Recent changes are a step back

While previously I have wholeheartedly recommended the app to all avid readers, recent updates have removed some key features that I use it for, specifically the ability to share reading challenge progress between friends.

This feature was a fun way to encourage each other to stay motivated with reading throughout the year and a great way to see each others progress. This has now been removed entirely from the app, making myself and many other readers in my circle disappointed.

It is especially disappointing when the screenshots provided within the App Store still include reference to this feature, which has now been removed.

Great resource!

I wouldn't read a book without consulting it on Goodreads first! I have never been mislead by ratings. Because of Goodreads, I have read genres and Authors I never would have tried without the recommendations of others who use this app.
My recommendation is to link books to all libraries. So many times I have read the first book of the series only to find there isn't the second. My library asks for recommendations including what format type is available too. I listen to many or most books. I go down my list of Want to Read’s and half don't exist at my library in audiobook format. My library is in Southwest Florida encompassing Ft Myers, and all the surrounding cities are the land of retired old people who do nothing but read, eat, and walk. It's one of the best libraries I know, another is Gwinnett County north of Atlanta. I pay for these cards because I don't live in either state anymore. I highly suggest both for all who are like me. Thanks, Goodreads, I tell all my friends and others I see reading if the opportunity arises. Karina

just another person begging for a UI update

I know it won’t happen, but seriously every day using Letterboxd and Goodreads side by side emphasises how terrible Goodreads is. the only reason I use it is because I’m forced to if I want to track books on a big enough platform. I want to make lists of books for fun and be able to add the same book to multiple lists. Tags could fill this purpose to an extent but they don’t even work. Rereading books is possible but not clear. I want to be able to see all the reviews I’ve liked in one place and for each book. Same with being able to save Goodreads/other people’s lists and come back to them. Goodreads has a large young audience who are accustomed to much better UIs, but even older users would surely benefit from some improvements. Just incorporate a guided tour of the update like everyone else. ffs PLEASE

Great app just a few things I wish were more user friendly

4.5/5 I love using Goodreads because it keeps me accountable ao I actually finish most of the books I start instead of just moving on to a new book I also love how organized it lets me be with my books so I know exactly which books I’ve read and which ones I have at home that I haven’t read yet however one problem I’ve run into is that I can’t put a book on a shelf that I’ve made without it being automatically put on my want to read list what’s even more frustrating is I can’t even take the book off of my want to read list without removing it from all my shelves. Another thing is I wish the suggestions were more personalized based off of the books I’ve read and want to read often I feels like good reads has some automatic books for each genre and suggests those All the time without ever changing it up or taking into account what I might actually enjoy. That’s all I have so all in all a great app just better for keeping track of your books rather than looking for recommendations.
(Added this next part in later) also I really wish there was a way to select multiple books to put on a shelf when I’m in for example my wtr shelf if there is multiple books that I want to have on a separate shelf then it would be so much easier to just be able to select them all at once. Thanks bye!

Good concept but too buggy

I’ve used this app for years and it’s always riddled with bugs. It’s totally fine in the browser, but the IOS app has frequent issues. Lately, anytime I move a book from “reading” to “want to read”, it also shows up under “recently read”. But only on the profile and on the “my books” summary pages. Once I click on the list of “recently read” books, the books I moved from “reading” to “to read”, vanish. I used to work in web development and I can imagine the sort of mistake that would produce a bug like this, and I’m surprised it’s hung around for so long. Tonight, I keep being told there’s an “error” and that I “do not have permission to view this content.” Other nights, the app crashes for reasons I cannot explain, but often when trying to load a book list or a user profile. I find all of this very annoying, as a user, and just plain sloppy, for such a widely used app! I will continue to use it because it’s a helpful tool for tracking books, which my scatterbrain requires, but I just really wish this app didn’t have all these bugs and glitches. Again, these issues don’t seem to be reproduced in the version rendered in a web browser, but I more often track books on my phone, in the app.

Unputdownable !!!!

Unputdownable! Nicole's writing truly shines in this captivating mix of memoir and interviews with other women. As a master storyteller, she skillfully intertwines her personal journey with the perspectives of other women who, like her, are not mothers. Being a non-mother myself, I found solace in Nicole's words and connected with the stories shared by other women. Many of the struggles she faces in a society that often marginalizes those without children resonated deeply with my own experiences. The unfair treatment and discrimination faced by childless women in the workplace, for example, is something I have personally encountered. Nicole approaches these topics with objectivity, compassion, and understanding. She seamlessly weaves in her own family dynamics, generational trauma, and societal pressures , taking us on an incredible journey of self-discovery alongside her . Through her book, she has created a safe space where we can feel heard and seen

Great App with a few glitches…

This is an amazing app. The annual reading challenges keep me accountable to keeping my reading habit on schedule, scanning the ISBN makes it easy to find books/ editions that I’m reading. And I love looking back to see my progress. I have noticed with the progress tracker, it doesn’t always register ny page updates. For example, I’m currently reading a book and am 52 pages in. When I go to update this book, the app wouldn’t change it from 33 pages, and the progress tracker is displaying my progress on this book as 0%. I kindly urge the developers to please bring their attention to this as if the feature either needs to work or be removed. I have also noticed a lag with other books I’ve read, but this has been particularly noticeable this time. Otherwise this app has very supportive features to support anyone building their reading habit.

Dancing with Dragons by Jenni Ogden

What a magical book full of hope and love. It’s got a fairy tale quality and yet at the same time is rooted in reality.

The characters are inspirational., especially the main character.

It is a book which I feel would appeal to all age groups and a book I would gladly read again.

One of Jenni’s qualities is the degree of research and observation she uses. This gives an authenticity which some writers lack. She has visited her locations and is familiar with marine life and her subject matters.

She always writes with a regard for nature and a deep insight into her characters and yet her books are all so different.

I can’t wait to read Jenni’s new book.

Missing words issue never resolved

Great for updating reading progress; receiving and reading notifications; and adding new books via the barcode scanner. If you like Goodreads you'll enjoy this app. The latest version makes everything even more intuitive and simple. All that said, there is one annoying aspect to using the app that has remained unresolved. Some words are not visible on the app. So some sentences contain missing words. The words are visible when viewed on a computer.

Update: 30 April 2024 -I have now deleted this app and just rely on the browser version as the missing words has got increasingly annoying. I have no idea why this issue has never been resolved. It often results in only seeing the start of posts with the rest of the post completely invisible on this app.
