Limited functionality and boarding pass glitches
Additionally the app doesn’t have a lot of functionality, it opens i-frames for everything and takes you to mobile site. All other airlines have native app experiences (seat selection, standby, changes, etc). This is purely a flight status app that launches websites to complete any actual functions. Very disappointing.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you've encountered with our app, specifically the boarding pass issues you mentioned. We've received similar feedback from a few other customers, and while this issue is frustrating, it seems to be an issue affecting a limited number of customers. Our team is actively working to identify and rectify the problem. We'd like to mention that as of today, July 22, we have released version v5.35.1 of the app. We invite you to update to this latest version and check if the issue persists. Should you still face any problems, please reach out to us by email at digital@aircanada.ca with the subject "App Review from even-stephen-d-123 - Jul 20, 2023" or update your review. As a temporary workaround, you can choose to have your boarding pass delivered via text message during the check-in process. This text will contain a link to access the boarding pass online, where you also have the option to add it to Apple Wallet. In response to your feedback about the app's web-based features: The Air Canada app boasts numerous native features, including booking flights, checking flight status, and accessing the Aeroplan loyalty dashboard. Given the vast range of services offered by Air Canada and Aeroplan, it's challenging to natively integrate every single feature. However, rest assured, we release updates every 3-4 weeks, aiming to provide new features, resolve bugs, and enhance the overall user experience. We truly value your feedback and suggestions. If there's a specific web-based feature you'd like to see integrated natively within the app, we encourage you to let us know. Customer feedback predominantly drives our app's features and roadmap, so please share your thoughts with us. We're always keen to have discussions with our customers, and work towards providing the best experience possible. Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, and we look forward to improving your experience with the Air Canada app.
Airport Staff needs proper training
Absurd! Anyone who had applied Schengen Visa before knows that first country of entry of the Schengen area does not have to be the country that issues the Visa. Our Europe trip is ruined by just an Air Canada checkin counter supervisor at FLL who kept on refusing us to board, despite we had our European trip’s agency calling them to reaffirm the Schengen Visa travel rules.
If you are traveling to Europe and must have a Schengen Visa, stay away from Air Canada.
Underwhelming and underperforming
- flight time change was not notified and not updated in the AC app even within a day of flight, while Flighty updated and notified way ahead. How does the airline’s own app is behind for its own flight??!!
- after the tortuously slow check-in procedure (in its web site, not even within the app - what is the point of the app then?), it kept failing to add boarding pass to Apple Wallet, with repeated error messages.
- the app still didn’t show I was checked in even 2 hours after. Still trying to get the boarding pass as I am writing this review.
- after my flight cancellation notice was received, they booked me on a code-shared airliner but there was no update on that flight in the app. I had to scramble to find out the terminal and gate number frantically due to the short lay over. (Hoping Flighty will help with this kind of issue from now).
- did I say SLOW?

Terrible

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the difficulties you encountered while trying to create an Aeroplan account and retrieve your boarding passes. It’s great to have you as part of the Aeroplan program. However, we would like to clarify that creating an account wasn’t a necessary step for retrieving your booking, checking in, obtaining boarding passes, or traveling on our flights. Regarding the creation of your Aeroplan account, please note that this process is handled through the Aeroplan website and not directly within the app. We understand that this process should be smooth and seamless, so we are concerned that it took several attempts. We would like to understand what challenges you faced during the initial four attempts so that we can work on improving this aspect of the Aeroplan experience. In addition, we want to ensure that the issues you faced with retrieving your boarding pass are properly addressed. To investigate further, we require your booking reference number, and travel dates. There can be various reasons why the boarding pass was not available in the app, especially for international connections and with other airlines, which may require additional travel documentation, manual document verification or security checks. Please let us know by writing digital@aircanada.ca with the subject line “App Review from Computer novice - Jun 6, 2023”, providing details of your experience. Concerning our app reviews, we noticed that you are writing from the United States. Regional App Stores only display a subset of total global app reviews. This means the US App Store displays approximately 7,000 of our over 110,000 reviews. Another interesting phenomenon with app reviews is that many of our customers who are satisfied with the app, simply rate the app without a comment. By comparison, the few customers who experience issues prefer to write and share their experience or request help. As a result, there’s a higher number of reviews with comments that have lower star ratings. While no software is entirely without bugs, we are committed to continually improving our app. We release updates every 3-4 weeks that include new features, bug fixes, and enhancements. We value your feedback as it plays a crucial role in these improvements. Once again, thank you for reaching out. Your feedback helps us improve our app for your future travels.
