I downloaded the previous version a while ago and was just as frustrated as the others with the unreliability. In fact I never got it to work and gave up after a while.
I've just downloaded the updated versionand, joy of joy, It works now!

Edited review - picture and sound quality now much improved!
When I first tried this app back in early February I found it to be sadly unusable due to its very poor picture and, more importantly, sound quality.
I tried it again on the off-chance last week (I was about to delete it) and can now happily report that the picture and sound quality are now both much improved. This means the app allows you to watch the majority of NHK World programming when out and about - even via 3G.
I don't know what has changed over the last few weeks (I assume an improved source stream) but am now very happy with this app and suggest the developer might wish to release a token "v1.1" update to inform the numerous previously disappointed downloaders of this improvement.Show lessJose 36BZ
Has Potential
I have been wanting NHK World to make an app, so have been searching every time I visited the App store.
As you can imagine, I was very excited when there finally was an app!
There's a 1-2 minute delay between the live TV broadcast and the iPhone app's, but that is expected as it has to travel a bit more than the TV!
The one problem I have is the randomness in quality. Sometimes it is really high quality, and other times it's severely pixelated and has low audio quality.
Both on the same WiFi Internet connection. I close the app and relaunch it to have different qualities each time.
If they can fix this problem, this is a perfect app. :)Show lessAqeelAhmed
unwatchable over 3g, lovely on wifi
video quality over 3G is downscaled SO much the video becomes a BLUR, audio sounds like charlie brown's teacher WAWAWAWA. Over wifi, quality is GREAT! Shows are very decent and it's free. NHK, you MUST update this program so 3G quality is at least understandable.Top Canadian Reviewer
