As a college student, I have to say I'm pretty impressed with IDrive. It has been a lifesaver for me when it comes to backing up all my important files. I've been using it on my iPhone 14 max pro, the new Motorola flip Razor, and even my iMac with no issues. Sure, the interface could use a little sprucing up, but for the price, it does exactly what I need it to do. Before getting IDrive, I had invested in a 6tb external storage device. Luckily, IDrive was able to back up all my files from that device because it's now unrecoverable. That alone makes me a happy customer. Plus, it's more budget-friendly compared to other backup services I've looked into. UPDATE January 2024: This app does not work well with iPadOS 17 nor with iOS 16. I am not renewing when the promo rate ends in February 2024.
ORIGINAL REVIEW in 2023: I’ve had iDrive for over a year (I have a 2 year promotional plan) and found it too primitive to use for the mobile devices, so I stopped using it for a year and hoped newer releases would help but I was wrong: The instructions are still not clear, There is no way to pause and resume the backup; It is unclear if it does a full or incremental backup after the first backup; It will not backup Calendar or Contacts on Apple devices; File backup is not available. I cannot understand why this product is highly rated by tech journals unless they mean the laptop and desktop backups because the mobile device backups do not have enough options and features. There is a lot of potential for greatness and plenty of opportunity for improvement if iDrive wants to be a contender in the mobile device backup business.Show lessMick Gator Fan
Backup of iOS is SLOW TEDIOUS PROCESS, GARBAGE PRODUCT
I bought additional storage on iDrive, although I have bought more storage than I could possibly use on iCloud. My reason for this is redundancy, and I am sick and tired of losing stored data when I backup, backup, and backup, and still lose data no matter how much redundancy I pay for. iDrive is a total pain, like when I tried to backup the 32,000 photos on my iPhone camera roll. First of all, I AM REQUIRED TO PUT A CHECK MARK ON ALL 32,000 photos, or they won’t backup: BUT MORE UNREASONABLE IS THEIR REQUIREMENT THAT I CAN’T USE ANY OTHER APPS OR ANSWER THE PHONE, THE BACKUP STOPS!!! THIS IS A GARBAGE PRODUCT!!!! THERE IS NO 10 HOUR BLOCK OF ANY DAY I CAN DEVOTE TO DATA BACKUP SO I CAN TOUCH NO OTHER APPS ON MY PHONE!! God, I want so much to love iOS, and the limitations on the platform are maddening. It is an operating system for light users. PERIOD!!Show lesstekknokat
Confusing and Cumbersome App
First off, the front screen displays a continuous updated number. Just below that it says photos and videos not protected. There’s no indication whether this message means all photos and videos aren’t protected or the updated number? Which is it? Second confusing thing: I press the backup button, select photos, it backs up some arbitrary number and finishes. Then I do the same for videos, which also backs up some arbitrary number. Then back to the front screen and the number just goes back up to some arbitrary number. So there’s no way to tell when the backup is fully completed. I have been trying to back up a combined 11k photos and videos on my iphone for nearly two weeks, and it is apparently still not finished. I’ve had this app running non- stop for almost two weeks and it apparently never finishes the backup. Third, if you want to delete a backup photo it prompts you to enter a password each time. Bad reviews were right
I always take the bad reviews with a grain of salt.. but oh no they were very right. I’m so glad I tested this out before splurging. The app is absolutely bare bones. If you want to select which pics to back up you have to tap each one individually. Then, if you navigate away from the screen (not closing the app just navigate to the home of the app) the pics will stop uploading. And then at the Home Screen there’s a constant counter going off that is counting your images to tell you how many aren’t backed up. And it restarts every time you navigate through the Home Screen. I was frustrated in 5 minutes so I deleted my account. Nope nope… what a bummer. I’m going to have the vet the sources that recommended this app because I don’t think they actually tried it themselves :/Show lessdisco_tech
Great service
Affordable, fast, simple. Love it. Used them for years. Now I’m backing up my phone with it too.
To iDrive - the two things that would be super helpful: 1) video uploads… show the file size in addition to the file name. Also, show the date.
And 2) I can’t tell from the thumbnail what video it is currently uploading, so clicking on the video and being able to play it back would be super helpful.Show lessMkeIdolFan
Good app and service, but could be great.
I do recommend this app for peace of mind. They are also a good solution for backing up computers and externals. But, this app in particular is missing a buffer in the timeline to quickly preview photos and videos. Even in Wifi, it takes waaaaay too long to load from the cloud. It could be a 5 star solution if they add smaller versions to the timeline, so phone users can rely on it being a quick media management, which would allow me to delete local files to always free up mobile space without the worry to QUICKLY access them later. I didn’t see my backups…until I waited
It seems when I make a new backup of large amount of data, the backed up filenames show up after the app is open for as bit. I think it has to get the list of files from their super secure server or something. Anyway, this scared me a few days ago because I thought we had backed up everything, but clicking the user folder on the desktop app only selected the folders that the PC thought were where we stored our files. I went through and manually checked all the folders and now I can see everything I wanted backed up. Thanks IDrive!Show lessColliding.cookies
