  • Just terrible

All I need this to do is connect to my grill, tell me current temperature, and let me change set point. This app is so full of extra junk that it takes 30-45 seconds to load and do its setup before I can even see if it’s going to connect to my grill. And then half the time it fails to connect. At least the SmokeIt app usually connected, was quick, and actually worked. Hopefully future versions will address these issues.

  • Improvement but still needs some work

Been using the SmokeIT app for about a year. This is a large visual improvement and the app runs pretty smooth on iPhone with no crashes, and connects to the legacy hardware easily.

There are some features adds that would make this app 5 stars.
The addition of temperature graphs for the grill and probe temps with the ability to save and export.
The ability to save cook templates that would preheat and set all the target temps.
The addition of an Apple Watch partner app would be helpful as well.

Thanks for producing a new app and look forward new features in the future👍

  • This New app is useless

Went to open my smokeit app and was notified to install this, so I did. Had to create a new account, no big deal. Went to add my smoker, it would connect Bluetooth but not wifi (yes using 2.4g). When I tried to connect to the smoker it would not. I Then loaded the app on my iPhone and it continually told me my account did not exist. Went back to my original device I installed the app on, logged out, tried logging back in and it told me it couldn’t find my account. Tried to reset my password and it told me too many attempts on the first try. Again, useless app now. Reverting to my inkbird so I can at least monitor temps.

I purchased my pit boss last year because of the ability to remotely monitor and control my device. Now it’s no better than most others out there.

  • New App Less Features

Disappointed in the app. I used the previous app for many years. While it was not the best in the world, it still gave me the ability to do many other things that this app doesn’t. This biggest downfall is the connectivity with the grill itself. No matter if it’s wifi or Bluetooth, I have to be standing at least 10 ft around the grill for it to connect. It completely defeats the purpose of being able to leave my house and continue to monitor the temps. While it looks a bit sleeker, the app seems to have taken a few steps back in feature usability.

  • One issue

App downloaded and updated the grill really fast with no problems! The app is user friendly and working great. Only problem is every time you pull up the app it cuts the Bluetooth music off, the smoke it app didn’t have this issue. Hope this can be resolved.
  • Nice looking.

Like the new app, but the update that came with it not some much. I used to be able to set the grill temp by 5 degree intervals. Now it’s set to 10 degree intervals with the only exception being 225 is preset. The push notification that popped up explained that they’ve been proving the grilling experience with this frame ware update . One would think that they would give more control not less. Being able to set the temp in 1 degree increments would’ve been an improvement. This is a step back ! And not to forget that there are no graphs anymore. Hopefully, like many things these days. This app and frame ware update is only a first or second step in a process of updating and now they are just waiting for the feedback before making any more changes.

  • New app is much better, but it killed the Alexa Integration!

I was excited to see an app update today from the SmokeIT to PitBoss App. Grill did a firmware update, I like the new app. Other than it forced me to make a new password (this is important later). Now Alexa tells me the grill is at 180 when it is smoking at 230, I do not believe it was connected at all. It had a very bad setup of telling me the last temp when it was powered off. So I think this is still reading the last value it read before the app and firmware were updated. I have disabled the skill and removed the grill and probes from the Alexa app. Then Enabled the app..... and the only password that will work to enable it is the original password.

This tells me that their old app used a different authentication method than what the new app is using. That is fine, but not if the Alexa skill is still pointing to the old user repository. 5 min of testing should have proven this and so I am left to think this was known and they pushed it out early knowing this was broken.

This was a MAIN reason I bought this grill, I wanted an app and the Alexa integration. I have 20 days to return the grill and will if this is not working by then. Not meant as a threat, just to point out it is important to me.

Happy to update this when the Alexa integration is back.

  • Good start, but missing key features from the previous Pit Boss app

This app is cleaner looking than the prior Smoke It app, but is lacking some of the important features. Please add the ability to turn the grill light and smoke setting on/off via the app. Please add the icons to see when the auger, igniter, and fan are running. And most importantly, please add the graphs back so that we can see progress of our cooks in a graphical manner.

  • Could have built more in to it…

I have been using a smart controller for a bit and the SMOKEIT app wasn’t great but it wasn’t like an app built for children. This app doesn’t have some features that I did like from the SMKIT(SMOKEIT) app like; See a graph of your cook with probes and grill temps, indicators at the bottom of the screen telling you what component in the grill is active, have notifications come when the grill/probe reach temp, manually key in a value for the probes, and a view of grill temp and probe temp with out having to select the grill! This pitboss app does like nice, does look pretty similar to the SMKIT app, but that isn’t a bad thing. I would like to say that my grill was pushed an update after connecting to the new app. Here are a list of features you can add to make this app hotter and heavier -Add the features that I outlined in my differences between the apps. -Notifications are check on in the app but I didn’t get anything when I up the temp -Add a widget to Home Screen for quick views at the temp of the grill and probe! -Add a countdown or estimated time of when the cook will come to temp (my ThermoPro wireless station does it) -bring back the graph! It’s extremely helpful to up and coming pit masters

  • It’s ok

I just got the notice trying to open the smoke it app. I set this one up and it works ok and everything works so far. But when I am away I am not sure if my grill actually shut off. Also I really liked the graph that showed the temperature of the grill as well as the probes and how the temp climbed throughout the cook.
