Not Small Time Writer Friendly Anymore
Wattpad basically got its start being for small time authors / fanfic authors. They’re now becoming a wannabe publishing company which I had no qualms with; However, they’ve taken it upon themselves to delete all direct messages and for what??
I’ve been writing on wattpad since I was 13 and I’m 22 now. I used to receive messages all the time about how my readers love my books and want me to publish them and they honestly gave me so much motivation. I loved being able to connect with my readers. But wattpad has now not only taken away direct messaging, but they deleted ALL old messages which is completely unfair. All that motivation is gone, years worth of it. I understand it may be because of big time writers recieving a plethora of DMs from readers but they should’ve just had a disable direct message option. To take away something like this that means a lot to a lot of writers is awful. They’re shunning the people who gave this app leverage in the first place and only supporting authors with millions of reads. Not to mention all the ads. It used to be advertised as ad free, which I understand needing ads. What makes me upset is that I have to watch ads ON MY OWN WORK. I can’t even transfer my work to a doc without going through 2 ads every chapter. I never write reviews but wattpad has not been doing their writers well (unless they have a contract with one 🙄). I only gave an extra star for nostalgia sake.

Scary Ads Aren’t Appropriate and Deleting Stories?!
New review: ever since March 2024, my gifs have been going too speedy despite being normal speed. I’ve had to edit my gifs to make them slow but the app has made them slower than a snail! And I’ve had no issue like this before so I’m really not impressed. 😠😤
Old review: Scary ads aren’t appropriate and deleting stories?!
I’ve been scared to a point of no sleep after seeing this ad involving swiping a door and the words “Michael Myers is tracking you from Cherrybrook NSW”. I find this ad too scary for anyone and quite inappropriate for a site that should benefit all age groups. Also, I do not appreciate deleting of stories. I had one which was deleted after I wrote for a chapter, and the app removed the story from my written works list. NOT HAPPY. Another thing, I noticed how it still says “Still syncing your works” even after the works have been synced, and it’s annoying me. Why on earth is there a error 131 if we don’t even know what the problem is? I thought it was internet closeness, but now I’m just getting really angry. I’m trying to work on writing as well as publish some finished chapters and it doesn’t help if my progress isn’t being saved because of a dumb error 131. And one more thing, I do not appreciate moving my stories WITHOUT my doing so, and it is annoying AS HELL! A concerned Wattpad user.

Excluding tags
I love this app but I have some suggestions/wishes and I really hope you’ll consider them. 1. I really wish there was a way to exclude certain tags when searching and make it so the search results exclude stories with those tags. For example, when reading fanfics there are certain pairings I don’t like but are popular for some people and a bunch show up in the search results even though I have no interest in them. Another example is when I’m searching for a specific type of story like an entertainment or transmigration setting and don’t want GL or BL and a bunch show up and it takes forever to scroll through them or when I am looking for a BL and a bunch of GL show up and vice versa. 2. I wish there wasn’t a limit to the reading lists you can make. 3. I wish there was a way to save or favorite other users reading lists. 4. I wish there was a way to save favorite tags(with no limit on how many you can save) and when a new story is published with that tag it shows up on your home page or you get a notification. And you would be able to choose what languages that have those tags show up. For example, I read Spanish and English so if there are new stories with the tags I favorite in either languages they would both show up. I really hope you’ll consider my suggestions.

Deleting good stories and authors
So upset with how wattpad has been deleting good stories and deleting author accounts lately, all because what they have written is too “explicit”. Are you serious wattpad?! Some books published but originated on wattpad are explicit and yet you allowed those books to flourish so don’t be deleting other peoples work! Authors spend hours writing stories that readers love and to have them just be deleted without a proper reason is despicable and really discouraging. They are marked mature and some authors give EXTRA warnings too so it’s not their fault minors or immature people choose to read them. How about you make it so those who are actually underage/minors can’t read the explicit/mature stuff instead of deleting the author or their work!

I’m having a problem
So for some reason I cannot sign up at all? When I try to sign up with google it says parameter missing. So then I try just to write my email in but it then says that my email is already registered, I then go into the logging page and type my email in and it says we couldn’t find an account with this email, next I go into forgot password and type my email in then it says email not found. This has happened so many times and I have tried to uninstall and install the app but it doesn’t work, I would like some help on this problem because it is very annoying. Also if it helps I have made a Wattpad account before.

One Bug...
Hello! I'm a very active user of Wattpad, using it just about every day and multiple times at that. It's just... There's been a bug that's been bothering me. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the ads. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't like the ads like anybody else. But there's something going on. The ad on the very bottom of your screen, it makes it so you do not have the ability to press on the full overview of the comments, or vote for a chapter. Also, the ads in between chapters have just disappeared completely. Another thing is that when I go to read a book, it jumps me to a chapter extremely far into the book, not where I was before, and it just wont stop. Lastly, when I go to respond or look at a comment that somebody has responded to in my notifications, it either brings me to a completely white screen that won't go away unless I close the app, or it will bring up the chapter of the book but won't allow me to look at any comments. This bug is making my Wattpad experience very unpleasant, and if you could perhaps take it into consideration to fix these, I know a few others who are having these problems that would definitely benefit as much I would. Thank you for your time!

New update is worse than ever.
I have been a loyal Wattpad user for a good decade now, and have loved every single function of it, the interaction you have with the readers and authors, the findings of books, the wide range of genres— it all worked smoothly, and it’s something that’s been treasured greatly. However, the new update is forcing me to move towards other apps to fulfil my reading desire.
I adored Wattpad, and loved how everything functioned. Was it a pain when they introduced ads? Yes, but you worked with it. Was it a pain when they added Paid Stories? Yes, but you learnt to work around it. However, this new update? When you can only have TWO stories offline? A confusing, non-cohesive home page? Ads being everywhere, including inside the book? An upscaled and unfitting library? It doesn’t work. It’s incredibly upsetting to witness an app that has been so well loved and cared for, go down this route where it now only cares about monetary profit and becoming a corporation, in this capitalism way. It’s not only me who feels this way.
Literally none of it works cohesively anymore nor does it make life for the reader easier. If Wattpad could, please change it to something similar to what it was before. I’m grossed out by the new non-functioning Wattpad. Would have recommended the ‘old’ Wattpad to anyone and everyone who would have listened. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend the new Wattpad to anyone.

Why are there ads at the bottom of the screen?
I’m only rating it so low because of the ads on the bottom of the screen… This company DOES NOT listen to the readers and it annoying. How hard is it to just listen to the people who are on the app everyday and supporting them! I’m sure you guys have already seen the dislike on having the ads at the bottom of the screen while people are reading. I had them for a while maybe a month or so ago and then they went away and I was happy that Wattpad took in the concerns of the readers seriously but they are back again… I’m sure myself including others would appreciate if Wattpad as a company would listen to the people who go on their app everyday. We do not like the ads at the bottom of the screen, it spoils reading and it’s annoying. Personally I’m fine ads being in between each chapter. But to have them at the bottom is so obnoxious. I really don’t want to leave this app because I’ve been using it for many years. But Wattpad as a company have problems listening to the consumers and their concerns and honestly that not very good if you want people to still use your app. All I’m asking is for Wattpad to consider listening to the readers and just stick to the ads after the chapters, I’m not the only one who hates this feature. Many have express the dislike of it on Twitter and I have not since Wattpad address the concerns and it’s disappointing. Please reconsider taking away the ads at the bottom of the screen, thank you.

Its great
I love being to read a large diversity of books each telling there own spin on some of my favourite topics. One thing I might request adding would be an update on filters, specifically, estimated reading times.
I usually like to take time with a story, and to have a story that I know will go for longer than average is really hard to find. I’ve only managed to find 5 books lasted me a month of reading. Each at an estimated 1 day and 5 hours of reading time.
I’d request that, similar to the page filter, going up to over 50 pages or more.
The people of Wattpad could implement a similar system based on the estimated reading times, going up to a day, or just over 20 hours. I know this will probably be unheard or an unpopular opinion, but just in case others have similar feelings I thought I may leave this request. Overall a great app for finding a story that’s best for you and sharing your own creative outlets.

No longer worth it
I’ve used Wattpad to read as well as publish my own stories for 7 years now and it was my most used app for five of them! It was amazing, I made friends in different fandoms and different communities, I got real feed back on my work and connected with authors who were just starting out- Wattpad was a safe haven for thousands of us.
I’ve barely touched the app in two years now. It started out with the adds, which was fine as these contribute to the writers and reward them if they’re books did well. The the coins thing started. Immediately I stopped reading any paid stories as with previous experience off other reading apps who do the same thing, you end up spending three times more on a book that you can’t even get a physical copy of that’s still written by amateur writers. You may as well save your money and buy professionally published books (either physical or Ereads).
You’re constantly harassed by adds and offers to sign up to ‘premium’ and the money grabbing is just constantly shoved down your throat with the disguise of being there to help authors with no proof that any of it goes to them, not to mention the amount of bugs that still happen which delete peoples work so how on earth does it benefit them.
This app is longer worth wasting the time with, whether it be reading or to publish your own stories.
