Crashes

The charger works well and is beautiful, the app is really bad. The functionality is so simple (which is fine!), you’d think it would be possible to build a rock solid and beautiful app.

At the moment the app crashes when opened so I can’t even use it… updates are few and far between.

I realllly want to support this company and will happily update my review once the app works well (or works at all!).

Come on, you can do it!!

Used to get current household consumption now no more

The app is basic but I liked that I could see the current household consumption under summary even when not charging.

Now it only appears when charging. Not sure if this happened during an app update.

Charger itself is fine for what it does but the app is poor

Charger app always drops off WiFi

The charge point looks great and seems to work fine.

However, I have real issues with the charger app continually freezing and dropping off WiFi. This requires me to keep restarting or reloading the app.

This is happening every 2 weeks and is becoming a real pain. I have looked on the website and there is little explanation but clearly this is a more widespread issue given some of the comments.

Come on Simpson - a great, high end, British product let down by something so seemingly minor. Please fix it!

Rubbish from the start but latest is useless

The apps been rubbish from the start and they don’t spend enough time and energy on it, support dismissive and stop responding. Latest update turns on solar by default and will not charge the car if this is on and you don’t have solar, should have left it working not breaking things again.

Easy to use, needs failure notifications

The app is so simple and easy to use but you only know if the unit has actually failed by the car telling you there is a fault.
It will be handy to know what causes the failure and a red dot on the app icon.

App data

I have reviewed App and charger favourably previously. There seems to be an intermittent problem with the Simpson & Partners servers. This interrupts/prevents the App WIFI access to charger (bluetooth still works) and has caused data issues with charge history in App.

Response from developer

Hi Mark9887, we are terribly sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with our app on iOS 17. We would really like to get this resolved for you, could you please submit a ticket via our website so we can look into this for you? S&P Dev team

The CT clamp doesn’t read properly, and the solar panel function doesn’t work.

I installed this charger in **October 2023**. I chose it for its features and appearance. Although the price was higher than other reputable chargers, it seemed fair to me. Now, to the point: the **CT clamp** is not functioning properly. It doesn't read accurate measurements, which means I can't monitor household consumption or use solar panels to charge my car correctly. I reported the issue in **November 2023**. They replaced the base (not the clamp), but it still didn't work. The last message I received from support was on **February 9**, asking me to wait another week. **Two months** later, I'm still waiting for that email or a solution. I **cannot recommend** this charger while something as **essential** as the CT clamp is not functioning properly, and support not only fails to solve the issue but also **stops responding** altogether.

Only thing “smart” about it is the way it looks.

Comment applies to both app and charger.
Hardware is ok but energy management and app software not really fit for purpose. They are aware but despite several promises, nothing forthcoming. App last updated 7 months ago…….

It’s fine

App is pretty basic, but since we’re using Intelligent Octopus that’s fine.

Do see occasional bugs, such as the app telling me it’s not recording charging because it’s offline, but the charging history is all there and matches (ish) what the Tesla app says I’ve used.

No complaints, but nothing really stand out

Disappointed with app and energy management

I replaced a cracked Wallbox charger with a Simpson & Partners charger and wish I’d got a new Wallbox.

The WiFi connection keeps dropping out even though it is very close to a power line adaptor and has full strength. This seems to happen when the energy management has issues so it cuts everything off. Then it doesn’t reconnect to the WiFi at all or sometimes for hours. Often I have to restart the charger to get this working again.

The charger looks great but I’m finding it really unreliable.
