Still Broken
A new version dropped today. Will it fix any of the numerous problems the app has? No. Still can't access any of the top line menu items. Why? Because it displays with Time of Use overlaid on top of it. The developers don't know what "size" means in app development. You also can't manually resize because that is not supported. The comments contain dozens of useful requests for features that would make the app valuable but none of them ever appear. I need several additional new water heaters but AO Smith is definitely off my list.

Not Ready To Use
I downloaded this app and installed it. When opened it froze and would not do anything. After trying every trick I could think of to get some action (no success) I deleted it and re-downloaded. It then finally displayed the login page! I entered my credentials and it froze again. So there doesn’t seem to be any way to actually use the app. I’ve tried it on iPhone, iPad, and M1 Mac. Same results everywhere. I did see it running on another person’s iPhone about a week ago. they were not able to do anything because the app displays in static size (you can’t scroll or resize) and most of the controls are off-screen. I’m not sure why AO Smith is wasting people’s time like this.

Hot water percentage and color reversed
The recent updates to improve the display of remaining hot water has reversed the hot and cold water. When the tank is full of hot water the app shows 10% red. As hot water is used the percentage of red increases and more red bars are displayed. As more water is heated the blue bars up top increase and percentage of hot water goes back down to 10%. This is obviously backwards. Hot bars should be up top like hot water in the tank and remaining hot water percentage should decrease as water is used.

App frequently resets
I have used this app since installing a new hybrid unit last year. Had trouble setting up the unit then the app has lost my unit at least three times this year. The scheduling feature on this app is very limited in it’s ability to control water heater temperature. I have endured numerous cold showers even though scheduled to have the hot water topped off at shower time.
Please improve this app for setup stability and scheduling.

App designers need a cognitive evaluation
I have come across a variety of questionable graphic interfaces over the years on a host of computing platforms / operating systems. Nothing has come close to the absurdity of the status indicator that shows the status of the heater. Whoever designed the representation of a hot water heater that exists on planet earth where red means hot, blue means cold, gravity pulls things downward, and a higher percentage indicates “more full” not “more empty” in all honesty (and I work in healthcare) needs a real cognitive evaluation. The status indicator is literally backwards in every possible aspect. It makes me truly wonder if the updated design of the app is a psychological experiment. I am fascinated that a human being employed as a programmer/app designer could possibly have created it. Did a rogue AI create this? I am dumbfounded. Please explain.

Available Hot Water Wrong
Despite the recent update to fix the colors, the graph for hot water on this is still completely backwards. It’s currently increasing the percentage it claims is hot water as people take showers and use it up. I just watched it go all the way from 20% to 50% while 2 people took showers.
The graph should have the hot on top, cold on the bottom to match how it actually is in the tank, and the percentage needs to be inverted, the number is showing percentage of cold water not hot.

Poor results
In line with most other reviews, this app is quite disappointing . Numerous attempts to connect to WiFi failed. Called the support number numerous times and finally got it connected, but got a message that they were missing important data from the water heater. Another call revealed the AOS is aware of this problem and working on fixing it with no expected resolution date. Hard to believe a well known company with a long history of quality products cannot figure out how to fix, what looks like, a very simple app.

No longer works correctly since last update
No longer functions on ipad at all since last update, on iphone the app works, but doesn’t show correct avail hot water, it shows empty-10%-20% only since last update. Also all the time its losing the water heater period and i have to setup the whole thing again. All the time they’re having server issues “the team is working on” too.
I’d basically suggest they actually fix the app or delete it altogether. No control is better than the constant frustrating illusion of control i have now.

Zero Stars for Water Heater and App
If I could give it zero stars I would. The app is junk and the latest update I cannot tell if the blue is what’s been used or what’s left.
The water heater doesn’t even last through 2 showers (8 minutes each). I’ve set it to keep water heater topped off during our evening shower time and still doesn’t last for 2 showers. Forget running dishwasher in the evenings unless we want them washed with cold water. Do not recommend this heat pump water heater.

App is better than expected
After reading all the negative articles I reviews, I was hesitant to give it a try. But I decided to install it since it seems to be the only way to get our water heater to turn on and off automatically based on our TOU (time of use) electricity rates. That aspect of the app works just fine. Since I don’t need any other of the app’s features, I’m quite happy with it overall. It was a bit tricky to install, because there are a few spurious error messages, mostly I just ignored them, and it still worked ok. So if you are on a TOU plan, give it a try. Pay close attention to each screen during the installation and registration of the app, and I think it will work.
