. No issues with my bank as called them so no restrictions 🤷🏻‍♀️ even my children had a card each and had the same problem. 😡
