  • Used to be great, now terrible

This used to be an extremely well designed, easy to use app. Timetables, routes, and tickets used to be clearly presented and easily accessible. Now everything is buried behind multiple layers of menus and requires you to sign in to your BVG account all the time to access your tickets (rather than staying signed in). Overall a hugely disappointing downgrade of an update.

  • The app got worse

1- The pathfinding algorithm got worse. Usually, I could put a normal house address in the start and the destination and the app would find the best path, including the section I’d have to go on foot to the bus and the connection to the S-Bahn. Now it just says “Unfortunately no connections were found.”

2- I lost my favorite addresses after the major update. I assume they were saved locally and the new app has a new structure so they can’t be recovered, but it would have been nice to have known beforehand, or add a way to save them in my BVG account when logged in.

3- The UI is… fine? It’s different and the usability seems similar. It’s maybe not as straightforward as it used to be.

Please, though, fix point number 1. It’s very annoying.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your feedback. Please simply set the maximum footpath length accordingly in the settings/filter here. At the time, the path was set to 500m, maximum length is 5km. The footpath has now been changed to 1.5 km. Sorry about your favorites, but this big change/update was necessary. Hopefully nr. 1 is now working again :-)
  • Can’t add payment method

The new version came with a new design and it is really bad. The “clean” approach makes hard to understand what is currently selected and what will be changed if I click something. Also it introduced a new bug in the planner. When I chose my favorite locations as the start location, it always change automatically to my current location. Only works if after the first search I edit the starting point.

Edit: new version is buggy and I can’t add credit card payment method. The app doesn’t even reach the point where it asks for the card number

  • Worse-than-useless redesign

What's the point? Why did BVG have to follow Deutsche Bahn's lead in designing their apps from scratch and verschlimmbessering the UX? It just doesn't make sense. Such a redesign adds no value, usually (as in this case) ends up taking away the basic functionality that made the app useful in the first place, and presumably cost far too much public money. Why?

  • Worse after 8.0.2 update

I have been using the app since years and the new UI is the worse user experience ever. UI design as well is bad. I am moving to google. Hope this feedback reaches the developers.
  • Easy to find public transportation information

Very easy to use and it shows accurate travel information. I suggest adding the stations building map to help visitors navigate to the PL and vendors areas.
  • Nice app, but …

Would be nice if the “wallet” worked without internet. Also, the count-down after you activate a ticket seems like a “gotcha” feature for people who wait to activate a ticket until a ticket checker announces their presence on a train.
  • Fantastic in so many ways

The little app will help you get around Berlin without the need of the language. The time calculated from and to a given location is perfect. You even can purchase the tickets via the app. I got a 2 day tourist ticket and I got around everywhere easily and quickly with impeccable timing. If you get the AB and C regions, you’ll even get to the airport. Cheap as well ticket wise. A must for any tourist (and likely new local) to have.

  • It works but not always…

It works but not always. Needs better live status of train or bus late or early times.

Also bit persnickety with addresses. Often it doesn’t like the addresses I get from Google Maps and I don’t know what to do to alter the format so it will accept them. Not a perfect app but it is the only official app for BVG.

It is bad at showing where the bus stops are when transferring between services or where the train entrances are. I have missed connections several times after following signs from the train up to the street but then no signs directing you to the bus stop!

It also needs a middle layer map for the walking around part you do from the street to the train, and from the train out to the street. I often miss connections because of the maze of tunnels and hallways you have to navigate blindly after you exit the train.
