  • Used to work great but....

    Now freezes and completely unresponsive
  • What a waste

Not terribly versatile or sophisticated -- basically a spreadsheet with simple assumptions.
  • This is a great retirement planning tool

I love having every bit of my investments in one place
  • So good I am buying extra scenarios just to pay the author.

This app is excellent, and by far the best of it's type that I have come across. I have in fact used it to help me calculate out my savings and retirement income such that I cemented the confidence to retire 15 years early!

Recent updates have added the ability to really stress some of the scenarios, like adding in a market crash and then vary rates of return as the market recovers, i.e. Just how the market works.

As I say in my title, I have found this app so invaluable that I am going to buy some extra scenarios, not because I need them, but to reward the author with some income from the otherwise free app. £1.49 well spent!

One development I would really like to see, if the author reads this, is to separate out savings and investments, so I could apply two different rates of return, and split my portfolio between these two. Until now I have had to assume things like a 4% market return, to take the average of savings v investments, and to input a 15% or 20% market crash when I really want to put 30 or 40%.

  • Brilliant!

Comprehensive, detailed, incredibly easy to use. The output is clear, compelling (watch your balances grow and shrink over time pre- and post-retirement, sometimes dramatically with small changes in inputs/assumptions), and presented in a variety of formats (dynamic bar chart and detailed table with input and output values for each year of remaining lifetime). The model not only shows the accumulation of savings and earnings on both tax shelterd investments and taxable returns--net any withdrawals post-retirement (and after social security is retirement income is factored in), it also takes into account required IRA distributions after age 70 1/2. You can play with inputs/assumptions and immediately see the results, and you can save different scenarios for future reference. You can include non-recurring expenditures and life events. Oh yes, and you can email results.

This is a full featured and very powerful app--way more than adequate for probably 95% of the population and useful at any age. It's more user-friendly and much more reasonably priced than anything else that I've encountered. The developer is responsive and keeps the app current with updates as needed (and even answers stupid questions with good humor and grace).

  • Fantastic App

Just purchased app and thrilled with it. Well thought out, user friendly, seems to be bomb-proof. This app deserves the highest rating. By the way, this is the first time ever that I have rated or commented on an app.
  • Excellent support

Responded to my new user queries within an hour. Brilliant.
  • Great App - Very Thorough

First things first, if you are looking for an app that takes into account as many variables as possible for retirement, this is the app! People interested in this app have probable used many other retirement calculators. However, it seems that other calculators each have a shortfall. For example, some won’t let you set the yearly increase in your savings rate (it might be fixed to inflation), while others simply don’t let you adjust other variables, such as retirement income, or rate of return. This app will let you do all of this and then some, as you can account for major purchases, pension income, college expenses, inheritances, one-time expenses and more.

Honestly, the only possible recommendation to improve the app is to include a way to include a standard deviation on the return. While it’s okay to assume an average rate of return, the truth is that the return will vary significantly from year to year. Therefore, it would be nice to be able to say, for example, an average rate of return of 6% with a standard deviation of 10%, This would be similar to Monte Carlo simulations that can be done on some retirement calculator websites.
