Audio stops constantly

Since recently the audio stops even though it still shows up as playing. Stopping and restarting fixes it. But that’s not acceptable come on app developers you could do better. I am listening on tunein radio now which always works and you can pause as well. also could really do with some better user interface. E.g you have to click multiple times to get to the live stream. Shouldn’t that be one of the most important features? And then it puts you in full screen mode hiding crucial information like the time etc.. but only in listening mode. Why ?

Way too many repeating notifications

I keep getting 3-6 repeating notifications on news updates

Ad-free, notifications for major news only

Thanks for providing the best, authoritative news app in NZ. I have enabled notifications for breaking news and was initially concerned that I might get inundated, but you have struck the right balance with only sending notifications for major breaking news. Happy user! Love that it is ad-free.

Love it but one major bug

I use the RNZ app every day to create and download a playlist to accompany me in my daily life. Very sadly though, I can’t access the content I have downloaded when I’m out of cell range (ie walking in the wops or overseas). The app won’t let me open it saying ‘oops a problem (or somesuch) try again later’ !!! Why? I would’ve thought that’s the very time when you would be using downloaded content?

Kia ora, Sorry to hear you're having this problem. It may be due to a known limitation of the app: if you start playing an item online, it will continue to try to “play online” even after it has been download – so if you’re offline, it’ll keep trying to reach the server and will get an error. This happens unless the item is stopped (not paused), and then played again. Because our player uses play/pause rather than play/stop, the way to effectively “stop” an item playing is to play a different item. The desired item will then be “stopped” and will afterwards be playable offline. We have lodged this as an issue to improve in future developments of the app. If doing this doesn’t solve the problem, please email appproject@radionz.co.nz and we'll try to zero in on what the bug is.

Really useful

Great app - I use it all the time. Good for text articles, live radio, podcasts and on-demand clips from all the shows.

The ability to add items to a playlist and download locally is really good. Great to pull a bunch of short clips together from Morning Report, Nine to Noon or Checkpoint and download them before getting on a plane. By the time you land you’re all caught up on the news of the day.

Hmmm

This is a weird one. A really quite good news app, with a poor podcast-like “radio” app which feels like an afterthought.

Be better if they focussed on doing one thing.

Looks like it’s in active development, hopefully radio side, (especially the user journey) will get some love.

Nice App

Good app. Lots of choices to listen to what you want, from news bulletins to podcasts. It’s the quickest way to listen to RNZ live.

Load times are a bit long though.

Technical glitch

Love the app, we are unable to get RNZ on the radio where we live but enjoy being able to use the app to keep up with what is happening in NZ.

Just lately we have noticed that the playback will often jump back a few minutes from the current live stream and then after some time jump forward. This has only started happening in the last few weeks so am assuming it’s a buffering problem, but wondered if you were aware of it? FYI Our internet connection is fibre . Thanks for the great app.
