Brilliant movement. App is better than FB
So proud of this global movement started by a few woman in WA! BuyNothing has changed how I view community giving, vulnerable asking, buying and even donating. Ive never met more neighbors and kind strangers than through this movement.
*The app has more features, freedom, larger communities and more than the FB groups and I encourage everyone to prioritize the app. The way it’s run is also truer to the original movement*
It means so much more, and I can more easily part with more things knowing they’re going directly into the hands of someone appreciative and for the sake of giving vs. to corporate thrift store profits or the pain of trying to sell things. We give raves for people we have good experiences with (prompt pick ups etc) to help inform and positive experiences.
In return, receiving asks is beautiful and I’m amazed at the generosity of the community and the valuable items I’ve seen people give freely. It’s really changed how I view $ value.
Yes the app has lots of bugs but this is a grassroots movement! *They work with the volunteer resources they have and if everyone who complained donated instead, BN could be so much more, sooner.*

Very disappointed, deleting the app
I’ve gotten rid of several things using the app (yay!) and acquired a few things as well. However, the app has so many issues at this point it’s become unusable: -Notifications aren’t delivered in a timely manner when someone responds to a post or DM’s you. I’ve missed out on stuff because of this. -There’s no way to sort or “favorite” posts without paying a subscription fee making it difficult to keep track of items you’re interested in. (Not everyone can afford the subscription price; it’s kind of steep for a “frugal” app.) -Every time the app updates it logs me out. Trying to log back in after the most recent update, I’m getting an error message stating “Invalid login or password” despite using my saved log in information. After creating accounts 3 times due to this issues, I’m done. App is deleted.

Love the connection of low spend/environmentalism
This is a great place to find some great things that other folks are trying to give away and making something last a little longer (often the items are in great condition). People on the app are very responsive and friendly. Only downsides are that it is a little buggy, all of the app set up and design is great but every now and then it will have an update that will result in more frequent log outs/missed messages from perspective givers/receivers but everyone is very understanding of the nature of the app. And it does improve! As the app continues to get more users it does seem to get better, this is for sure a functional app, it just takes a bit of work to get through some of the bugs.

Great idea in theory, but not smooth in practice
This is a wonderful idea, and I have successfully given away a couple things so far. But there are some problems I’m encountering. One person asking for books and toys for children who have nothing turned out to be a scam, and I was only able to avoid it at the last minute because a friend clued me in to what was happening. Now I don’t know which other things might be scams. Plus, when someone responds to something I am gifting, and then I respond back what daytime do they want to pick up? They never answer. And it is a drag to keep going in every day to check and this has happened with more people than have actually responded. Plus, the posts are entered one on top of the other, so that the newest one is always on top. the only way to browse through offers/asks is to just continue scrolling down down down. Of course, you can only bump your post up to the top if you are a paying member. Again, a grate philosophy, but not user-friendly.

Feels great to see items through to their next home
When you drop off at a donation site, you never know if they item gets chucked or gets to a new owner. This app lets you participate in the process more. You do right by your items, you do right by your neighbors.
App is a little wonky on iPhone, which is the only reason for the less than 5 stars. I get logged out constantly and sometimes can’t get back in, so msgs and comments get missed sometimes. Very frustrating when you are trying to make swift hand offs.

Possibly the best app I’ve ever downloaded
This is the absolute best app for anyone who is trying to do their part in keeping things out of landfills. I have managed to find new owners for dozens of items that I’ve been lugging around for years because, while they still had a lot of life left in them, they were no longer useful to me. I’ve met a lot of neighbors this way and have had nothing but lovely interactions, both online and in person. It’s also a great place to seek out things you might need. Folks are very generous on this platform! I highly recommend.

The worst designed app ever
Don’t waste your time on this app. It is just wildly badly designed. Let’s start with the most dangerous part: there is no way to block people. So this app is set up to meet local people in person to exchange free things, and if one of those people decides to send you unwanted or hateful messages there is no way to block them. You also can’t block them from seeing your posts. You can’t even delete any messages from anyone. Imagine releasing an app without the ability to delete a message! This app is built by people who lack imagination and don’t care about anyone’s safety. Then there’s all the less dangerous stuff - it doesn’t work most of the time. It crashes constantly. It’s just useless and the developers should give up, there’s no saving something built so badly from the start

App Fail
I love the premise of Buy Nothing and absolutely hate this app. 9 times out of 10 if just doesn’t work. At best, it doesn’t alert me to new messages so I’m just constantly having to check back to see if I’ve been messaged about a listing. At worst, the app won’t even open, for DAYS. The number of times I’ve had to uninstall and reinstall the app — sometimes in a single day — is ridiculous. As a result, I’ve missed important coordination details with other community members which is extremely frustrating. More often than not, the app will revert to the login page upon opening and won’t accept my credentials. Then I’ll have to go through the process of resetting my password to the same one I’ve been using, and about half the time it will then allow me to log in. The other half I just have to keep trying every hour or so until it works, or uninstall/reinstall the app. This has been going on since I first downloaded the app many many months ago, and I don’t expect it to change. I’m deleting it for good now.

Great mission; tech needs work
Handing off my possessions to another person is a touching experience that few other apps provide.
Improvement points: app slowness, loading, breaking when too many users are logged in. Searching for a specific item to adopt is too one-by-one, and random, I’m tempted to just buy something new instead. And scheduling is hard, even after exchanging phone numbers.
