Thanks for the iOS 11 Update

It's a great relief that Cleartune lives on. I thought I would lose it on upgrading to ios 11 and there aren't many good alternatives. I use it to give notes to singers, and it is easy to use but flexible. There are many settings for pitch, transposition and temperament and you can create presets of any of these. UPDATE - Minor problem: you can't delete presets as the app crashes if you try.

I would prefer to see five notes on the pitch pipe dial like before, not just three.

It can of course also be used to tune instruments.

Not thrilled with the update

I’m a musician who likes to put a tuner up on the stand and play through an entire piece of music to check for any intonation issues. With the newest update, if I’m not actively touching the screen, it dims and locks on me, which I find annoying. The only way around this is to change the settings on the phone to never lock, which I don’t want to do, so I’ve essentially stopped using this tuner and gone back to my old Korg. As I’ve used and loved this app for years, this is a huge disappointment.

Other than this issue (which is a huge one for me), the tuner is accurate and useful, but the pros aren’t enough to overcome the cons for me at this rate.

Excellent tuner, just two small things I would fix

This tuner is excellent. For the money, you won’t find a better tuner for your iPhone. It’s easy to use, accurate and customizable. It had a pitch pipe setting so you can easily listen to any reference tone you like.
That being said, I noticed two small differences from the older version versus the new iOS 11 version:
1. The green needle used to turn green when you were +/- 5 cents from the center of the pitch. Now it’s perpetually green. Please change it back to how it was.
2. The pitch pipe used to have a lock setting so that you could set it to any pitch and listen to what it sounds like in or out of tune. Please bring that lock setting back so the pitch pipe works exactly as it did before.

No big deal, just hoping the developers see this review and make those changes if they feel the need to. I hope they do.

What's happened to this tuner

I have used this app for a number of years and found it superb but suddenly it has changed for the worse. I tune pipe organs big and small and in very different locations and instruments old and new.
It used to be possible to take the pitch, register it, check sample intervals and then safely set the bearings. Now it's possible to get the pitch but not apply it. An example of a practical situation arose where all of the pipe work was removed for cleaning etc. The pitch pipe was c. What use was a tuner where it isn't possible to move from a? I am having to move to a different tuner which is a great pity.
My grading of the app now moves from 5 stars to 1 star

Unhappy with update

I bought this app years ago and have used it every day for tuning my students. The wheel is too big now and the graphics more cartoonish looking (more 2-dimensional if I’m correct in saying?). The tuning needle stays green all the time now. It used to turn green only when you had the correct pitch which was visually helpful for my students. A step backwards from the older version so very disappointed. I NEVER write reviews so this shows how very disappointed I am.

Not loving the update!

I rarely pay for apps, but I bought this one a couple of years ago and loved it. I am a music teacher and have referred many students to this app. However, the update has made it frustrating to use for several reasons. I like the smaller size of the old tuning "wheel". This larger size seems to be more "jumpy" and is distracting. It was also very helpful to have the needle stay yellow until the correct pitch was attained (now it just stays green making more difficult to see when that pitch is achieved).
I would have rated the app 5 stars with the old version. I will probably look for a new app to use and recommend.

Developer has finally updated with 64-bit support

This app has served me well for many years for viola tuning. It went about 4 years without an update, and I thought it might not ever receive a compatibility update for iOS 11. But now it's fixed and ready to continue working, hopefully for years to come. It works well and does the job. Recommended.

New update needs an update

I have been using this app without a hitch for the past 5 years to tune my orchestras and students and it has been wonderful until I updated it. The quality has dropped, the backlight keeps turning off and in turn, the app turns off and it doesn't seem to pick up the pitch as well as it did before.
Please fix these issues in the next update.

Bring back the old functionality and look

I want the unlock functionality back in the frequency generator. A useful feature when you are basically working in one temperament but want to tweak one note. The old pull down menu was also better to use and much easier to read, and the smaller pitch wheel was better when you want to quickly flip to a different note. I have the app on three devices and I have now made sure that two of them will not update so that I keep the older version.

Great for brass players

Love this app. Have been using for ages now. Great for instruments like brass which need transposition. So glad it’s back for IOS 11. Can delete the other app I was forced to use now.
