Super buggy
I like the idea of BuyNothing but app is super slow, if it works at all. Constantly logging in, multiple times per day because the app keeps logging me out. And logging in is hit or miss, even though my password does not change I receive error messages. Then when I can finally log in, it spins forever and sometimes does not load at all. When it does load and I try posting an item, hitting the green “Post” button does nothing but spins some more.

Love the concept but app is buggy
But Nothing is the best way to de-clutter your life without the guilt of tossing stuff in the trash. It’s a blessing to be able to share stuff with others in need.
Only wish is that the app would be less buggy. It constantly wants me to sign in… just leave me signed in! It can be a bit wonky when you think you’re replying to a post but actually you haven’t. Notifications when other reply to your posts don’t always show up in a timely manner.
But aside from these bugs, the app is still worth using

Needs more development
Very slow to load anything, won’t let me update my details. Needs a lot more work.
Needs reliability improvements
Pros: the app helps me connect to my community and exchange things with people so nothing goes to waste.
Cons: the app is very buggy. The developers keep adding features without improving reliability of the core functions. I want the basic features to work well without having to wait 30+ seconds and/or restart the app: loading my inbox, sending and receiving messages, scrolling through posts, checking the comments on a post.

Great platform, not a good app
I love BuyNothing and the entire idea behind it. I’ve found some great stuff and I’ve been able to give away things to people who are always appreciative.
However, the app itself does not work well. It logs me out constantly and does not give me notification while I’m logged out. Whenever I give a gift I have to be constantly checking the app to make sure I don’t make someone wait outside for 30 minutes. I’ve also had it log me out and not let me back in for an extended period of time.
If the issue of being logged out could be fixed, I would use this app more often. It’s just too inconvenient to be on it all the time to make sure it’s working.

App crashes every time I try to open it
I’ve been using the app for about a year now and it is horrendously glitchy. It’ll crash at random times, the messenger especially, and will crash if I try to open it from a notification banner. I updated my phone yesterday to iOS 17.4, and now it will not open whatsoever, crashing as soon as it tries to open. I want to like the app, but it is so unbelievably clunky overall that it makes using it not worth it, IMO.

Used to be much better
I’m one of those users who are baffled by the “global” posts. I don’t understand how it makes sense to give things away if shipping it across the country has to come into play. And I’m irritated that I have to specify “local only” every time I open the app. I’m also irritated that my “sharing radius” keeps resetting itself to 20 miles. I dutifully change it back to 3 miles, update and save, and…before I know it I’m seeing posts from distant suburbs. Rinse and repeat. The app could be so much better. It USED to be so much better.

buggy and slow app, so unfortunate as great idea
Please invest in this, core team -- get better servers or something... Such a promising idea with a good community, but the single worst user experience of any app I have ever used. Astonishingly bad; see the other reviews. Logs you out randomly, crashes, super laggy and unreliable messaging, messages that were marked as Seen get switched randomly back to Unseen, slowwwwwwww to load and render.
There's a ton of back and forth to do with people in negotiating item pickup. Messaging just cannot be this bad, for this to work.
If you're moving there can be 10 or 20 items going at once. each with multiple threads. It's just agonizing to use as it is.

App missed the mark
I love the idea of BN and used to be very active when they used the FB platform. I’m sure there were reasons for switching to an app, but it needs several improvements. The activity in my area is next to nothing and I’m sure the difficulty of using the app is a factor.
Does not default to “local”. the fact that “global” is an option for giving things away for free blows my mind, but if it’s gonna be there, don’t make it the default.
It’s difficult to differentiate between Give and Ask. This is a UX issue that should be easily to resolve with something as simple as a color change.
App always requires login.
It times out regularly.
App needs to be more heavily promoted. It’s worthless if there aren’t enough users to have an active community in your area.

Great idea, but app is frustrating
Love the Buy Nothing community initiative as I love knowing my stuff will be used by others. Since I’m not on Facebook, I hated missing out on Buy Nothing. That said, this app is incredibly frustrating - it hangs up or crashes, is ridiculously slow, often doesn’t notify you of messages, and the feels like the user experience is an afterthought (let me reshare vs doing a new post, for example). Also, it was great on FB to have people somewhat “screened” in terms of location which seems to be missing here.
I want more people to use this and join the BN commmunity, but the app is not helping.
