  • Not worth the money

Very disappointed with this app. Its poorly made, the mnenomics they give are horrible. They don't even teach you anything about Douten, Handakuten, etc which is essential to learning Hiragana. They only give a chart which is BTW the way not easily accesible from the first screen. I want my money back. Seriously, there are better resources out there don't buy this app.

Hey Blien, sorry to hear you don´t dig the mnemonics but many, many people have found them to be very useful when beginnning their Japanese journey. Maybe the tone or the pop culture references don´t appeal to you? Keep in mind that the corniest and ¨infuriating¨ ones are the ones which people remember fastest. Cheers - Bob.
  • Amazing!!!

I was trying to find a really good app to learn Japanese but I couldn’t find it. Until now. Dr. Moku’s Hiragana has been so helpful that it made me wanna pay for the full version after the DEMO.

I also love the colorful atmosphere and the bright colors, it’s really helpful especially trying to remember it at the same time as something else. For example, if someone had a test to study for, you will still remember it.

The mnemonics use humor and relatable content to help you never forget. Mnemonics relate something else so you could remember the material.

Finally, I downloaded the other Katakana and Kanji apps because it was that good. Try the DEMO version before the full so you get a seek peek for yourself.

  • Works!

I had to learn Hiragana in a week for Japanese class. I was struggling until I found this app. It may not work for everyone, but got the job done for me.
  • Great service, great app

Had a issue, they replied back to my complaint very quickly and we managed to resolve the issue.

The app is also fantastic! It does everything you’d want it to do. 10/10 recommend buying.
  • Too Many ads!

To many Dr Moku ads on paid Version!
  • Cheesy and Wonderful

Like other reviewers have said, the reason this works so well is that the memory queues are so cheesy. This method works great, and the quizzes are good. I went from zero knowledge of Japanese language to being to read all hiragana in 24 hours. Definitely recommended.
  • Not worth money

First let me say that most of mnemonics rely very much on things out side the actual kana. Some are okay but most are hard to remember. Don’t get this.
  • Three cheers for Dr. Moku!

Great app for all Japanese enthusiasts! You will love it. I recommend this app for reading and Pimsleur learning programs for audio and speaking. What a fantastic duo. (Try your local library if you don't want to buy Pimsleur.)
I learnt all the hiragana and dakuten/yoon in 3 days! Thank you Dr. Moku!

    YES! Thank you so much
  • Excellent Way To Learn Hiragana

I was struggling with Hiragana; associating sounds with symbols that were relatively similar was hard.

With Dr. Moku, it was extremely easy. Just remember a simple joke or similarity to something in English and you're good! I learned basic Hiragana within one day!

Keep in mind, there are no mnemonics for Dakuten. Then again, Dakuten are relatively simple, so no big deal there.

  • Worth the price of the bundle but some options would help!

This app is a fantastic learning tool! It's really useful and I'm glad I bought the bundle. A lot of language learning tools are so expensive, and this is worth the $8 price for two apps. Dr. Moku's silly voice makes remembering the pneumonics easier, although some of them are sort of a stretch, it works. I also like how it has the option for vocals and it also lets you see the strokes for writing each character. The explanations in the how it works section is a helpful introduction and reference! I wish this app would allow you to choose which characters would be in the quiz (to add and remove from a quiz pool) and that if it was wrong, you had the option to see and hear the pneumonic again to reinforce it and see what's right. It can be confusing without that.
