  • Terrible interface

Have a Louisiana Grills Legacy 800, great smoker, holds awesome temps. This app is junk! It fully connected once! Finds Bluetooth after 4 minutes and never connects with wi-fi. If I leave I just depend on the smoker & watch my time since I’m blind as to what the smoker is doing since it never connects. App deleted & reloaded many times & never finds wi-fi.

  • It shows the temperature, and that’s about it.

I have a LG Black Label 800 grill. I replaced the controller because it wouldn’t hold set temperatures. Once the new one was in, it wouldn’t connect to Bluetooth or WiFi. I called support and found they don’t support the previous app, SmokeIT, so I installed this one.

It required updating the grill firmware, which wouldn’t work unless I stood next to the grill. I did that and started testing. The smoker did heat to my set temperature of 200° and seems to maintain it.

I ran into trouble with the probes. There are two probe sockets labeled 1 and 2. Using socket (probe) 1, I could see the probe’s temperature but couldn’t enter a set point. It showed the temp but the notification temperature was zero. I then used socket 2 with the same probe, and I could set a desired temperature. Unfortunately, the app allowed the temperature to rise above the probe setting with no notifications or alerts. Both probe sockets simply showed temperatures rising above the set limit—if you are watching. The previous app both made an alert sound and displayed a notification above whatever screen was active when either probe came to temperature. So if I need to depend on the app to tell me when food is done, it won’t.

Finally, there are icons on the app screen that would seem to show smoker activity, such as when the auger, igniter or fan was active, but they don’t do anything. I expected the screen to light them since the icons are there, but they’re inactive.

Bottom line, this app lets you set cooking temperature and monitor meat temperatures, but it won’t alert you that you need to take action to avoid overcooking. There were cooking stages settings on the old app that this one is missing. The Bluetooth and WiFi connection is difficult. It’s mostly a manual cooker.

  • Won’t stay connected

I can be standing right next to my smoker and it can’t connect to Bluetooth. It worked for a couple hours and then just stopped. It use to work on the smoke it app but now it just dosent show up on that one anymore.
