It is so creative and you can make so many nice amazing pieces

Convert from Excel

Avoided learning Numbers for years as I was fairly expert in Excel, and couldnโ€™t imagine it would be as good. After I retired following 30 years in IT, where expertise in spreadsheets were required, I decided to see if I could just use an iPad instead of a PC. Found I only needed a PC for some things in Excel doing my Finances. Canโ€™t create pivot tables in iOS Excel was the main one. Then I tried Numbers. Blown away by the ease of use, and how easy it was to learn. Much better user experience than Excel, which I had loved up until trying Numbers. Cancelled my 365 subscription, and now just use Numbers. And no PC.

Numbers spreadsheets

Had this for a while now and although it is not Microsoft Excel itโ€™s ideal for basic stuff. You can do some complex calculations though but you need to do quite a bit of practice to get to know what you are doing. Iโ€™m not sure why the developers did I not look at Excel and add a lot of the Excel features.

It does get quite a bit of getting used to but once mastered this can be an ideal tool. Having said that it is easy to add Excel to your iCloud and work from what you know. You can the basic Excel for free if you donโ€™t want to take up the Microsoft subscription.

Numbers Program

Excellent program to use when dealing with numbers.

I donโ€™t even think about the other spreadsheet

Once I left work I decided to give the Apple Works apps a try out. Iโ€™d always used Mail and I found Pages very easy to change over to as it had everything I needed and nothing I didnโ€™t. Numbers took a bit longer to get used to but once I started using the formulas I found I could do everything and it was just simpler to work with. And then I found pivot tables (or they might have been added a bit later) I had everything I was used to and more. Nifty things like conditional highlighting and being able to transpose a whole selection of rows and columns. Unlike Excel, once I learned something I didnโ€™t have to go back and read how to do it again. Iโ€™m amazed how much I can even work on Numbers on my iPhone! Like everything else (well apart from Preview crashing) it just works and it feels intuitive now.

Excellent Spreadsheet for Apple Devices

I have used an Apple device (iPad) as my main computer for well over a decade. The applications that I use the most are Safari (browser), Files and Numbers (well, Pages, too). As a free application, Numbers is a fully functioned spreadsheet. I would consider myself a moderately sophisticated spreadsheet user yet I have not been limited by Numbers functionality. The in-built functions cover data, statistics, arithmetic and mathematical use, plus more. The ability to import and export data is really useful as well, enabling the user to perform analysis on data from external providers (banks, retailers, travel providers, etc.). As one who has used spreadsheets from back in the era of VisiCalc and Lotus 1-2-3, I can recommend Numbers to mobile spreadsheet users.

Full fledged spreedsheet app for iPad

Iโ€™ve been using excel in my career for a long time and Iโ€™m really impressed with this. OK it may not have the advance features of desktop excel, like macros, being able to scrape data from the web and other sources, but neither does the excel app. Same goes for google sheets, which is also excellent but limited on the iPadOS app. This has everything youโ€™d need for stuff like home budgetting, business accounting and most use. It also loads excel and google sheets exported xlsx files with no issues.

Numbers

I am new to this App so will only make a brief review at this early stage. The reason for downloading this App was to replace another App which is no longer supported and failed to open xls files after installing iOS 17.
After a few hours I found โ€˜Numbersโ€™ to be incredibly easy to use due to concise tools and controls. The help menu was very thorough and supported all my queries. Creating new and editing old imported spreadsheets was very straightforward.
I highly commend the App developers and strongly recommend this App for use on the iPhone.
Thanks

Feedback

Numbers keeps getting better and better with improved and enhanced functionality. This means very good spreadsheet software is bundled with apple products e.g. IPAD . There is no requirement to buy spreadsheet software from say Microsoft.

It is OK but far from ideal on iPhone

Using Numbers on a desktop device, whether through the native Numbers application or by way of the iCloud implementation is fine. It works reasonably well for what it is. However, on the iPhone, using the native Numbers app, it quickly turns into a frustrating experience; particularly for those being โ€œwell seasonedโ€ in age with regards to eyesight and finger dexterity challenges. ๐Ÿ˜

All of the features appear to be there, at least with the limited time I can tolerate using the app for last minute editing. The challenge is really trying to manipulate editing cells by zooming in far enough to accurately edit without losing so much of the surrounding data to keep the context in mind.

As a quick way to view Numbers files on the go, with maybe some light editing, the Numbers iOS app is OK. It gets the job done.
